duuude this is so dope! I've been following your channel a while and saw that you talked abt equipment here and there but how does you mixing process look like? which speakers/headphones you use? you use any treatment in your room? your beats sound so good on any speaker lol. I'd appreciate some insights, it's so interesting from sound design to composition and so on. keep it up dude, I'm here to support 🔥
likewise. i would love to write heavy shoegaze and have all the tools and even some of the music theory down, but would like to know the nitty gritty production details that makes this sound so good as well
@@omnis1182 the way you described it shows that you got a good understanding, especially the part with the details. that is so important. I would suggest you to just start creating and listen to as much shoegaze as you can, analyze the stylistic choices into the smallest details and, if you play guitar, learn songs you like to get familiar with chord shapes, progressions and tunings. grayskies has some serious knowledge, which you can hear by the cords/progressions he plays, the sounds he chooses (drums, amps) and the way he mixes. that makes it so nostalgic and authentic. sure there are a lot more details like fx/texture and there is getting more into that than the things I described. but getting some insights would be so dope. haven't seen that much discussions about this on his channel yet. I'm happy for you, that you're inspired, so keep it up! I'm sure you will create great music!🙏🔥
I can’t find anything about his equipment haha, u got any insights? Rlly curious about the mixing process and effects and stuff if he’s ever discussed it
appreciate your words! my headphone is a sennheiser hd 600 and speakers are rokit 5s i got some acoustic panels on the walls but nothing fancy usually i do some rough mixing while i record, and after it's all recorded and the composition is done i polish the mix - for these instrumentals i'm always looking out for harsh and spiky frequencies on the distorted guitars, finding the balance between the drum tracks, eqing and compressing, using reverb to create space and ambience, using fx and creating automations to enhance the tension curve in the song, etc i don't really know what else to say in general but if you have specific questions please let me know and i'll be happy to answer!
aside from headphones n speakers my main guitar is a squier jmjm and last month i finally got an amp (orange cr60) which i'm experimenting with micing with a couple of sm57s - that's what i used on this track. before this one i used exclusively amp simulators, mainly amplitube i also got some pedals - a compressor, eqd plumes which i'm always using, a boss hm2w (i use this for layering more high frequency distorted rhythm tracks here in this song), tc electronic flashback ii, collateral fx white russian (a green big muff circuit which i use for layering the warmer more low mids heavy guitars) - i think these would be my most used atm lmk if u have more questions!
And..... U.... Can. Still. Feel... The. Night. Crawling. Alongside the scars u. Leave behind. Just. To remind. Yourself..... Of.. all.... The. Ways.. we. Both. Broke. Apart... . Smile.. now as u scream... From. Elsewhere..... While I. Bask. In your break.....
