Good but its a very bad car about consumption
This is the electric car for me! Consumption is not a big problem. I just want a quality electric car that looks Good! All black and with 22 inches - Thumbs up Bjørn :)
I am a jag fan to start with ,so i like the shape and seating etc ,and yes brilliant video, thanks,
Great job.Music selection was very nice.
Fantastic headlights!
Loved the video. Your reviews top everyone else's!
thanks Bjørn, think you should get in contact with the guys at the fullycharged show for some electric adventures ....
The I-pace has three very different tire sizes. This car appears to have the 245/50R20 tires. I wonder if the skinnier (and more aerodynamic) 235/65R18 tires would be a noticeable amount more efficient. Also the I-pace seems to use more performance orientated tires. I wonder if a more efficient tire like the Bridgestone Ecopia (Which comes in 235/65R18) would also make a noticeable improvement in efficiency.
I agree 100%
Erik Stephens, yes, I was also wondering about the tires and inflation pressure. I’d like to see a set of the same tires a model x uses inflated to a pressure of 85% of the model X 100D. We see a lot of examples of Tesla range dropping significantly when using the wider, sticker tires.
love these road trip videos of yours
24:37 those statues is taken from pictures of Rockcarvings nearby that is part of the world hertige.
Great video Bjorn, good music fits this perfectly. I own Tesla Model S and it’s due for a change, seriously looking at the the Jag I Pace first edition!
@10:57. Love the music!! I'm going to try it using your referral code cheers!!
Wow, this is getting super nerdy.😁 Drafting behind vehicles!?! Tailwinds!?! Thing is, would we ever get this analytical with a FFV?
I like it. Wouldn't be a BN road test video if it wasn't like this.
Bjorn, China has some very quiet motor vehicles, even including so called "muscle" cars. They are also rapidly embracing the newer BEVs and so the streets are so much quieter that in many other parts of the world that have traffic. The air quality is improving along with more renewable power generation.
Puhhhh looks like a long and exhausting drive.......
I have a theory about reduced loss at charging. P=VI, due to a higher voltage, for the same power output, the current is lower. A lower current will generate less heat through the circuit. Along with a better designed cooling system. The cooling system might just be more efficient to take heat our though passive dissipation. If the temperature of the cells does not increase too much (which we do not know), this is a very good design.
I have heard of software problems at the ionity chargers in Brohltal (near Koblenz) E-Golf 1st edition couldn't charge there
12:55 "But I've been driving with a hat". Bjørn expression for driving slowly?
+Lars Pallesen Norwegian expression.
I think that all of the brands you test should sponsor you, after all, it's free advertising!
I'm sponsored by the viewers. That's better.
I have watched reruns of "Top Smear" for entertainment only! Your reviews are edutainment. Kudos! I will keep watching until and after I purchase my next car.
19:06 maybee they can design a thing to put over the Grill for those who want lower consuption if it is that easy :)
I wonder how good the steering assist is. Because on earlier posts it looked crappy. I hoped that you showed it on you part 2. Is it autopilot worthy or not at all?
I wonder if the iPace is having the same problem with FastDC charging as my BMW i3 has. Only when using FastDC stations I will have an error "problem communicating with vehicle". No problem with Level 1 or 2 charging. This has happened with both ChargePoint and EVgo FastDC CCS stations. After talking with customer support both company reps told me to lock the car and try again because their side doesn't get a response from the car. I even have to close the sun roof. Then charging will start every time without problems. After charging starts I can then unlock the car and get in if necessary. I wonder if it is some kind of "safety protocol" the company lawyers have required when using high volt/amp charging?
What charge card(s) would you recommencement for best coverage cross Europe?
Another great video!
Oh shieeeet, let‘s go juicin‘ up, get some food (mhmm I like it) and do the quick math afterwards 😂
10:33 About the wind map, which Web App are you using? Do you need subscription?
I use www.windalert.com/ when doing Katesurfing.
I use windy-app
'Veggie Burger from Circle K' #YES
So did you contact Ionity during any of your charge sessions and ask them why the low(!) charge rate?
It would be interesting to race the i-Pace against the Kona for instance, where each car has access to as fast a charger as it can support...
+Francis Galiegue Kona would win by 1.5 hours.
Hi Bjorn, as I’m a fossil burner all these kw hours don’t mean anything to me. Could you possibly do a conversion to the equivalent of miles per gallon, in order to work out how cheap or expensive running an electric car really is ?
300 Wh/mile = 105 mpg (US), 33.4 kWh = 1 US gallon of gas, 1 litre of gasoline = 8.8 kWh These are energy equivalents
28:35 who the heck imported a Ford Freestar in Norway?!
Liked before watching club 👍
There is a battle between all BEV having AWD and a trailer hitch.
What used BEV gets faster to a selling price of 40.000,- Eur?!
iPace
eTron50/55

VW ID.4 (hopefully)
EQC
The high energy consumption at higher speeds would seem to indicate drag to be the issue. I don't recall you saying if the regen is adjustable or not. Could the regen be set too high for cruise and be wasting energy due to the high inductive load from the regen circuit. I can only compare to my Kona which has the 3 settings and on long runs the auto regen will set itself to zero and it is noticeably much more free wheeling. Has the Jag got regen set to max all the time or something bizarre?
The Jag is a quieter car with more sound insulation than Tesla. I have to wonder if he went a little faster than normal as you are less aware of speed in these cars. Also this version had fatter tyres on than Teslas have.
Can't wait until you get the Model 3 and take long road trips in it...put all these little girlie cars to shame. Love the video. You are best car guy.
Tesla semis in Europe, for sure!
Not unless they change the design. It is huge, but cabin interior is rather small. And no space for driver to rest. And we use cab-over-engine design for a reason here. So, it is actually quite likely to see electric lorries from local manufacturers first. For the same reason we don't see Macks, Internationals, Kenworths and Freightliners this side of Atlantic.
Semi?! Why do so many people talk like an American now, it's cringey as f@%#.
ipace weight 2133kg, kona 1685kg that's an extra 448kg or 990 pounds maybe this is the cause of extra consumption. it's like driving a tank
Weight of I-Pace is 2260 kg without driver. I checked today.
Weight of Kona without driver is 1720 kg.
but you don't drive at a constant speed you have to accelerate it
You would usually drive with cruise control on highways. So the effect should be neglectable on this roadtrip - which is almost "highway only". Also, have you seen that Bjoern was driving with 90km/h around denmark, although 120km/h would have been allowed? This is crary.
I really do think that the aerodynamic drag with this car isn't the best, combined with less efficient drivetrain and sub-optimal tyres.
This car is - although nice looking and probably of really good build quality - is one of the most un-efficient e-mobiles of the present.
that's even worse 540kg difference that's nearly 1200 pounds did they make this out of lead ? the extra weight is nearly that of a ford focus
what happens after owning one of these for say three years. the number of charging cycles will reduce the capacity of the battery over time right? so range will drop.
Typically the cars software will make sure you are not mistreating the battery too bad with charging cycles. For the EVs that have been around for a while they seem to be around 80-85% max range compared to new after around 5 years.
That is not true my i3 after 4 years the battery capacity is 98% that was mesured.
It won't drop thaaat much. Probably less than 5% in three years and then it will slow waaay down and drop very slowly.
Super review Bjorn as always, i was waiting for your review as my I-Pace is going to be delivered in November, i tested the car with the old and new software and the consumption for me did not improve, that is my main problem and i think iam going to give up on I-Pace, did you see the Apple car play? Thanks
+Paulo Segade I use Samsung.
In my eyes a full electric car at the moment is useless when you will face this errors when you want to recharge. I will rather choose a plug in hybrid. If you will do 1000 km and you need to wait 3 hours to recharge.. that's a lot. And when this types of errors will make you wait much longer, that's a huge disappointment..
The e.on pricing is quite off to, about 5 SEK/kWh.
Here in Germany you would pay 0,69€/kWh at fast chargers operated by allego. They are crazy.
@@martin.hillebrand Shiiiet!
At 110 kph my P85D routinely uses 200Wh/km or 5km/kWh, consumption on this Jag on flat road in good cool weather is atrocious!
This cars downfall is it's low range, nothing like as good as Jaguar claim, The other problem is the chargers, you had loads of problems, some not working, changing stalls etc etc. In a Tesla you just pull up to a Supercharger and it works!! P.S. There are no issues with panel gaps of the cars for several months, if indeed there ever was, seems like some fake news to me. I can't wait for deliveries of the Model 3 to start in the UK!!
I wonder if a software update will fix the consumption issue.
or the excess weight of the car
Chris Collins, the I-PACE has a lot of aerodynamics which improve handling and slightly increase drag. You see these used on a lot of high performance cars. Just like adding wings to a plane increases drag, but make it fly better, LOL
Does the wind keep the water off the rear windshield?
Nope...it is about "old fashion" design, so they need to approach it like EV not ICE:
Bjørn, can you talk with megahjul and ask discount for winter tires for subscribers? :)
Hi, 2 videos & at the end no Data, i.e.: Total mileage energy used, time for charging & cost ?
I have more info on your stomach content.
I have a Jag x-type 2.2 D with a full tank + 20 litre fuel can in the Boot 'Trunk' 1000 miles no problem with 2 drivers 14 hours at 120 Kph.
Coffee stop 5 mins & keep driving, Electric has a long way to go.
You need to put 4 adults in an electric car + luggage & drive at night & see how far you get ?
This is what people want to know.
Kind regards Ian.
Why on earth would you carry around 20l of fuel.
Yeah. The way to go if possible is always higher voltage, quite a clever design by Jaguar for their first EV. The higher the current the more losses as heat you will experience in a system. It probably also helps keep the temperature in the battery pack more optimal. I have no idea why the consumption on the Jag is so high. I'm going to have to try and find out some more about its powertrain. I'm curious what kind of motor set up they are using. I wonder if Jag designed it more for performance and luxury rather than efficiency - it has big ass tyres on it and Jaguar vehicles use very good suspension components. The vehicle also seems to have a lot of soundproofing. When really they probably could have eased up because it has the big honking battery in the floor keeping it glued to the road.
One thing that worries me is that JLR vehicles are notorious for electrical problems. The wiring looms and electrical components are very poor. I don't think these vehicles will prove anywhere near as reliable in the long term as Leaf, Kona, Ionic and even Tesla.
The statues are made from Bronze Age rocks carvings, about 5-10 minutes away from the mall.
You can search for the Rock Carvings of Tanum, I went there 2 months ago when I visited Sweden.
And yes, it represents the males penises.
Given a choice between Ipace and Kona, I'd choose Kona...both 5 seater suv, but Kona is like half the price. If you want a 7 seater, theres really only one choice right now to my knowledge model x had everyone beat. TESLA FTW PERIOD.
Tastes better than surströmming? :-)
This is how charging stations in America should be set up.
The I Pace, EQC and E-Tron only have one gear, that´s why the energy consumption is higher than the consumption of a Tesla or a Porsche Taycan because they have two gears.
Soo, do we blame ionity and the other charging stations or the i-Pace for the charging failures?
Yes I agree. What is wrong with the charging reliability, I mean when electric cars are the norm having faulty charging would be a real pain. I guess this is due to early days... incompatibility etc.. I mean what is the problem every charger having different apps.
Reminds me of the 80's VHS -BETAMAX- V2000... Why can't we just have a solid single charger? Why does Tesla have specific ones.
I just hope the market matures quickly before I get an EV maybe in 4 years time after my lease on my CH-R Hybrid is up :-) which gets great miles 50 -77 is typical but I would love an EV when the market matures say with 500+ range and charging in
My impressions is: High consumption, wheels to big, infotainment system is bad.. On the other side it's Jagg! :-)
Handles and grips like a dream. Good off road. Can get less sporty version with skinnier tyres like the Tesla to improve consumption.
Jaguars will always be a tradeoff in one way or another. I love my Jaguar XE but ithe insurance fee is soo high. On a long trip, it’s amazingly comfy and fast and still fuel efficient as hell up to 150 kph. I really cant see myself charging…
What? Eating in the Jag?
Yes, I eat in the car... because I got the Jag.
You didn't finish the story of Tesla Who, which your friend told the iPace lender. Please finish the story in your next video. I hate that bike rider for ruining the flow.
dude, orange juice is as as healthy a Coca Cola. But I guessing you know that haha
no luxury have more gadgets and kia has not gadgets which gives you comfort like hot seats in winter. Like Mercedes and Kia petrol give same range but why Mercedes is costly
A nice looking car, but....
Unlike ICE cars energy inefficiency can not be masked by providing a bigger fuel tank. This is the future, energy efficiency counts much higher than the foolish days of having larger tanks and consuming even more energy in the progress. Charging away from home is unlikely to get less expensive.
"Top Smear" although basically a comedy, often played on the viewers' ignorance of fuel tank size on range/speed "races".
Jeeez, the I-Pace looks so ugly. Would never consider buying it.
It looks like a fossil it's an old school brand
The build quality looks much better than any Tesla.
Thats is good i dont like to see everyone having the same car a have.
I loved the design. It is very trademark "Jag" design.
It's an individual taste thing. I really dislike Tesla interiors to the point that I won't buy one. I figure that I spend all of my time on the inside of a car and if I think it hideous, than it just won't work out. The only issue I have with the Jag is that they could have skipped the front grill. I think that killing its range as it creates drag. But that interior is great. The seats are really comfy and the fit and finish is top notch. Oh, and it really quiet on the highway with very little wind noise.
That is probably the ugliest Jaguar ever.
