20 years ago, I had a few bikes at the same time. Among them, a VFR750 and a Kawasaki Drifter. Long days on the Drifter were idyllic. I used to go over to France a lot in the summers, and simply wander, stopping occasionally to dig the map out. By contrast, the VFR tempted me more onto the autoroutes, with high speed cruising, a destination selected, and time/distance calculations in my head. And my throttle hand would start to cramp a bit. It's not that it wasn't fun, in its way, and the Drifter often got ridden fast too, but if you're measuring enjoyment by days in the saddle versus distance covered per day, the Drifter was the better option.
Also, with advancing years (I'm 67) consideration has to be given to manageability. I was talking about this with a friend over the New Year. I currently run a a GL1500, which is a bit of a beast. It's not that I can't manage it, but do I want to? Plenty of older guys run them in their 80s, so it can be done, but I'm starting to think that a smaller bike would be more carefree and enjoyable, and more appropriate to my inevitably declining physical condition. My friend joked about me wanting a bike that was not so much "entry-level" as "exit-level"...

I see why it's cool but a lot of this guys will reconsider when they get sixty and have trouble handling the weight. I considered it but ego aside, lighter is better

Am 65...6' 1".....Had to sell my GSX1400 last year as diagnosed with arthritis in the kneecaps and as a lover of all day rides wasn't feasible to continue...however... haven't sold my good riding gear and considering cruiser... Best financial option at the mo appears Suzi 800 or yammy 900..... maybe look at a yammy 650 or Honda 750..

Sorry to hear about the knees. The Stryker is raked out with more forward controls, I really liked the feel.
