Glad the vice grips worked for you. If you're fighting as you go around you can add another set further around the rim to hold your place. Don't listen to the haters. You know well enough half of them have never stacked firewood and likely have to tuck their berries so they don't pee on em. Stay warm!
If you're gonna keep doing your own tires, I'd definitely recommend getting a good set of bars. When I was doing that stuff, our shop bought Ken-Tool brand hammers and bars, they are pricey but they work great and you'll only ever have to buy one of each thing. I'd recommend at least one or two T47A, one T38, and if you have any of the old stuff with lock rings pick up a T27 too. And since you're doing it all by yourself, grab a monkey fist too, 31710 is their tool number for that. Just like that nice Stihl splitting maul you got, the Ken-Tool stuff is pricey but it's definitely worth the money if you're gonna do tires on your own equipment. I could do a tire like that one in just a couple minutes with the right tools.
Finally some one else said it!! Face Cords!!! Been selling it by the face cord for years its the most efficient and profitable way to sell wood in my area.
You're a beast. Good splitting. As for the tire, you gotta anchor that thing down. I don't have concrete buy I used lag screws to anchor it to my wooden shed floor. Was able to mount some big tires with the same device because it did not move while I was working on it.
Every year in the fallwhen i was a kid we would go to my grandmothrs house and split all the wood she needed to get through the winter. I hated it when i was young but as i got into my teens i began to appreciate it and what we were doing for her. As an adult i love splitting wood by hand. Im glad i had the opportunity to help her out and learn to do things with nothing but simple tools and strength. Love your videos Andy, God bless
Great work! I understand, cutting firewood is very satisfying. Now, when you clean out your wood stove, mix the ash in with your animal manure. That should make a super fertilizer!
Yes, at 26 thank God for my existence grandfather. My ex's, swamp Yankee. He helped in every aspect of putting my house up, modular, two pieces of a stick built house. He mentioned, how you gonna heat, I'm gonna turn heat on, you know what's that gonna cost ? He tells me he's got a old wood stove, well I don't have a chimney. We'll make one, OK gramps, we used steal casing, 11 years worth. Lmao for the first 11 years, did everything wrong. What a learning curve. Then spent $$$$ for a soap stone woodstove. The start of perfection. Hope you're not over run with 2.5" of dick pics. Give it hell Andy.
Jen Hughes, Mike really really needs a tractor to make his life simpler and even more fulfilling as a man . As well as it'll help him get all those honey do things on your list accomplished, really !!
There’s always some TOOL that want to post a negative comment, you know who you are, take your tiny mind get back in your box. This is a good man here.
A wise man once said you get heat 3 times from fire wood. "Once when you gather it, once when you split it, and once when you burn it." Another also said "Be carefull where you put your wood". 😂
As I stated on Facebook, Great job Boys! Way to help Dad, Mom and yourselves to stay warm throughout winter. Andy I just loved the closing thoughts on this video! You are absolutely right!
I live in New York, most of us use face cord measures or 42 cu ft. A full cord or bush cord as my Dad called it, is 128 cu ft like you said. I think I use face cord since it is easy to measure since we cut to 16" and one 4'x4' stack is easy to eyeball. I bet your boys are very proud they have a Dad that is so handy, they are learning life skills! Screw the haters.
Gotta love the 2 inch crowd! There's also the cord measurement differences between buying a cord and selling a cord to the 2 inch crowd that don't know but know they do know.
Those final talking points had me laughing until I teared a little. I'm a little behind, but my kids will be stacking and splitting with me soon. I usually cut, but my 7 and 12 year olds run my splitter, and run it well actually. Last year was the first time they did 100% of it. I was so proud that they stepped up. A tip I have, it doesn't look as pretty But I have started storing stacked wood in those old 'bulk tote' cages from the farmers. I take the liner out, and I can move them around with the forks. They still have airflow. Last year I got lazy and just lifted one onto the porch instead of stacking some on the porch for quick access. It looked like hell, but man my back was happy. I'm downstate, and 3-4 FC is enough for us to have fireplace fires that we don't get much heat out of on weekends. 1.5-2 full cords would heat our 1200 sqft house roughly if I convert our biomass furnace to wood use. Where your at, more wood is better, definitely.
Up here you need about 15 face cord to get through the winter. And that's on an average winter. There has been years that I've gone through almost 25 face cord.
LOL, Great Episode... Thanks for sharing... BTW I myself prefer heating with heat too... LOL... great way to spend time together as a family.. Keep them coming
That's what I like about Andy, he's always got a positive angle to everything. Even if it does mean embellishing the truth somewhat... 2.5" indeed! Pah, as if? Also, someone please do the math and tell us what 2.5" of wood is expressed as a fraction of a face chord? 😂😂😂
You moved a lot of wood. Great video. I had to cut, split and stack all our firewood back in the day as a kid in the UP. I had 3 sisters and 0 brothers; they never lifted a pinkie to help. Builds character they said. Andy, that is you, a great character. Your videos are awesome. Keep them coming. Man, I miss living in Michigan.
It honestly really pisses me off that you have to say it’s “a chicken house” .. 100 years ago, you could build a new house without getting any permits or anything, and no one could say anything about it .. nowadays the permits themselves cost thousands, for a fuckin piece of paper that says you’re “allowed” to build
❤ Damn! What a good one! You really made this one a family affair. It's a Blessing when things like that naturally happen. As always I love ya, God Bless
That last comment of yours was funny! "F" them if they can't take a joke. Out of all the UA-cam videos I watch I would say YOU have to be the best. You need a place for donations.
The internet gives people a voice. Unfortunately they use it to bitch about absolutely everything. Those young fellas did an outstanding job stacking firewood, that's all that matters here.
I'm with you Andy. I hand split most of my wood and use the splitter for the limby and knotty stuff. I do however have a metal shed to store it in. I fill that 10x12 shed most years. What I have left over gets tossed out, the new stuff put in then last years old stuff go last. I do admit, I burn a lot of pine but it's what I have. Season it for 2 years and it burns just as good as anything else. I do sweep the chimney every spring. I had a bunch of cedar one year and THAT built up a lot of creosote!
Question. How do you sharpen your maul? I know how to do double axe and knives. But can’t figure out the angle on the maul because it’s a rounded end. Thanks.
Hey brother, I don't know that it will actually cause you any trouble with burning it (in that quantity) . But cherry is a very acidic wood. Never nail a barb wire fence to it, it'll rust out in no time. Dive down that rabbit hole and make sure it won't destroy ur chimney pipe, cast iron stove ect if it's all you're going to burn for a season.
Andy, you'll go thru 3 full cords easy even if you insulate the bejabbers out of the chicken house.. I went thru a bit more than that in an average winter in the PA mountains. I finally got smart and went to hard coal...
Cutting and stacking firewood was my favorite pastime. Sadly here in Ontario Canada each theres less people heating their houses with wood due to the fact that the insurance companies hike the rates or will not insure a home heated with wood unless its a outdoor furnace. Even then its not feasible for most folks. Which in my opinion is one the causes for the increase in forest fires and not sustainable lumber. Since the forests aren't being managed by yearly by selective cutting practices. Keep up the great work Andy
I am not trying to tell you how to do you but instead of using the T posts, you can try lacing the ends of the stacks. I'm not saying your way is wrong but it would save the posts.
My brother used to procrastinate on getting wood put up. He'd tell everyone he was waiting for confirmation that it was in fact going to get cold enough to need wood. 😂
I must say, I'm impressed by what you're doing, as always. Here you are, cutting your own firewood by hand and raising a loving family, and here I am, almost 54 years old, and the only outdoor activity I have is going to work, and going home when I'm done working. One thing we have in common is learning as we go, staying open to new ideas and options when things don't go as planned. Keep being smart, it hurts less than the other.
Nothing wrong with the boys stacking wood. Glad to see them happy to help.
Glad the vice grips worked for you. If you're fighting as you go around you can add another set further around the rim to hold your place. Don't listen to the haters. You know well enough half of them have never stacked firewood and likely have to tuck their berries so they don't pee on em. Stay warm!
😂had to make another comment because I LOVE your outfits Andy and this one was top notch. 😅

You are a dang hard worker. I got lazy and got a wood splitter and have never looked back.
Finally some one else said it!! Face Cords!!! Been selling it by the face cord for years its the most efficient and profitable way to sell wood in my area.

Its all good Andy ,love your wood video.

It does a boy good to stack wood then he also feels good because he helped keep himself warm all winter
Great work Andy!
Keep the videos coming. I love them.
Bless you and your family! Thank you for sharing! 👌 😊
Great work! I understand, cutting firewood is very satisfying. Now, when you clean out your wood stove, mix the ash in with your animal manure. That should make a super fertilizer!
Haha the last 10 seconds was awesome
ANDYYY!!!!! LOVE YAH BUD! GOD BLESS!

"It definitely looks bigger on cameras. You gotta watch yer angles."
You're gonna need a lot more. That chicken house looks drafty
Definitely gotta get the angles right!!
Pine is fine. Just needs to be seasoned and the creosote issues dry up with the wood.
Always love your video's, just a suggestion why not post your Facebook photos on the community tab here too?
I didn't know that was a thing lol
@@andyslittlehomestead6705 and I didn't get to the drama over your pictures part of the video until after I posted this.
Gonna be a warm bunch of chickens😅
Hey Jen Mike needs the tractor
Jen Hughes, Mike really really needs a tractor to make his life simpler and even more fulfilling as a man . As well as it'll help him get all those honey do things on your list accomplished, really !!
Ok the end we funny lol
Hit the rubber cement with a lighter real quick. It'll instantly be tacky
If you grill or smoke meat that cherry wood is as good as it gets just has to be dry and no bark
80 people that viewed this may possibly not survive a harsh winter in their area because of inadequate measurements 🤷🏻👌✌️
Those trees will not die from goats eating the bark..... speaking from first hand experience
Hi, Carlos. Whaaaaaat ever he thinks of, just say no
Jenn Hughes let mike buy a tractor, I know it doesn't seem like it but he needs it and sorry but Carlos is wrong. 😅
Andy why are you going to heat your chicken house? That’s why chicken have feathers.
A man who doesn’t raise his little men to take responsibility and do their part for the family, well, is likely a poor provider himself.

Most haters have skinny little wood - knowing this always puts their negativity in perspective. God Bless! xx

Dude I get so excited when you post a new video!! And you're absolutely right about to little prick that left a stupid comment. Good stuff 🤣
Like your wood! Love you Andy and as always you still need a skid steer and God bless!
Certainly one of the Top 5 content creators on UA-cam.!!! And Chip would agree 🐿️
I get super excited to see new videos pop up 🤠😎
That ending was one of your best ever!!!!!

If you trim around it it makes it look bigger to
LOL, Great Episode... Thanks for sharing... BTW I myself prefer heating with heat too... LOL... great way to spend time together as a family.. Keep them coming
Andy does Carlos know she is beautiful ?
I usually just ask you to say hi to Carlos.
In this video se looks very happy
Lol face cord, full cord and 2.5"... just enjoy it.
Stay warm this winter.

I know I am a bit late to the party it's funny seeing Carlos have to watch over her free boys (you know I'm rightTHREE) play around with their wood

Thanks for the tip (ad, sponsor) of the Stihl splitter. That'll make a great Christmas gift.
“Said a few things I’m going to have to account for”😂😂😂😂
Be careful where you stick your wood. Good advice as always - thanks.
I've always been a fan of not wrapping my wood. It's more fun wet, and pounding it in there until that pipe starts smoking.
I grew up in northern Wisconsin. A face cord is a real thing. Its the easiest way to sell wood because you can fit it in a 8 ft truck bed.
Just here reading the comments while this 8 minute commercial plays.

I love your channel. I would like to get some word from you. Or at least have you cut from Ward for me how do I get a hold of you?

Yes it is 46 this morning in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina
My buddy used wood for heat and hot water, he always had 3-4mo of wood ready just in case of injury.
First!!! Miss your vidz man. Need more! Lol.
You better get to the walls on the chicken house or that heating ain’t gonna work. Great ending also. Lol
Just here watching again. Liking and commenting to help 😂
Is Chip your emotional support animal?😂😂😂
I think this sort of thing is what society today is missing: good old physical labor..
The ending was pure gold Andy. Well said!
I wish I had the time to take off from and money to help you build your chicken house
My old man used to say to figure out how much wood you need and triple it. Good job with those boys!
When we got to the last one, my dad used to say "Well, that is the one we were looking for.". Tami F.
Are you going to be able to get the chicken house in the dry before winter? I for one don’t miss those northern winters.
Stack and split to get over your Shhhhissuse😂
we processed so much locust as kids i don't know how there are still locust trees around. lol
Nice to have multiple equipment to move wood piles
2 1/2 that's being generous!!!!!!😂
In Oklahoma they use cord or rick as a measure.= face cord
Your mate can’t get A tractor, but Iam pretty sure that means he can get a couple.
U better get the chicken house finished winter is coming
Keep up the good work another entertaining video.
Sir, you help me be proud to be an American!
6:50 Hydraulic Root Cellar😂
Well when you guna finish the chicken house
Lmao, two and a half inches of wood 😂😂😂
Love it! Keep the vids coming!
