Alot of people say letting Turkey into Nato was a mistake. But if we didn't, they would already be at war with Greece. And Israel for that matter. It cuts both ways.
Israel has the 4th largest nuclear arsenal in the world, they don't need NATO to defend them.
Turkey is currently bombing Kurdistan
Russia asked to apply for NATO membership
They also demanded Veto power over the alliance and were denied.
@@avroarchitect1793sounds fair 😂
@@avroarchitect1793 So then why can the USA Vito power? The logic you people bring in astonishes me.
@JasonJafry Sure, let the new kid on the block decide what the friend group does over the friends that have been there the longest. It's called having seniority and understanding you're not the most important person in the room. "No third country has a veto over NATO enlargement," Secretary-General Anders Fogh. So what makes Russia so special as to get something not even the U.S. has?
@@Ch33seandWh1ne Are you a child? What type of a comparison is the "new kid on the block" or a "friend group"? These are two of the most powerful countries on earth. If you think a country like Russia or the United States will submit to a country that is hundreds of times weaker than it then that is foolish. Both countries deserve tremendous respect and have the power to back it up. The only point I can agree on is that no country has a veto over the NATO enlargement. Although it can be argued that US policies don't exactly entice other countries to disagree with its decisions. However, given that Russia greatly influences the world, NATO should have pushed for further negotiations. The USA does not want to share power. It's simple and makes sense, that's all this power struggle is.
Even if Ukraine were eligible to join it would be stopped by Hungary, Turkey or any other country sympathetic to Russia. All NATO members must agree to new members joining.
Orban has been advised that it could lose its voting right if it does not comply with either the EU or NATO. Its legal system has to be in accordance to international laws, which is not the case as of today. The EU has invoked article 7 of its constitution and is in the process of ousting Hungary. Orban can say goodby to the 23 billion Euros it holds to rebuild Hungary infrastructures which are in shamble.
@@YvanKorshinsky you're mixing up NATO and EU here, two different organisations who have nothing to do with each other apart from having some of the same members
TURKEY NOT BE.
Hungry has been advised by the NAT that it would lose its voting rights if it does not comply with international laws. The EU has invoked article 7 of its Constitution to oust Hungary and has taken its voting rights out until it comply with international law. The EU has implemented a 23 billion Euros to upgrade Hungary's infrastructures but Hungary will hot get a single Euro until it makes its country a viable partner, starting with its laws but also has conditioned Hungary with European standards which will take Orban to stop its mingling with Russia.
I think the point of the rhetoric is that it’s everyone saying that by the time the war _actually ends,_ most of the behind the scenes work will have been done in advance, and Ukraine (with whatever its borders are like by then) with thus join at THAT point. Joining the alliance isn’t going to do them well in THIS current conflict (apart from helping to manage its aftermath), but it WILL help deter future ones with Russia.
(Pro-Russian/Anti-Ukraine commenting can be pathetic elsewhere please and thank you)🇺🇦
Wow. WTF are you talking about? Based on what I read in your comment. You support Russia. Wich is fine. Freedom of speech, and all. But are you deliberately fucking up the Grammer. Or is English not your first language? Either way tighten up. You won't convince anybody,of anything, if you don't speak their lalanguage.
There are five main subjects (such as compliance with international laws) to join the alliance (NATO). Ukraine has reached two of them so far but will have to wait until the war is over before it could be recognized as a member.
That us bit democratic even if they write stupid comments as they have the same rights everybody have (comments that approve Russian's invasion are not in Russia as their Internet can't access the world wide internet since the beginning of the war. Most I checked were American with American names.
@@PeeTree-bx6lp I don't know what this subject has to do with the war in Ukraine though the Brits have lived under the Brexit for 4 yrs and realize it was a mistake. The British parliament could have to make another referendum but it will depend on which Party will win the next elections.
This guy has been blowing bubbles in his commentary since the very first day and has developed a following of deluded "hopes and wishes" children. He has been wrong about just about everything.
Ukraine is 50 or more years from being able to join NATO. Even if the population overwhelmingly agrred to unite and make joining NATO a national priority, it would take that long.
Every NATO member is going to require Ukraine to appear to be a stable, self sufficient country with control of its territory and no hint of any internal or external dispute that would potentially cause concern.
Ukraine aspires to be able to join NATO, regardless of if they actually do. Just being able to means that they are in a significantly better position than yhey have been at any time in history.
NATO is essentially a sovereign defense insurance program. You can't buy homeowners insurance while your house is on fire. You can't buy flood insurance while you are evacuating for a category 5 hurricane. You also cant be in the middle of a war and join NATO asking for help.
That said..... Kuwait was able to get the United Nations to enf the Iraqi invasion. The system worked that one time. Unfortunately, Russia has veto power at the UN so there is nowhere for Ukraine to go for help. The UN is meant to serve this role, not NATO.
I'd rather have Ukraine in NATO than Hungary.
Do your facts before you talk shit Ukraine lost this war and it’s all because of the far left they lost there beautiful country
Paul its not gonna change.
Russias behavior over the years has sealed up that gap nicely in nato alliances lol 😂
Russia applied for NATO but the FBI said no
Please stop lying. Russia never applied for NATO.
This is what happens when you let Vladimir Putin dictate your reality
Russia wasn't told no, they were told that if they wanted to apply, they should apply, and Russia dropped it.
Russia ASKED to apply, which you do not have to do. Then Russia never actually applied....you are clueless Russian bot or you simply just don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
Russia never applied, dude
I miss spoke, Putin asked Clinton about joining.
Cry me a FKN river 😂😂😂
Stop your nonsense propaganda
Paul, you choose to ignore the 2008 Bucharest Summit where western allies declared their intent that Ukraine and Georgia would join NATO.
That in itself would trigger Russia.
So? It's still Ukraine and Georgia's own choice to join Nato, nobody is putting a gun to Ukraine and Georgia's head and telling them to join.
If It was so easy to get Ukraine into Nato, why didn't they do it in 2008?
@@alexbrokholm4883 Look up the domino theory to explain expansionism. We fought wars on the other side of the globe to contain communism where the Russians want to stop NATO at their front door.
For that matter, look up the Monroe Doctrine. That was US policy for a long time.
@@sixgunsymphony7408 we are not in the cold war anymore. If the US is so hellbent on expansion, why has the US only (according to the Kiel institute) spent what amounts to 0,34 pct of their gdp on Ukraine?
@@sixgunsymphony7408 Then Putin and Medvedev should have told NATO that in the early 2000's when the bulk of Bloc states like Poland joined NATO. Instead they voiced their approval 🤔
Even as far as around 2010 Medvedev was still making pro-NATO/EU statements.
@@OVO_Blackface Russia tried to join NATO and was turned down. They found out that they were the target.
But NATO was surrounding Russia
GEE I WONDER WHY ALL ITS NEIGHBORS WANTED TO JOIN.
When you go outside and meet an a**hole, you've met an a**hole.
If you go outside and everyone you meet is an a**hole, guess who the a**hole is?
Nope. NOW they are surrounded by NATO.
Gee, I wonder why a whole lot of nations near a known aggressor, one with nukes, a definite, demonstrated policy of destabilising and taking over neighbours and being genocidal on those who wanted to keep their own culture, would want to join a mutual defence organisation...
@@OVO_BlackfaceI wonder why the war started then…
@@JasonJafry Because Russia thought they could get away with a little land grab. They almost did.
Because they're salty about losing the cold war.
Because they have an inferiority complex and need to prove their relevancy in the modern world.
Because starting a war is what dictators do to deflect attention.
Keep that copium coming Paul 😂
Pro-Russian trolls keep repeating the same talking points, at this rate we'll be out of copium soon 😂
The United States Vice President told Zelensky in front of press she wanted Ukraine to join. The U.S. has been orchestrating this for over a decade.
Russia did apply under Clinton or Bush 2. They were denied.
Wow you have opened my eyes to how much more powerful Joe Biden is than Putin. Biden forced Russia to invade and destroy their economy. Joe Biden is super powerful.
There's still rules to it, and any member can block it.
As seen with Sweden and Finland, when turkey only stopped it's blockade, when they got what they wanted.
@@patta8388 those are votes. They are not vetos.
@@davidbilich1708 yeah, because there are no vetos in the rules. All nations have equal power within the framework of NATO rules.

Cobbler: “a person who mends shoes as a job.” No ones talking about cobblers
I think it's very much written policy that you need to control your own territory.
I think you also have to eliminate corruption or at least show that you have working laws to prosecute those that are corrupt. Ukraine has come a long way from it's soviet era corruption but there's still some work to do.
Bullshit... there are many corrupted countries in NATO, even very corrupted...
Real world you need to be globally recognized as having a stable government, economy, democratic institutions and be self sufficient.
Evety existing member has to approve the applicant country. Each member has to answer to their citizens. That means the people in each member nation needs to be comfortable with the new member.
Sweden and Finland had trouble getting admitted.
It never changed just different fingers in the pot uproar lately when 60 million vanished
First and foremost, in 1991 Boris yeltsin asked to join nato and was denied. Open door policy to those willing to bend the knee to the west. Doesn’t matter if Ukraine was close to membership or not it was a threat to Russia just like Russia being a threat to the west when it’s in Cuba.
Giving Russia membership in NATO is silly. Russia is the reason why NATO was created in the first place.
That's funny. Thanks for the chuckle
No he didn't, he sent a letter saying it was a potential long term goal after the collapse of USSR. Putin in 2000 asked to join but wanted to skip the application process. NATO said no, you need to go through the application process. Russia never tried.
Hail Putin, Emperor of Mankind

Only European countries are allowed to have membership. Technically, 10% of Kazakhstan is in Europe, but its population is culturally Asian, so it's not clear that it would be allowed in.
