So sorry to hear about your orchids! Mines went through the same thing. I spent a good amount of time dealing with black rot and cutting away rotting leaves. Glad that some of your vandas are blooming though! They look beautiful!
Melissa, the arachnis don't need any special way of cutting. You do a straight cut, put a little cinnamon on both tips. The one that you will put back in the pot let the tips dry with the cinnamon for 24hrs then add it to your pot. They will start having new growth. Hope this help

Oh, I'm so sorry for the damage and the loss. We got a taste of Debby here in NC. A tree fell right outside our apartment windows. Fortunately it fell away from the building. I worried about you during Debby and sent some positive energy that you would be safe and the damage would be minimal. Look , Spotted Charm survived and she is a bright spot in all the mayhem. Find the beauty. That is how you will get over the loss. Find what is beautiful. Hey! Orchid haul!

Melissa, sorry for your damage and loss to your orchids. You should bring them inside either in patio or garage. I put my orchids in my enclosed patio. All are ok. That is part of life it comes with up and downs. Ok stay blessed. ❤🙏

Hi Melissa, You mentioned that your daughter likes butterflies. Passiflora actinia will attract lots of orange and black Gulf Fritillaries to lay their eggs, especially on the vine's tendrils. The plant needs a strong support and the caterpillars eat LOTS of leaves but the butterflies are so pretty!
Another magnet plant is Senna with ferny leaves and yellow blooms that attracts the yellow Sulfer butterfly to lay its eggs on.
The adult butterflies love to drink from Lantana, Zinnias and Pentas. Hope you and your daughter have fun!

Hi Melissa. So sorry about your orchid babies. Mine arw under an overhang on my patio so I cut open trash bags and used the clip clothespins to clip edges to the same metal racks you have. I am near Philadelphia PA so we got lots of rain from Debbie. I was at Lowes buying lights for the orchids when they come inside and husband said lets go see what orchids they have. Well i literally ran because they had BAG BABIES!!!!! My Lowes Never ever had Cattelya Bag Babies. I was beyond thrilled and they were in great condition. 😊😊😊
Wow! Yay for you! For me the HD carries better bag babies. My Lowe’s has a few and there are almost gone like health wise.
I have 2 stalks of Arachnics about 2m tall which I hold it with a Coco husk pole. They love sun and need 100% sunlight for the whole day in order for them to bloom. Mine has been blooming with 4 spikes continuously, never stop blooming ☺️
Or really! Maybe that’s what’s happening I moved it to the center of the pergola where there’s less sun. Maybe I’ll move her closer to the edge. I thought the leaves were burning. 🤷🏼♀️
After big rains you should load them up on calmag! It's good to spray them during the rain. That helps prevent alot of that. Good luck. 😁 you can turn some of those around. ☺️

Part 2. Remove some of the bottom leaves before planting so the leaves are not in dirt or other media. Your top cutting should have at least 3 mature roots, then you are set. Have a bless day

Yes! The vandas are taking off but I’ve also seen many Phal spikes so equally exciting!!
For your shelves: mineral oil and seel wool will remove the rust on shelves.
You can always get new orchids.

We are having tropical storm Ernesto over Puerto Rico since yesterday. I had to bring my cattleyas from the balcony to my dinning room table. The wind knocked down a dendrobium from the balcony. I will be dealing with the poor dendrobiun later.

Im so sorry to see damage to your beautiful collection.....I'm suprised you dont find strange orchids blown in from other places, mixed in with yours........I should say,..... theres always a silver lining,.....things could be worse.....the sun comes out tomorrow, ....yada yada yada......
..Instead I'll say..... go mix up a Mojito, or two.....and sit among your orchids that were strong enough to make it thru the storm, .....still blooming, ....and still emiting a beautiful fragrance......and then make a shopping list to replace the ones lost....I saw aleast 2 orchid shopping videos among the damage.......oh yeah....keep on smiling.
