Why This Poorly-Designed House is Driving Everyone Crazy

A North Carolina home may be the most poorly designed house in America. The driveway leads right up to the window. The garage is on the other side of the house. To park your car in the garage, you'd have to drive over the curb and then over your own lawn. The photo, first posted on Reddit, is now blowing up the Internet. Real estate agent Josh Flagg, from "Million Dollar Listing" said, "Nobody would ever build a home that way. It makes no sense. There's got to be a reason." #InsideEdition
Poorly designed home? No just a poorly designed driveway.
Totally had the same thought! I was thinking oh boy bad kitchen dining room or bedroom layouts inside that made it uncomfortable
think it was done on purpose, someone would have caught it before it got finished but all that needed to be done was add another driveway, my guess is they didn't want the garage for their car but other uses r the other driveway just wasn't paved yet
It was done on purpose. It’s being used as a model home. Model homes usually don’t have driveways. Once the model home served its purpose, a driveway will be paved to the new homeowner.
Exactly!
Exactly. When that idiot real estate guy said he'd tear it down I immediately thought, "Or.... you could tear out the driveway and lay a new one which actually leads to the garage rather than blowing hundreds of thousands of dollars..."
The house does not need to be torn down lol. The landscape and cement needs to be re done.
Or change the garage doors. Its probably cheaper than re doing the whole concrete job
@@xtscarfacem8255 definitely not cheaper. Switching the garage door and windows would be around 15 grande. Pulling out concrete, adding more back, and little landscaping... maybe 7 to 8 grande
I know right what dumb logic, let’s go with the cheaper option lol
Right that’s dumb he’s overreacting
No the garage is fake. Why would you put two house windows on the side of the garage? You wouldn’t
"Tear it down"? This man has the same degree of intelligence as the builders.
lmaooo
You don’t need credentials to work in real estate
right like woah buddy how about we just re pave the driveway in the right spot🤣
Agree 👍🏼
I could live there with no problem.
And I'm thinking it's going to sell really cheap!
@@r.j.whitaker You don't need to place a car there. Just use it as storage like the rest of us!
I would just repave a way from the garage to street and keep what’s already been paved. It’s really nice to have that extra “driveway” for guests, so they don’t have to park on the street
Great idea
Exaaaactly!! Thank you!!
Yeah I can’t believe that guys said tear the whole house down! Wtf
Exactly what I was thinking. So much easier to tear out the sidewalk than to rebuild the entire house.
yeah. The real estate agent said tear it down.
Guy: I would tear it down
Me: really? I’d prob just re pave it

Chris Nevarez I’m not a builder but I’m certain it’ll be much cheaper to re pave then to tear it down and start from scratch

Seriously dude? Tear down an entire house, when there’s nothing actually wrong with the house itself? 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🙅🏽♀️

@@eden20111 People clearly do. Clearly a very successful man.
Literally all you have to do is pour concrete in the front of the garage. It’s not that difficult of a fix
It will cost extra money and probably isn’t cheap
@@coffeelink943 yeah it's prob cheaper to tear it down and start over
@@cornyt5214 it cheaper to tear and entire house down? You literally have to build a whole new house which is gonna cost money PLUSS the fee it costs to knock the house down. All they gotta do is go to Lowe’s and buy a jug or two of concrete and let it be that. That’s much cheaper

Instead, a concrete pad that provides easy access to the home for potential buyers and realtors is used. They've clearly never seen a model home....
@@shashind.9591 Thank you for this break down. 💖 Be Blessed💖
Why tear it down instead of repave? Don’t buy a house from that guy.
I thought the same thing! How can he be so ridiculous🙄 I mean, really? He can't be that stupid. Such snobbery on his part.
He probably owns a demolition company
Right? Cost about another 10-15k pave addition drive way. Gonna cost you 50 k knock it down and another 2-300 k to build for something you can fix for 10-15 k. What a bozo
Kyle Collectors you can put more concrete and pull a circular drive in. If worse comes to worse I’m gonna park outside and convert that garage to a room and cover that garage door and build a carport to park under on the original side
Island Hopper TV he’s a millionaire most likely. That house is most likely chump-change to him.

You guys got a home?!
@I Wetted Myself Uwu you guys have a house?
I love how they have an "expert" for everything, even a toddler could tell you the driveway is the problem and not the house.
And a toddler would know that this is an easy mistake to fix that wouldn't require an entire house being torn down to correct. For all we know this may be a model home or sales office. In that case, a small lot to the side of the house makes a lot more sense than a driveway.
Here in California a house like that wouldn't stay on the market for more than couple days, everyone would want to buy it. I personally would want to buy it.

Was waiting for someone to point this out, developments I my area don't have driveways to the garage, it's just yard
Izak Pratt I thought so too. (Ex Realtor) But for the public who doesn’t know this, it’s a poor representation.
I've been in the New Construction/Builders industry for many years, could easily tell it was a model.
Cant believe this made the news.

Lol 😂
😂💀
Is nothing wrong with the house they can give it to me free I'll be glad to take that bed through the house if only the way they did to drive that's all
exactly 😂
It looks like a model for a subdivision. The garage is probably a sales office.
I would buy it. It’s a nice house why would you literally tear it down you can just pave some more right in front of the garage. Probably one of those model homes anyway just for people to look at
That’s exactly what it is lol.
Lmao, just edit the house and rotate it facing the driveway, like Simcity.
😂😂😂😂.
🤣🤣🤣
Magnus Maximus. That’s funny. If it was me I would bulldoze and start over 😂
Lol 😂😂😂😂😆😅😅
It's far too expensive to rotate the house. The most affordable solution is to repave, or simply just add more cement in front of the driveway.
Why don't they just redo the drive way
they can't
Boudi M. Y
Why not?
because it would probably cost a lot of money and if they dig out the cement they'd ruin the land scape
Boudi M. What landscape?
I’m pretty sure that is a model home with is used for the contraction company’s office. They use the driveway as a parking lot.
There is no need to tear down the house. It’s probably a model home. All they have to do is pour concrete on the drive way.
Tear it down ? Umm no just change the driveway
Cheaper right?
they tear it down already
Maybe he's one of those guys that uses the garage for storage, or a workshop, and parks his truck on the drive.
Ashley Miller Great point!
Pollock Builder
Jugg Season Maybe his workshop needs electricity and light.
where's the drive?
lol, no.
I've seen many many much worse design flaws than this! Just put another driveway and front directly into the garage, now on the right side you got space for a trailer, RV, basketball goal, etc. Depending on the engineering and which areas or load bearing you could at a garage door(s) to the right side. Not sure who's dumber the person who allowed that to be built this way or the guy that said he would tear the whole house down because of it? Regardless, I have no idea how this made it onto inside edition?! ...Must have been a slow day!
Ive seen this done enough This clearly a model home for the new community. They put the drive way on the side because there was more room for parking then if the driveway went directly to the garage....(Hence the sidewalk leading to the door.) As the model house is usually one of the last to sell in a new community, I'm positive the builder pulled the concrete and laid a proper driveway, path to front door and landscaping before owners moved in...Not really a big deal, def did not need to be "torn down" SMDH!!!!
“It was posted without a location but We tracked the house down” that’s a little creepy inside edition lol

Bree Dayzz lol name underestimate the power of stupid... like the guy saying tear it down... I guess it wasn't engineered for the front door to face a different direction???
Even the YT community have more sense with that "Million Dollars" real estate agent! I bet kids can figure it out how to solve the problem within seconds.
Why would tear the house down? Just build a new driveway. What the hell?
Appears to be a model home with parking on the side for customers, realtors etc...They may pave the driveway once the community is complete and the property is sold.
Traci Jehan Watley right!!!!!!!
Someone with some sense! Thank you.
EXACTLY
Now that makes sense!
This is a joke...not news here...its a model home....there is a lots of them make the same way.
Wtf? Just park your car on the driveway and use the garage for extra storage.
thats what I thought
that was what i thought
true yoj could use the garage as storage and use the drive way as a parking your car :P
The only issue with that is what does the person do where there is a hailstorm happening??
You build another garage or a portico over the driveway. Easy peasy!
Tear it down? Come on! That’s nonsense! Fill in the gaps with more concrete in front of the garage and towards the curb, make the driveway larger and wider and you can easily park your car.
It’s a perfectly fine house LOL, Not everyone uses a garage like one, some build man caves or workshops in them haha .
The drive way is poured last. The driveway is poorly designed, not the house.
It's a model home so it's an office and will never be a house and the driveway acts as a parking lot for potential buyers.
The driveway is a temporary parking lot for the model home. The guy is an idiot and fooled a bunch of people with this video.
But what if its not a garage i really dont think its a garage
Have you guys spotted the real flaw Ya it’s not the home like the video says like idiots It’s just the driveway that’s wrong not home & all they need to do is add a bit more concrete to the garage door side
Lol
Exactly.
Robert Young you do realize that either way they have to drive through their own yard, right?
Robert Young no one lives there yet genius it’s the builders mistake
Omg yeeeeeaaasss
“We need to tear down the house and make this a complex quadratic equation”
Literally just redo the driveway..
I agree that something needs to be reworked. They could just put another garage door facing the driveway, then you can have a big open breezeway.
easy fix, just fill out all that dirt with cement up to the garage.. now you have a massive driveway, with a lot of room for guests
Does it matter? Why would you tear it down just redo the stupid driveway.
yes or like breakdown the wall an put the garage on the other side

+Crammit true and use the other for visitors.
i know right! such a waste of materials..
Or take out the others and place them in the right place
After studying architecture for 2 years this makes me laugh knowing that someone probably took 8-10 hours designing this and realizing it in the end what he did wrong
or could be the door was to be on that side but they had chnges
Actually ...it could be that the owner does not intend to use the garage to park their car. It could be later turned into a room like a lot of other home owners have done. I personally don't like a garage in the front of a house. I like to old style houses of a garage in the back (alley way) looking at new houses where all you see is garage is ugly.
if no one wants it ill take it
Right...
Me too
I'll even pay $5 for it
This is a model home. The concrete to the right is a small parking area. Model homes never include a driveway.
Builders do this to showcase a home layout and the available options. The garage area is actually an office.
When the neighborhood development is done being built, a driveway will be poured and the office will be converted back to a garage and sold.
Jason Robinson Yeah but model homes usually don’t have any driveway or garage doors.
NickTubeFans The ones around here do, so that once the neighborhood is sold out the model has the office removed from the garage and it is returned to normal to sell.
I agree, I see many model homes with shrubbery in front of the garage which is used as an office. Inside Edition must be really out of stories to tell.
Jason Robinson that could make sense I guess. But where I am from, the model home looks exactly the regular homes. I mean, what is the point creating a driveway only to bust it up and pave a new one? Seems like a waste of money to me.
C Ewe so more people could park there..
There's an old saying my grandma used to say:
'Why just pave a new driveway, when you can tear down the entire house.'
If u literally fill in the blank spots with cement you can have a like a 2 entry drive way Nd so much outside parking space
There's no reason to tear down the whole home.....
LickingBugattis I know right all they have to do is break the concrete and connected to the garage
Give it to a family who can't afford their own home...you would be surprised how many less fortunate people would not even care about that design flaw and would appreciate the house.
It's really not a flaw at all and would not reduce the value of the house itself.
No government just "gives" a house away without asking for property taxes. They would forclose the house and accept the house is flawed before that ever happened.
Lol how would they select this family?
Seriously?
They would have had to have been a Hillary Clinton voter.
The house is 100% fine. Just pave the driveway in front of the garage.
Everyone is blamming the builder but on new houses the home owner makes the call on where they want a driveway
You don't have to tear it down? Just tear up the driveway and re-pave it?
Relocate the garage door.
Did you mean "use the _garage_ as an extra room"?

Why make a big deal out of nothing, he said "I will tear it down", but all they have to do, is fix up the yard because it have enough space, to build a new driveway.
Tearing it down seems like it would be a hell of a lot more work than just simply slapping some more concrete on the ground. This really is not that big of a deal 🤷🏻♂️
Not everyone uses the garage to park their car. I use my garage mainly for storage. I keep my car in the drive way. The way this house is set up would not bother me.
Paul Davis I can’t even remember the last time I parked in the garage.
Paul Davis exactly to be honest I like this design more because since the pavement is not in front of the garage there is allot of parking space on the pavement by the windows
i hate when garages r used 4 parccin
any reason why u dont park ur car inside it
A national builder, DH Horton, among other builders typically make model homes in a new community like this. The garage acts as an office for the sales force, and they quickly convert it to a real garage when the community becomes full and then sell the model.
That's a good answer!
Exactly
Yeah, i use to drive by the house almost daily and always wondered what they were doing. I was expecting the rest to be filled in, but it seemed like it never did. Crazy to see how I recognized an in instead.
Tear it down? Thats a bit much just fix the driveway
It's a model home. Nothing to see here. When they finally sell it after the neighborhood is occupied they will fix it.
"I'd tear it down" what a dummy. Easy fix
Tear it down?? Not build a paved pathway?? And hey, you can convert that garage into an extra room if you want.

Looks like a sales office for a new community. Parking on the right with a walkway to the front door. And after they finish selling all the homes, they'll tear up the parking lot and add a driveway to the garage. A local real estate agent would have known this.
nailed it!
Damn I like your thinking
Exactly. I cant believe this made it to Inside Edition! LMAO!
No. I understand what you're saying -- I've seen such sales offices too -- but no, that's not the case here. The driveway is flat and level -- exactly what you want, and what you'd expect, in a driveway. The garage door, on the other hand, opens out to a short and fairly steep hill -- definitely *_not_* appropriate for a driveway. Clearly the driveway is in the right place, but the garage door isn't.

A model home? The current drive is for parking and will be torn up later.
Yes it is likely. The model in the subdivision where I got my home from builder “KB Home” did the exact same thing. Once the subdivision was complete they simply paved a driveway from the curb to the garage door and then sold the house.
