  • Dictionaries, number ranges and character padding - OH MY! (:
In this episode of #DynamoShorts we'll review fundamentals of #DynamoForRevit including searching and navigating through the node library, creating dictionaries, creating number ranges, padding characters for consistent character lengths, working with different data types, Dynamo warnings and more! Let me know in the comments what category of elements you plan to renumber!

This is super helpful! I've spent hours, just a few weeks ago, to figure out a very similar problem on my own. Will definitely check out re-writing it using Dictionaries - now that I know what they are. Finally Dynamo videos with just the right pace, showcasing just the right kind of every day problems to tackle. Go Dana!

Dana, these videos are great. I am very impressed and looking forward to learning more about how to leverage Dynamo and the Dynamo Player at our firm. What I find really funny is how you call the 30 min videos SHORTS!!! It is a commentary on Revit/Dynamo that nothing is simple. It takes effort and time to automate some of these simple tasks.

This is great. Helped me to identify a root issue of a script I am developing. Thanks and all the best!

Great overview, Dana!! Please, can you make something similar with unique elements inside an assembly?

Hi Dana, Thank you this is great!!! Can you please teach us how to add the order in which the numbering will start and end? Thanks

Dana, I do appreciate how you teach these classes. Could you number these elements by coordinates? For example, in the Floor Plan VIEW, arrange from left-down towards the right-up sequence. Thanks again.🙏

    Hi Dana,
Thank you very much for sharing these videos with us I found them extremely helpful and clear!
I have one question for you actually. When you use a sequency like in this script you can´t really decide where is the element 001 and when it will end the sequence. It looks like it follows an alphabetic order (?) is out there a way that you can decide your 01_001 object and keep numbering the obj clockwise along all the level?
Mayber is there another video of your that i missed? or some other feature in revit?
Thank you again, and keep up the good work!! :)))

its actually sorting them based on the order in which they were created. take a look at this video to sort elements :)

Hi, this is really helpful to sort by levels but as you know, tags must follow a direction. Can you please direct me how to add a spline to it? As in if we draw the spline and integrate its first intersection with each door instance and make the naming follow those points? I know it can be done but as a beginner I am totally clueless and stuck with a big file at college. If you could share the script for it or teach me the method to integrate this in your existing script it would mean a lot. Thank you!

Could you make a video showing how to make the structural frame nomenclature by level (following this order -> starting from top to bottom and then from left to right) and structural pillars by level as well, starting from the upper left corner (following this order -> from left to right) ?

  • @VanDynamoPlayer

What's the value in string padding stuff? I'm always unsure to do it or not. Particularly with doors, windows, rooms. I usually just have a point between the level prefix and number. D1.1 but should I be doing D1.01? Do people just like it in schedules or something?

    • @DanamoBIM
      @DanamoBIM  2 місяці тому

It is best to keep the same amount of characters, given the worst case scenario - so if your numbering goes up to Z99.99 I would use D01.01. Hope that helps!
