    I remember the Broadway cinema.
Saw films in there in 1967.
Three years later it stood derelict in 1970.
It was flattened and is now a car park.
More recently the old Kings Arms pub which I often frequented was demolished.

Thanks for interesting comments you made about the Meir Memories video. I myself went to the Nursery then Primary School in Harrowby Road as a young lad.
I can recall a lot of what you commented on now that you have refreshed my memory.
It bought a smile to my face as they are the same my memories of Meir .
The first film I saw on the Broadway was South Pacific with my mum and brother.
      Thanks for refreshing my memories.

I was going to ask if anyone remembered Fred Holdcroft's. My first job after leaving school was in a motorcycle dealership and we'd deal with all the other potteries dealers for parts. I'd have to pop out and collect parts from various dealerships, many now gone. I loved looking round Holdcroft's even though it was a bit past it's heyday. Happy memories.
I still have a couple of BSA Bantams amongst my motorcycle collection 😊

@@PurityVendetta Hi Sophie, yes like i said bought a bsa bantam D7, and just gazed at the other bikes i couldn't afford!!! Also remember broadway motors at stoke i think and norman and birches, searles ( think i spelt it right? ) at burslem near the canal where you could get any second hand parts. Also remember the old chaps going to work on their norman nippys, nsu quickleys , honda 50's etc and the many old 3 wheelers knoking about, Happy days!!!!

@@stevehandy5381 Oh yes, now you're making me smile. I used to get spares for my Villiers engined trials bike which I bought for £20 from Broadway Motors. George, one of the mechanics could quote the parts numbers back when I showed him a part. I used to walk from my home in Trentham to Searle's to buy cheap bits for the bikes my brother and I had. Searle's was in Furlong Lane Burslem if I remember correctly. My friends and I used to refer to the little old lady who owned Broadway Motors 'Mrs Lopsided' after the lady in the film The Ladykillers. We weren't being nasty or anything as we were always very respectful. I can still remember having my nose pressed on the window looking longingly at a Norton Commando that was so out of reach it might as well be a Ferrari 😊
I don't know if you remember Cook's in Victoria Road Fenton or Hill Street Kawasaki in Stoke. I became good friends with Steve Kendrick who went on to own Sportbike at the bottom of Shelton. I worked two paper rounds and Saturday mornings at Pimlot's garage in New Inn Lane. Happy days indeed, thank you for bringing back such memories. I keep looking for pictures of these places from my younger days so if anyone is reading this and has pictures please, please share them.
I almost forgot, John Taylor's Honda in Fenton and West End Scooters. God, happy days 😊

My mum grew up in Meir many years ago and seeing the steam engine reminded me that of my Great grandad who was a train driver and he actually drove The City of Stoke-on-Trent train on its maiden journey. This city could have been so much better, that aerodrome could have been expanded but as always seems to be the case around here we end up at the bottom of the list with any investment or project. The only good thing left is the people. Some great photos though, thank you.

I learned to fly there 1967 to 1971. Still flying and gliding but in East Anglia now.
Left the area in 1971 to move to Yorkshire, Manchester and Bristol.
Sad to see so much decline in any area .

Used to have a great high street with everything you wanted for variety. Fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers, men and women’s clothes, shoe shop, electrical, bike shop, pet shop, fishing tackle, bread and cake shop, newsagents, tobacconist, banks galore, great DIY shop under the archway for wood, glass, paraffin….anything you needed, a sports shop…….just so much. Now it’s just vape, shops, charity shops and solicitors and any number of “barbers” and “fast food” places fronting goodness knows what. Sad to see what it now is.

I learned basic driving and to ride a motorcycle on the runway of th old aerodrome. I was sad to see that Barratt box estate be chucked up and the old flight sheds knocked down.
Meir always seemed to be another part of Stoke on Trent that was wrecked and abandoned by our glorious leaders. I do hope the place is doing better now.
