I am grateful for your teaching. My learning to sew in 4-H was many years ago, and I was a poor student! Why do RTW garments so frequently NOT have facings?

Sha' Cole just so you know...Yes, you can definitely staystitch the curve first for stability and to prevent stretching. I likely did that on the neckline, but with the facing, it's been stabilized with interfacing so you should have to do that...but you can if you want to.
Question. I’m using cotton fabric to create a pajama top. I’m putting in the facing around the neckline. I’ve followed the directions in this video but at the end, after sewing the under stitch and pressing again it doesn’t want to completely lay flat. I feel that when it’s washed the facing will curl up and I’ll have to iron every time I wear it. Any suggestions? Could it be because I didn’t put the facing in before I sewed the bodice and sleeves? I’m using a regular Brother sewing machine. The last resort is to see it down all the way around to the bodice so it won’t curl up. Thank you! I love your videos.
Suzanne Salzman - If it doesn't lay flat now, it most likely won't after being washed. My solution is exactly the same as yours - sew it down following the curve of the facing and call it 'good'. Some fabrics just don't want to lay flat on the inside and stitching it down is about the only solution I know of except for bonding the facing to the outer fabric and we typically don't do that.
You are a great teacher. Thank you.

Very helpful.....I love it. Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial. I never could at it right.
Very informative videos but it's not necessary to stay stitch it first so the curve won't be distorted or stretch?
