So after all the awards are handed out, and all the singing and dancing is done, somebody should come out and give Neil Patrick Harris an award for being the Best Master of Ceremonies at an Awards Show.
NPH is pretty much the unofficial god of the TONY's when you're so revered by the Broadway community, that they don't even need to give you an Award, you're above the Award He is merely the Embodiment of all that is live Stage and Theatre. A little statue would be a disgrace to him and belittle his awesomeness After he passes, they'll probably change the name to the Harris awards, to honor his legacy
You know NPH won't be our host for the Tony's this year...he's too busy with Hedwig, which is fantastic but still sad for us, although his replacement would be my next choice...Hugh Jackman! It's already confirmed!
He did get awarded-three of them. Harris won Primetime Emmy Awards in 2010, 2012, and 2013 for hosting: _The 63rd Annual Tony Awards_ _The 65th Annual Tony Awards_ and _The 66th Annual Tony Awards_ respectively in the Outstanding Special Class Programs category. This speaks volumes.
"We were that kid" I may have teared up a bit at that part. Broadway isn't my dream of course, but for everyone who's dream it is, that must've been very inspiring. :)
Popping up a half-decade later to say this: Broadway isn’t even remotely my dream but that part gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat. And I immediately backed it up and replayed it and got them again. It gives me life to imagine some kiddo out there watching this, live or well after the fact like me, and feeling for the first time “This is my tribe. ❤️”
He jumped through a hoop -- live, on stage, while singing, and he's not even an acrobat. I got a head start in my livingroom in that moment with a standing ovation, before the audience got started. His standing O from the audience lasted a full 60 seconds and I'm sure it could have gone longer if not for being on a television broadcast. This opening number is my favorite video to watch when I am feeling down in the dumps. And the entire broadcast is what I watch when I get even lower than that.
tg1star The song just received an Emmy Award for *Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics*, Tom Kitt (music by), Lin-Manuel Miranda (lyrics by). So the song cannot be adapted in order to qualify for this award.

Yes! The cast was clearly having the time of their lives and it did not feel at all like an awards show performance-it genuinely felt like it was just another performance at the Shubert theatre. Also, Bertie fuckin’ carvel. How on earth can anyone deal with someone of that much talent and charisma.
NPH keeps getting bigger and better. Damn, i was like 6:35 every time he performs. I swear, these broadway performers are the most incredible singing live performers of them all.
I heard the rap sequence in Bring it On's performance, and immediately recognised it as something Lin Manuel-Miranda would write bc it's such a similar sound to My Shot and Washington on Your Side aha.
This makes me cry. The synchrony the harmony, the rhythm of his words, the rhythm of his verse, the rhythm of his feet and his eyes and his hands and his lips... Lin manuel Miranda wrote this, Neil Patrick Harris made it happen. How beautiful it is man... How beautiful it must feel to bring hundreds of characters from multiple musicals together, neutralizing their struggles, their lives, their stories, bringing them together to make something that's already big, bigger. This is so beautiful, so beautiful. I died. :'(
By this time he had experienced success with In the Heights. At the time, that show was earth shattering for me. All the things that people credit Hamilton (the show, not the man) with doing I felt strongly after seeing In the Heights. The things like bringing a wider audience to Broadway, using contemporary music, having a diverse cast, etc. In the Heights doesn’t get the credit I think it deserves. That being said, I am glad that Hamilton speaks to a larger audience, and has given more people the experience of live theater.
I love how the ending song was full of references to unscripted things that happened throughout the show, and yet it all flowed and Neil got it perfect.
I'm not much into theatre but i think i've watched this 100 times and NPH is the reason! This dude is pure awesomeness it's just ridiculous! He needs to rule the world!

*You're welcome--- Lyrics to the song* …We might, go bigger, that’s right it’s bigger, it’s Broadway’s greatest night and we’re raring to go. Let’s make it bigger, tonight it’s bigger. Who will take home a Tony statue we don’t know. I guarantee a truly legendary show. (Music break) The season’s new recruits include the cast of Kinky Boots you know they’re beautiful and buff as Navy Seals, and you could bounce a quarter off the ass of Billy Porter, Lord he does eight shows a week in eight inch heals. Hats off to Barry Gordie he runs Motown like a boss, he dominates top 40 and he banged Diana Ross. He wrote his own libretto, which is really kind of ballin’, he took every Motown classic and he said “I’ll put ‘em all in”. Make it bigger (it’s bigger), that’s right it’s bigger (it’s bigger), I just learned this dance like an half an hour ago, we’re goin’ bigger (It’s bigger), so much bigger (so much bigger), you ever seen so many Divas in a row (hell no), well stick with me cause your MC’s a season pro. (GO NEAL GO!) It’s pippin! Never pippin always slippin… (Unintelligible) …But the sky is overcrowded with his oh so highly touted cast of singing-circus people flying by. The cast of Bring it On, head counts them 32 debuts, hey kids welcome to Broadway, don’t forget your union dues. In tandem like we planned ‘em, forgive me if it’s random, but Mike Tyson had a one man show let’s give the man a hand and make things bigger, (it’s bigger), so much bigger (so much bigger), (unintelligible)…iron Mike he’s a heavy weight go (whoo!), we’re going bigger, that’s right it’s bigger. We’ve got cheerleaders, contortionist and soul, hey, hey. You’ll go off to sports bar and channel to our show. (GO NEAL GO!) The magical Matilda’s brought the show and nearly killed us, they (unintelligible) special Tony they can own. The Scotts of the akilly of the jade and former Billys they get Tony’s but get fired when they’re grown. Now here’s the kids from “Christmas Story” Annie and her orphans, so many child actors high on Redbull and endorphins. They barely come up to your knees but God they’re singing like MVPs, and they’re the reason this whole season seems to look like Chuckie Cheese, and geeze it’s bigger (it’s bigger), that’s right it’s bigger (it’s bigger). Is there a Tony daycare where all of you go, you’re getting (so much bigger), the night is bigger (we’re bigger), do your parents set aside your Broadway dough (heck no). When I played Dougie, never mind on with the show (GO NEAL GO!) Oh, Broadway’s most famous people go (go), for being famous doesn’t mean that you will get a good review, so Alec right and brandly if you wants that entertaining too. We’ve got magic to do… (Music & magic break) Bigger (bigger), that’s right it’s bigger (it’s bigger), I walking down the aisle with some Newsies in toe, ya know it’s bigger (it’s bigger), so much bigger (bigger), if there’s a Newsie you can firmly sup your no, you’ll get a Newsie in your gift bag when you go… (Close up) At the end of the day we are gathered together to honor the best and the brightest and tomorrow the fashion police will report on your dress and your orothontitus, if you win have the time of your life tell your manager, your dad, and your mom thanks. Hi to your kids and your husband or wife maybe just for the hell of it Tom Hanks. Something is bigger and better than seeing a better yet innovation, or seeing a brilliant beginner freak out on a win of their first nomination, cause a kid in the middle of nowhere who’s sitting there living for Tony performance of singing and flipping along with the Pippins, and Wiggins, and kinkys, Matildas, and Mormanses. So I might reassure that kid, and do something to spur that kid, cause I promise you all of us up here tonight, we were that kid, and now we’re bigger, tonight is bigger, so let’s create the biggest spectacle we know. Comes super, super sexy Cinderella sister celebrating ladies grab a fella, the tempo is accelerating Spidey, Pippin, Motown fans, and kid be rock of ages, Chicago bringin on “A Christmas Story” sharing stages, Mama Mia, Lion team and Jersey Boys. Kathy Lee’s a Broadway lyricist, so anything can happen. Bigger! New York is bigger, so welcome to our bigger better best of Broadway Tony shoooowwwwww!!!!!
To sit in a theater and watch these STARS at the end of the performance show such humility. Such appreciation...You realize that they are truly greatful to participate in such an awesome experience. Just as greatful as we are to be there enjoying every minute of it. Live theater... You just cannot compete with that. Absolute true, raw talent...

(GO NEAL GO!)
It’s pippin! (GO NEAL GO!)
The magical Matilda’s brought the show and nearly killed us, they (unintelligible) special Tony they can own. When I played Dougie, never mind on with the show (GO NEAL GO!)
Oh, Broadway’s most famous people go (go), for being famous doesn’t mean that you will get a good review, so Alec right and brandly if you wants that entertaining too. We’ve got magic to do…
(Music & magic break)
Bigger (bigger), that’s right it’s bigger (it’s bigger), I walking down the aisle with some Newsies in toe, ya know it’s bigger (it’s bigger), so much bigger (bigger), if there’s a Newsie you can firmly sup your no, you’ll get a Newsie in your gift bag when you go…
(Close up)
At the end of the day we are gathered together to honor the best and the brightest and tomorrow the fashion police will report on your dress and your orothontitus, if you win have the time of your life tell your manager, your dad, and your mom thanks.
ERAUPRCWA thank you. Thank you on behalf of everyone in this comment section.
ERAUPRCWA Did you really write this while hearing the song?😳💜
Absolutely! I must have watched this a 100 times. Such a mouthful and perfectly executed! Joyous.
.
can we all agree that the Genius that wrote the lyrics was Lin-Manuel Miranda? (he also wrote the closing rap as well)
To sit in a theater and watch these STARS at the end of the performance show such humility. Such appreciation...You realize that they are truly greatful to participate in such an awesome experience. Just as greatful as we are to be there enjoying every minute of it. Live theater... You just cannot compete with that. Absolute true, raw talent...
Thank you very much for posting this, I missed the show and am very thankful to you for taking the time to do the upload.

The 67th Tony Awards was the 47th and final time Elliot Lawrence would serve as musical director; he retired following this ceremony.

That opening number. Gets me every time.
Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote that one (and got himself an Emmy for it too along with Tom Kitt)
is there anything NPH CAN'T do?? I mean really!! Magic, acting, singing, dancing, comedy, tragedy... the man is gorgeous and TALENTED!
It's weird seeing the 1967 Tony Awards and then seeing this year's Tony Awards. If only NPH could live forever. Then he could host at least every other year! :)
