- This tutorial shows how to start using Mathematica to solve engineering and scientific problems. We show how Mathematica can be used to generate a rich document that includes both text and code. Some of the topics we cover in this video include:
-Simple calculations
-Cells
-Typesetting
-Palettes
-Using build-in functions
Other videos in this series:
-Getting Started with Mathematica (this video)
-Working with Matrices in Mathematica ( • Working with Matrices ... )
-2D Plotting in Mathematica ( • 2D Plotting in Mathema... )
-3D Plotting in Mathematica ( • 3D Plotting in Mathema... )
We use Mathematica 11.2 but the concepts should be applicable to any modern version of Mathematica.

Sir , can you please post the video of mathematica regarding Algebra and Calculus. It will be a great help for those whose exams are approaching including me😅
Thankyou.
Thank you so much! Waiting for more videos like this
@Soren Langston Yup, have been using flixzone for years myself =)
Thank you so much professor for sharing your videos with us! They're really helping me with my comp math assignments. I was close to giving up on the course before :D
The approach of starting from the absolute beginning is super helpful for people like me who have never used Mathematica before.
I already know more about Mathematica than I "tried" to learn by myself in undergrad! Very helpful.
Can't believe I didn't use mathematica during my undergraduate degree, would have made a real difference during my thermodynamics class! I also love how clean everything looks when using the Section and Subsection type settings.
I have never used Mathematica before. This is a great introduction.
Thank you, the best introductory material about Mathematica on UA-cam
Thank you for the helpful reintroduction to Mathematica, Dr. Lum! It's been longer than I like to think about...
Excellent video, straight to the point with many useful highlights.
This is my first time using Mathematica, its ability to solve symbolic equation is amazing, and creates a nice looking document at the end. I could use this at Boeing to create strength check notes!
That's exactly what I was looking for! Nice introduction, watching the playlist for sure.
Never used Mathematica before, the visual representation of equations and formulas being able to be joined by text is very impressive!
A E 501
We'll continue to look at more and more features as the quarter progresses. Keep me posted on how things go.
Ae 501. I never used Mathematica but I am liking it already. Thank you for the tutorial.

This was a very helpful video to get me started on Mathematica!
Looking forward to using Mathematica towards the second problem in the homework now that I understand how to use it. Thank you!
Thanks so much! Very nice pace, in most other tutorials (e.g. for programming languages) either they explain super slowly or for experts. Great video.
Great intro video to Mathematica! Very helpful to get started quickly. - Thanks!
AE 501 - This video was key for me to get a basic understanding of Mathematica as someone who has never used it. I think I will be relying heavily on it this quarter, especially utilizing the typesetting ability to present my homework solutions cleanly.
AE501: My first time using this tool. This video is so helpful. Thank you.
another great video. clear and concise. Thanks Professor
Nice introduction to a powerful tool I've never used before.
All the organizational features seem really helpful!
Great intro! Writing equations seems much easier than Word, looking forward to learning more about Mathematica.
Just great; enough, useful, and easy; thanks a lot
Thanks for the introduction to Mathematica! Having used Microsoft Word in the past for writing equations, this is far easier.
Thanks, it's very helpful towards learning the most useful parts quickly!
(AE511) Deja vu all over again! Your tutorials were extremely helpful not only for 501, but in subsequent classes as well; I'm sure that the same will be true for 511.
Chad, thanks, I'm glad they were useful as a refresher!
Great intro to getting started using Mathematica!
This is such a great tool, very excited to use it
Great video for learning the basics of Mathematica.
AE501: This is my first time using Mathematica and the video was extremely helpful!
Great video. Learned a lot, thanks!
I'm looking forward to learning more. Great intro professor.
mathematica is such a better logic language that matlab- very concise and helpful tutorial
A good review on some of the shortcuts to creating/editing a document
Thanks Chris for the Mathematica Intro.
Thank you so much! It's really helpful!!
AE501: I have worked with MatLab many times but never Mathematica. When I started at Boeing I was introduced to a tool and was told it was very similar to Mathematica, I can definitely see that now. After viewing this video and the "working with matrices in mathematica" video, I feel like I would prefer Matlab for matrix manipulation, mainly because of the extra steps needed for column manipulation in mathematica. I am definitely going to use it on the homework to get a better feek for it.
Did not know how to clear all of the workbook variables until this video!
AE501: This was a very informative intro to Mathematica. I really like this tool and will be using it in the future!
A very helpful introduction to Mathematica.
Great Video to start with Mathematica @Christopher. I would be watching next set of videos.
Very helpful video. Thank you for posting this.
That was the type of video i was looking for. Thank you!

Thanks for these lectures. helped me a lot to pass my learning curve
Great intro. Thanks Chris!
Thanks for the video. Great reference!!
Not overly familiar with the true ins and outs of Mathematica so this is a good intro series.
Very useful video! Good introduction to Mathematica.
Great refresher on Mathematica
I've never used Mathematica before so this is a great 1st video to be introduced to the language. Thanks for the great video.

[AE 501 FALL 2022 - JENNIFER JOHNSON] Very helpful intro into Mathematica. I want to say I have used Mathematica before however I am not recognizing it. This intro is helpful and just what I need to get started.
Jennifer, great I'm glad it was helpful. I promise that Mathematica gets easier once you get past some of these initial stumbling blocks.
Fantastic tutorial. I have always used MATLAB until now. Maybe I should diversify myself and use Mathematica more.
AE501: This is Garrett J, I wish I would have been aware of this tool during undergrad! I would often times struggle to concisely present long derivations on homework without creating walls of chicken scratch for TAs to sort through...
Yes, Mathematica is really great for helping communicate mathematical ideas. Keep me posted on how it goes!
AE501 - this was my first time using Mathematica, good intro
I have missed the first lecture in my course. this was really helpful. Thanks.

Thank you so much
Really good to know that you need to re-evaluate the notebook if you close out of it. That definitely would have come back to bite me.
