  • For Dave Hopper, General Secretary of the Durham Miners' Association, who died on 16th July 2016, just a week after the 132nd Durham Miners' Gala. The week before the Gala Dave attended the IBMT annual commemoration at Jubilee Gardens in London and gave a short interview part of which is included in the video.
    Marlene Sidaway, President of the IBMT said. "Dave was a good and generous friend to us. We had our AGM in the Miners' offices [Hall] in October 2009 when we also unveiled a plaque to the volunteers from Durham." Rodney Bickerstaff, an IBMT patron, described Davey Hopper - a great socialist
    Dave Hopper: b. 8th April 1943 - d. 16th July 2016.
    'The Internationale' is played by the Penrith Town Band and was recorded in front of the balcony of the County Hotel this year; Dave was of course amongst those gathered on the balcony to hear the bands and raised a clenched fist salute as they played the last verse.
