Leon's DIY Kite Reel

Whenever the wind is good, and there's no need for a deep sky launch, it's nice to fly your kite with a hand held hoop. It's reliable and there's virtually no chance of any mechanical failure. My winder of choice is the Capstan Ring Caster manufactured by Alvey and Son. It's design assists rapid deployment as well as somewhat sloppy retrieval. That's why it's favoured by kite fighters. Anyway, I've taken a very good product and have made some modifications to the equipment. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Great video. One question:
How is the skate wheel connected to the wooden dowel in the center of the winder? I see that there is no hardware coming out the other side of the dowel, so are you replacing the axle of the skate wheel with some kind of wood screw?
Also, one small suggestion for next time: It would be helpful to see the inside surface of the reel (under the wound-up line), where the hardware attaches through the side of the reel.

Just about any shop that sells fishing equipment should have them,btw we call them handlines (when used for fishing in australia) but capstan ring is an alternate.
