Music is ever changing. I personally am a fan of the tom work in the drum parts because it breaks up the monotony of just snare and hat parts. But, as you have mentioned, that in and of itself can get monotonous. haha

Long time drummer, now a days its so much tom work in worship music, whatever happened to high hat and snare?
