Literally every training method has days of "welp can't keep their attention." It says absolutely nothing bad about R+. It actually tends to say that R+ truly does allow the freedom it says it gives. Zoë is a fabulous horse, and you are a marvelous trainer. Sometimes the best laid plans! I hope Twinkie gets a fantastic home soon. I wish I could add him to my chestnut squad😂
I really appreciated seeing this. I relate to your frustration about your session with Zoe not going as planned. I bought an OTTB 4 months ago and we have a lot of unsuccessful clicker training sessions because he is really tense in the indoor arena especially when it's windy and we can't work outside because of the weather. Winter is really kicking my ass this year. lol. We're still making progress but it's slow and it sucks when I can't work on what I had planned for the day because my horse is checked out. Oh well, that's sometimes the reality of giving horses a choice and I'd rather slow progress with a happy horse.
Luckily, I've been waiting for almost 30 years to get into the Equestrian sport, so motivation isn't exactly an issue right now. Like, it's literally dumping rain outside and I'm praying my one riding day this week is still in the schedule. 😂 Love you, Jill! Keep on keeping on! One off day doesn't make a career, thank goodness. ;)
I feel you with no motivation to ride. I honestly have had no fun riding in years, but I still want a horse in my life. Thinking I might roll over to driving with my Quarter horse, I'm not sure yet. Gonna do some more stuff with the pony before I make a decision on that. Kshsisnd
If you use scrubbing bubbles on the saddle it is a mold inhibitor and then you can use the neets foot oil over it and it won’t keep turning white from mold Saddle soap and mink oil degrade the stitching on the saddle. Learned this from a saddle maker and restorer
OMGOSH I WISH I COULD BUY TWINKIE!!! But my parents can’t afford a horse right now but I’m doing hunter jumper and Twinkie would be the perfect horse for me😫 love you Jill your doing great with Zoe 😊
I used to work a horse with bridle lameness, it is really hard. You just have to very gently bring them on and they go lame every time they are not correct in to "frame" or over the back. I found lots of long and low work help heaps and I got in to art2ride which really helped. If the horse is really lame you can still work them in hand long and low. Happy riding 😀
Thank you Jill because I wasn't feeling motivated today and it helps to hear that you have those days too. I agree if you get out there and start doing something it works its way out. I think u answered your own question as to why Zoe was distracted today! Weather is a big factor especially when they haven't seen the Sun for a while and then it's sunny and windy, forget it! I just put them away😂
Training suggestion: (I train multiple animals at one time) Teach each horse their own target or station and have them "Station" during the training session. Reinforce (Click/reward) for longer periods of time. While working with one horse, be sure to reinforce the other horse for stationing. Kind of like "Place" command with dogs. The station can be mobile, either a mat, a colored cone, or a frisbee you can tie to the fence, etc.
There's something called "rein lame" and that's exactly what it sounds like, tiger has the same thing. If she's restricted by the rein she tenses up and appears lame. If you give her back the rein and she relaxes and works over her back she's suddenly sound again. AMAZING how that works 😆 horses don't like to be scrunches together, SHOCKER lol
Just want to say I love you so much, your so incredibly inspiring and have helped me keep faith in the natural horsemanship world. Your so positive and genuine and I can’t get enough of your videos! 😩💗
i let my horses out every day but it’s been so cold lately but where I live we’ve been getting some nice weather every few days. if it’s warm and not going to rain i let them spend the night out. Last night it was going to drop in temperature and going to rain so I was going to put them up. my 2 horses wouldn’t come up so I had to walk and turns out my ottb is deathly afraid of deer. So as I was walking across the field he was at the top of the hill looking at me like I was a idiot and a bunch of deer ran across the field and he want buck wild, Ive never seen him buck or squeal like he did lol he looked like a stallion. I’m just glad he’s learning how to be a horse.
I saw you are wearing a new vocations jacket!! I love new vocations and when I get my own horse in the future I plan on getting him/her from new vocations!!
i’m in a situation haha. soooooo i broke my ankle and had surgery about a month ago. and i haven’t been able to ride for maybe 2 months (i has the flu for a week after christmas then broke my leg the day i got over it) sooo should i show this year. i’m also starting up english from western for 3 years, should i stay in western for awhile or go to english? and how much should i ride on my first ride back.
I love this video! and don't worry I went through a stage like that too when I didn't want to ride I just didn't really feel like it even though I did know how to ride and enjoyed it but I was just unmotivated 🤔 but I love the clicker training I've been doing it with my horse for the past couple months!!! I've seen a lot of improvement with him. Thanks for this video Jill ❤️😘
i had that “i dont like to ride rn” phase too this winter. bc my horse dont like the indoors arena so its very hard to have a good time indoors. and noww its a lot better outside so I can ride outside again. and I ride almost every day now
I’ve lost motivation to ride 2 but I still do it just to check the fence line 😕 idk if it’s just the weather or what. I mean ig riding is riding and my horse enjoys it and my pony tags along but I’ve just lost it.
I hear ya! Especially when you can't get out to really RIDE consistently. I feel like I don't do enough riding because I HATE I repeat, HATE riding in a pasture :( And let's be honest, you can't practice on the road... and there's only so much I can do out when out on a trail (which doesn't happen all that often). With that said I really want to build an outdoor Just need to start actively saving and researching.
I love you Jill and everything you stand for, and maybe it was the camera angle, but I saw at the beginning you had Zoe's lead over your shoulder. I would be suuuuper careful with that if I were you because if Zoe spooked, the lead could snap around your neck and who knows what could happen. A high level rider in the UK had her neck snapped (and she passed away) because she had the lead around her shoulders and the horse spooked and took off. Just please be careful
I'm so happy you didn't get 3 feet of snow because you can make videos, and the only thing to do in Nebraska during a snowstorm is UA-cam, so here I am. What with the stupid amount of snow outside lol
Do not own a horse but find your advice interesting. my daughter is your age. also a leebra you remind me of her and wish she could ride to build confidence
Gosh, I’d say not always getting a perfect response is the very spirit of positive reinforcement (not that I’m an expert). Freedom of choice is a gift of respect that builds trust; therefore by granting her freedom when she desires it you’re earning her trust in the future. Two cents! :)
Nope. They do that if you're not monetized, usually, so the artist can claim and get money off your video with ads. If you are making money on your videos though it can be a big problem.

I may or may not have cried when you gave advice about losing motivation. Very helpful, sending love💗💗

Soundcloud & Jamendo are good sources of music that you can use commercially. Love your vids as always ❤️
I’ve lost motivation to ride 2 but I still do it just to check the fence line 😕 idk if it’s just the weather or what. I mean ig riding is riding and my horse enjoys it and my pony tags along but I’ve just lost it.

I think the large dumor pellets were discontinued at TSC. ): I can’t find the large ones anywhere!!
Other equestrians: I’m tired of riding
Me: I never get tired of it!!!!!!

Wish I still lived in Tx so I could bring Twinkie into my fold 😩 he’s seems like such a sweet boye!
Only Jill would buy an Adidas bag and stuff it with treats 😂😂
I can do relate to not wanting to ride all the time. It’s a struggle when it’s what you do as a job tho.
Omg please close the refridgerator
Dore If you're not using the fridge 😩😖 its such a cringe for me haha. I can feel all the cold air getting out
Notification Squad! ⭐️
So jealous you can get the BIG alfalfa pellets from TSC. Working on it up here, but it's slow.

Will you ride Zoey again?
Luv u soooo much!!!!🤩 like if U agree
Ugh I would 100% buy Twinkie but he’s literally on the other side of the country 😭
love the fanny pack 😍😂
How come you keep getting copyrighted? I thought UA-cam just links to the artist below and then everything is fine?
Nope. They do that if you're not monetized, usually, so the artist can claim and get money off your video with ads. If you are making money on your videos though it can be a big problem.
How many horses do you work with
Hi Jill, I emailed you about Wistow because my barn manager is looking for a pony, and also am interested in the palomino mare. Hope you see this.
Your so pretty😍
What breeches were you wearing?
What's the song in your intro?
Pause at 12:08
That's everything!😅
Check out no copyright melodies
Hello my dream job is exactly what you do and i was wondering what gses you need and what colfcations you need to do a job like this.
😍😍👏
Does anyone know places to get cheap but good quality sun shirts or just short sleeve riding shirts
Do you have a tiny house.?
Do you ride Zoe anymore? Or is she still recovering?
Still recovering, and her training style is different now so she's working on rebuilding cues.
You should roach Zoë’s mane again!
Can someone tell me what alfalfa treats she uses?
Hey I am going to do a barn vlog look up Niko Dahlke
