Vin Diesel is actually a pretty interesting guy. His first short film Multi-Facial is on YT for free, it's really good. Having seen that it doesn't surprise me that he has an interest in films like Whitnail and I. If roles like xXx and Dom Toretto hadn't taken over his career, I'm sure he would've been in far more indie projects. Who knows, maybe that's what old age will have in store for him
He’s a very intelligent dude, he just plays the brute role because it gets him paid, his first film that got him his saving private Ryan role, was a really cool and serious take on casting and how being mixed race can make it difficult to get cast not being black enough or white enough to play either role and instead getting forced into things that weren’t true to himself. It’s very good, he also wrote and directed the short film himself because of said difficult getting casted
