Surprised Kendo held up so well defensively, curious how much of a weight difference there was between the two blades
More than the weight difference (avg shinaï 300g vs longsword 1700g), the absence of steel simulator prevent proper sword binding and control.
Minimum regulation weight for a shinai is 510g, and that is a plastic feder not a steel longsword, I recall that it was from Red Dragon Armoury.
Was genuinely tryna see which one was cheaper smfh
Mismatched; kendo is an extremely limited version of katana techniques. Should spar against a kenjitsu practioneer for a realistic experiment
I'll be blunt ... a kendo shinnai, and its sport-based move set (limited to mostly swatting) is amusingly out of place against a longsword.
A more practical comparison/demo bout would involve an Iaiado/Kenjutsu practitioner of equal skill using a full length katana (and it's full array of moves) vs a longsword.
I’m sorry to say but have you ever been hit by someone who can do proper tenuchi before. There’s videos online of kendoka doing these small cuts on tatami and it works perfectly well
@@JoeAdam-kx1ou You missed the point. I didnt say, or imply, it was a useless weapon ... just that it was not most obvious and logical comparison choice.
Oh, and ive used, and been hit, by worse. Unless you're Mushashi, steel (even with an unsharpened "appleseed" edge) generally trumps sport analogs of bamboo, rattan, or hardwood.
I don't think iai can fill that spot properly unfortunately, as they mostly focus more on kata rather than practical testing
@@extremel.z.s3140 That is what Kenjutsu is for.
The Jutsu and Do suffixes distinguish the Practical and Sport forms, respectively.
Aside (not directed at anyone in particular) I really wish those who have not actually studied & practiced the systems relevant to this discussion would have the self discipline to remain silent, and perhaps learn something as a result.
And as always Hema Wins
Kendoka in the video is 1 kyu. He's a beginner.
Kendoka is a novice in comparison with different swordsmanship every time. It's really upsetting.
High rank kendoka most of the time well aware kendo alone is not going to win a competition with martial context applied, hence don't even bother accepting any matchup against different styles in the first place.
@@jaketheasianguy3307 maybe because most people in kendo who made it to that point understands why they're doing kendo and it's not to be an online western imagination of a samurai or to beat people up.
