Hello from The Shire...When I was younger I lived in a town that had yearly airshows at the local airport. It wasn't very big, although it could handle the Boeing 737 short body if necessary. I was the manager of drivers for a little delivery company that shall remain nameless and one Friday the skies came alive with fighter jets and I had just made a pickup at one of our clients and as I finished my paperwork, at fighter flew over the lot I as setting in, I glanced at it, back at my paperwork and then it registered what I had seen...A Harrier had flown over the lot at about 100 ft. and traveling just above a walk...I jumped out of the truck and clambered up on the roof of said truck...I watched the Harrier come to a hover over the littler slough that ran into the bay. He then tilted his nose up and shot for the sky...Another of my drivers was there and asked me WTF that was...I looked at her and simply said " That. dear lady, was a Harrier Jump jet."...I can't wait for the Harrier in game...Thanks Odd, it made me jump back to the summer of 1987...I felt young again....lol...
@@OddBawZ I've been paying attention to where you shoot from how you position your vehicle and your funny sick makes paying attention easier my kids are pissed cause now I'm beating them in a tech race lol
By a long shot, you're the best AV8/Gr1 pilot of all the war thunder guys! You're killing them like you'd be a fine point-interceptor or air superiority dedicated fighter. OddBawZ + Harrier = seriously OP! Well done lad, so far you've shown us the right smart and skills to fly this tricky jet. VIFFING (Vectoring in Forward Flight) is possible here in turning tighter than if you only rely on wing loading and lift. It can lower turning circle like crazy. The drawback is energy loss, but guess what? This jet has a thrust to weight ratio that's the highest in the game at close to 1:1, so it does accelerate like mad, whenever you lose energy. It took a true Scot to show'em all! We're proud of you lad. Now go teach Steve, he needs faith and help (I'm only half kidding - he's wonderful!). More from you please!
The visuals are great. VIFF (vectoring in forward flight) is going to be a killer in this game! I can see popping up over a hill, or slideing sideways from behind a building and smashing tanks like no tommorrow. Great video, even the glitches were fun. o7
The Acceleration whilst possibly not 100% acurratte over the whole speed range is almost certainly quite accurate at low speed or from a standing takeoff. The Phantom in a typical full fuel but no ordnance state has a thrust to weight of only 0.85, and a maximum takoff weight that produces a Thrust to weight of about 0.52. The starfighter has about the same max load value. The Harrier is 0.85 at max takeoff weight, and any config that can do a vertical takeoff is greater than 1.0, (meaning with the thrust vector to straight forward you should be able to stand it on it's tail and climb straight vertical without any fear of stalling). A config like what you where messing with, with the SRAAM's has a thrust tow eight slightly in excess of 1.1.
I don't play top tier (yet) but do helicopters have FARPs closer than the airfield to the action? If so, bomb trucking in a Harrier would be awesome. That's the main way I play with the Harrier in DCS, using my speed as a jet to do quick bomb truck strikes but vertical landing ability to get quick rearms at FARPs.
Odd, in IRL that's a combat landing. Big birds like the c130 will do a similar maneuver of tight turns in combat zones to bleed speed and rapidly drop to the runway. Was only ever a passenger (Army) so I don't know the specifics of it, but it's a thing! And btw, as a passenger in the back of a c130... It's violent!
The Harrier makes me the big happy. So goddamn happy it’s in game, I missed it :’) And I don’t even care if it ruins the meta, I don’t care about the meta, I just care that the Harrier is here and that she looks amazing and, more importantly, fun :D
sure ... except it will get uptiered to face Phantoms and Mig21 SMT (and very soon BiS) 9/10 times you take it out xD people thinking they will be clubbing 8.7s in this thing will get a pretty rude reality check very quickly ...
I don't know if they have it in simulator mode but the harrier could only hover below a set speed for roughly 90 seconds. The engine needs more than just the air it sucks in to stay cool so in order to allow the aircraft to hover the aircraft has a water tank. This tank is rather limited as anything larger would add to much weight to the aircraft. This means the Harriers ability to hover is largely limited to the time it takes to use all the water to cool the engines. This does change though with air density and the effect of ambient temperature on the engines themselves. As this affects the ability of the engines to disperse heat without the aid of the water and decreases the rate the temperature inside the engines increases.

Good one for grinding SL too. Just keep in mind the tech tree and American Harrier's likely won't have SRAAMS, since they where only fitted to the GR1 as a proof of concept irl.
@@buschacha My guess is that they'll do the same thing they did for the British Jaguar which could also carry the 9L's. They said that the all aspect 9L's where too powerful for the game currently, and apart from the new mig, they've not added anything to advance top tier from then, so I'd expect the 9G's for Britain and the 9J's for America. That means that with the more powerful engines and better missiles, the American ones will likely be better than the British tech tree variant, and although technically better than the GR1 too, which has the weakest engines of them all, I think that one will end up being the best performing statistically due to lower BR and the SRAAM's.
