- One of the most enduring iconic actors, known mostly but not exclusively as an action movie star. Making the move from the small screen to the big screen in the 1960s, contributing to the birth of the Spaghetti Western genre. Eastwood had an uncanny way of reinventing himself and remaining relevant. As an action hero and anti hero he usually carried firearms that were also iconic to his onscreen characters. Known for turning down roles like Superman and James Bond, he clearly was and is a confident strong role model. Today we will take a look at some of the firearms he used in his movies

You just forgot to mention the 44 magnum automatic in Sudden Impact as his alternative weapon after he lost his S&W 44 magnum while being mobbed by a group of bad guys.

Clint Eastwood is, has been, always will be, and still is, the only man on earth I would like to trade places with. And he drives a pick up truck As a daily driver, I love that man.
You also forgot to mention the Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver used in Unforgiven, that he asked one of his partners for. And the 1858 Remington New Model Army he used in High Planes Drifter.
Don't recall him using the 1858 Remington in High Plains Drifter but he did use it in Pale Rider.
Being an oldie, I remember Clint during the Rawhide days, and turning up at a fast gun competition, he wore a so called 1919 walk and draw holster, with a Colt single action 5.5 inch barrel revolver. His time was way down the average draw and fire.
Eastwood used his gun belt and holster from Rawhide in the dollars movies.

Great video with Clint Eastwood. I was introduced to the ‘Man Without a Name’ when I was very young at a local Drive-In, and I still watch his movies every time I catch one being shown. Probably have most of his lines memorized by heart!
Anytime someone mentions a Western I’m usually talking about Clint. The man understands the culture of the West. Mostly a cowboy would use his pistol to shoot snakes. Rarely did a true gunfight occur excluding the shootout at the O.K. Corral. Some actors ( John Wayne ) were lucky enough to talk to the REAL Wyatt Earp. Thanks for the video and memories ;-))

My favourites I think are the 1858 Colt New Army in Pale Rider, the Smith and Wesson Schofield Model 3 in The Unforgiven and the Colt Walker 1847’s in The Outlaw Josie Wales.
No that was the 1858 Remington New Model Army, he used in Pale Rider. He may have also used an 1860 Army in High Planes Drifter, which I mistook as the 1858 Remington in Pale Rider.

Every review I've seen shows them to be expensive collectible wall hangers, though. Not sure why they were so awful for actual shooting.

Since I saw the fist Clint Eastwood movies ,no other is good enough for me.There are only a few others I like. "True Grit" the best John Wayne Western , and the Western Silverado is not bad. Kevin Kline plays a cool Guy , Scott Glenn & Brian Dennehy are greaat too and the young Kevin Costner.Every Movie a Masterpeace,from Rawhide to Unvorgiven , nobody beats Clint ,my Opinion.

Over the years, I've noticed that the idea of karma is quite popular in the USA. specifically, the idea "karma" means that if you do something bad, something bad will happen to you in this life and Clint Eastwood movies certainly promoted this and that's what the viewers loved.

The most iconic was the 44 Automag. You showed images but no mention of it. I use mine to take medium sized game like deer, wild hogs, and black bear. Great gun.

The 5 1/2" SAA's he used in Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More was the same gun he carried in the TV western Rawhide. His gun rig and boots were also from Rawhide.

Interesting that in the Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Lee Van Cleef is armed with an 1858 Remington revolver, which is a percussion revolver. He has cartridges on his gunboat, but a close look shows percussion cap on the revolver.
Both Eastwood's and Tuco's Navies are again straight percussion but are shown again as cartridge revolvers with the standard cylinder and under barrel loading lever. However, the .44 cartridges shown are incorrect. The Navy was a .36-calibre gun, the type of cartridges shown are later than the Civil War and the conversion of Navies started with the Thuer well after the war.

Cartridge conversion was popular back then.Colt resisted cartridge guns,because they believed people would always want to load their won.And was cheaper to convert your existing gun then purchase a new gun.
Possibly the cartridges carried were for the rifle...
I always had the biggest crush on Clint he truly was one handsome ,sexy man in his day and it will be a sad day for me when he is no longer with us .
The Outlaw Josie Wales... my favourite movie since I was 10 years old, and the book that inspired it, Gone to Texas also happens to be one of my top ten favourite books. All the iconic one liners in the movie come from the book. I've always felt it was a shame Clint Eastwood never made the sequel 'The Vengeance Trail of Josie Wales' into a movie.
I had to special order the book from my library.
I was surprised at how short it was.
And how much artistic license he took. But I've loved it since I saw it in the theater. But did you ever notice that josey never reloads his guns in the whole movie one time
@@roryschweinfurter4111 Well he did carry at least three pistols until the boy died of his wound and then he carried four... and he also had Chief Lone Wadie to back him up in some of the fights... so didn't need to reload straight away. The only time he expends the ammunition in all four pistols is when the Red-Legs and the other bounty hunter arrive at the ranch. Even before that when he kills ten out of the eleven comancheros he kills one with the Sharpe's Rifle and the other nine with 10 pistol shots from his two primary pistols. Yes he did apply artistic license to the story which didn't hurt the movie at all and is common with most movies taken from books. As for the book I got an edition with both Josey Wales stories in the one book off eBay a few years ago.

The Uniform in Where Eagles Dare is not a "Nazi" uniform, it is a Wehrmacht Gebirgsjäger uniform from the 1st Mountain Division. This is a regular German Army unit and not a Waffen SS or Nazi organization. However, it was an elite unit and did commit many war crimes.

The Man Without a Name films are out of chronological order. TGTBATU is the 1st, followed by FFoD, followed by FaFDM. The wrist brace has to do with the injuries from FFoD. Sheeeeesh.

Bunked off school to watch magnum force, four years later I owned a Smith and Wesson model 29, you could say Clint had an affect on me.
I have 2 guns from Jeremiah Johnson - a Lyman .50 cal Hawkin and .50 cal Traditions pistol, both built from kit form using traditional bluing methods, and I added a patchbox in my Hawkin ordered from the actual Hawken complany (so there is some genuine Hawkeness in it). My other black powders guns are a Pietta 1851 Colt Navy .36 and an Uberti 1862 Colt Pocket also in .36 (Same as the 1849 Colt Pocket .31, but upped to .36). I LOVE all my blackpowder guns as they give me a s#iteating grin everytime I fire them. I love the "active history" of shooting these old gun designs that helps me learn what I see on-screen in movies. I love learning that history hands-on, making mistakes while talking while reloading (have you done that yet?) and appreciating how slow the process of reloading is, and shortcuts taken to have preloaded cylinders (magazines) in the wheel guns. I just love the active history lesson.
The first two of the spaghetti westerns were not period pieces. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly was set during the US Civil War, so he couldn't have a peacemaker since they came out after the war ended.

In the Sergio lione series, westerns the first one he gets his shooting hand injured when it is stepped on and ground bloody by a boot heal. So in the second one he wears the leather brace on that hand. As it was injured
Also of note, is one of the Walkers he used in Josey Wales, was also the one used in John Wayne's True Grit.
Great actor ; however, you forgot the one movie he used a colt -44 Automag , which is like an elephant gun in a handgun! Two-handed stance grip ; files a .240 boattail slug powerful enough to rip through an engine block ! Deadpool, maybe ?

My stepfather always phantasised about being Clint Eastwood. Every night I came home I looked into the barrel of a 1911. I hated it.

In 'Josey Wales' he also started off with an 1860 Army (converted, so not period accurate). He seems to have picked up the Walkers and an 1849 Pocket at some time during the credits montage.

Clint Eastwood's character in The Good the Bad and the Ugly is the backstory to his character in A Fistful of Dollars and for a few dollars more
During The Good the Bad and the Ugly he never wears the Poncho until the very end of the movie where he finds it after blowing up the bridge and crossing the river with Tuco.
he finds a wounded soldier who passes away and this is where he takes possession of is trademark Pancho.
He uses a Colt cap and ball cartridge conversion open top revolver because the era of The Good the Bad and the Ugly took place near the end of the Civil war. Prior to the introduction of the 1873 Single Action Army otherwise known as Peacemaker.
The movie A Fistful of Dollars is the introduction of Clint Eastwood's character referred to as Blondie post Civil War era sporting the aforementioned Poncho as well as a more modern colt 1873 Single Action Army Peacemaker with the same grips as his cartridge conversion open top from The Good the Bad and the Ugly along with the trademark Poncho, indicates it is the same person.
The movie for a few dollars more, we hear more about the identification of the blonde stranger With No Name referred to as Manco, because by now he's making a name for himself across the West as a bounty hunter.
He is the same person from Fistful of Dollars by the hand brace he wears as a result of the injuries he suffered near the end of A Fistful of Dollars, his short barreled Colt Single Action Army 1873 Peacemaker has the same grips and he's wearing the same poncho.
Lee Van Cleef character is a different person in the end of for a few dollars more as opposed to Lee Van cleef's character in The Good The Bad and The ugly, where that character was written off at the end of the movie as the bad man.
The proper order to watch the aforementioned three Clint Eastwood Sergio Leone Spaghetti Westerns is.
1. The Good The Bad and The Ugly
2.A Fistful of Dollars
3. for a few dollars more
Watching these movies in this order will show you the evolution of the character and that it is one and the same character.
in all three instances, he is a bounty hunter, it shows how we evolved from an old model cartridge conversion cap and ball revolver and modernized over the years, shows how he got his trademark Poncho and shows how and why he wears a hand brace in the final movie for a few dollars more.

They're not chrome-plated the realistic old western colts dragoon. Tombstone was a great western. But most of pistols were all Chrome plated and they didn't make chrome plating until 1938. It's not the actors fault it was the prop managers and producer

Actually the Dollars Trilogy movies are connected. While they weren't made and released in a chronological order if they're watched in the order of TGTBATU you see Clint's character find the iconic pancho at the end of that movie and then in AFOD his hand is injured when he takes a beating and needs to wear a leather wrist brace, that you then see him wearing in FAFDM.

In the Man with no name trilogy you forgot a gun, after Blonde frees his friend from the gallows and they ride of to kill his friends brother, they come back to town and Blonde stops at a gun store and builds a gun from 3 different models after his guns had been taken from him. And in the Good the Bad and the Ugly, his friend recognized him by the trumpet sound of that gun.

No mention of the Spencer he used in Unforgiven to off Little Bill, or the S&W Schofield the 'kid' gave him after he wimped out when shooting the guy sitting on the crapper in the outhouse.
He didn’t wear an SS uniform, it was a Heer (general army) officers uniform(SS never wore the German eagle on their right chest, the SS eagle was worn on the upper left arm).
They skipped Pale Rider. One of his best western movies
I wish Hollywood would make a new Dirty Harry esque movie with perhaps Hugh Jackman as a continuing Dirty Harry character, much like James Bond or a newer character, perhaps Calahan's son filling his famous father's shoes.
the good the bad and the ugly was the prequel to the dollar movies, set during the latter years of the civil war he uses an 1851 navy, the single action colt had not yet been invented. also its where he got his iconic serape when he gives a smoke to the young dying soldier after covering him with his own coat, he feels he can't take his coat back off the kid so picks up the poncho. the first encounter with the silver rattlesnake grips was when he was playing as rowdy in rawhide, he ended up with the gunfighters gun with the snake grips on. if it wasnt for the fact that good bad ugly was civil war era, the man with no name could have been rowdy yates years later?

The good the bad, and the ugly takes place in 1862 when general Sibley invaded New Mexico and Arizona with his Texans. Throughout the Civil War, Smith, and Wesson had monopoly on cartridge revolvers. The monopoly prevented Remington and colt from manufacturing cartridge revolvers

I often wondered about that 1851 Navy Colt converted to cartridges. Who did the conversion and are parts available to do this? Would it take a special load? Those were 36 caliber so a 38 special or a .357 would be close.

@@conrailfan6277 I'll check that out. I loved shooting my black powder repo Navy Arms. MIne were actually a confederate copy with a round barrel. (Leech and Rigdon) but all the clean up after shooting black powder is a pain.

Black powder is so corrosive it
will rust up the gun in no time,
I do pack the top of the cylinder

@@conrailfan6277 Its reccomended to grease each cylinder not just for lubrication but mostly to prevent the weapon from cross-firing into the other cylinders. More of a safety precaution.

I met Forrest Carter (author of the book) back in '75 or so. His two brothers had moved from Tennessee to Abilene, TX and owned a Texaco service station where we bought gas. I would sometimes work for the Carter brothers on weekends washing cars and doing oil changes. One day their brother, Forrest, showed up and my part time job was over. As I remember, he was a very humble man and I didn't find out he had written the book until after the movie came out. I mentioned the move to his brothers while getting gas one day. That's when they told me who and what Forrest had done.
