agreed. he does steal the show. martin freeman, kathy burk, rick parfitt and billy bragg were also memorable in other episodes but as far as regulars go the show wouldn't be the same without michael kitchen. his character's so down to earth compared with the pompous brian pern. much prefer brian pern to any of the other characters simon day's created
You're totally not alone, lol!!! I was like, Detective Chief Superintendant! Foyle!!! As Sam would say, not quite "all proper and correct, sir". It really just did nor compute, at all, then I rewatched him in Reckless, all four parts (1997-98), and it helped get me over the initial trauma.....somewhat.
Love Kitchen's put on East London accent. I could listen to him say "waterfall" all day long - and the look he gives Day at the end of that line........brilliance!
Rhys Thomas is a comedy genius. Hilarious mocking of the awkward Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour meeting.. Great stuff. I love the way the the whole Brian Pern / Thotch world gently mocks progressive rock, particularly Peter Gabriel. Yet Gabriel himself contributed some ridiculous stories to be used in the show and also appears. All that said, despite chuckling at some of prog rock's silliness, it's also done with respect. I think the balance is just right.
A Year in The Life of Brian Pern Part One 1148am 10.8.23 i have been enjoying the wild man of prog, brian. and the brief cameo by his nibs the meister was a kow-tow moment in musical history - old PG showing he aint he too big for his boots or his zimmer or whatever those things are called they scoot about on... not much to say about Bri, really. he is what he is, a thing in himself... a phenomenon in his own lunch time, even. the last word should always go to him, to Bri, else you just lose the magic and the jest... intentionally or no. p.s sadly, though, not one mention of the title of the song which started all this: Supper's Ready. whether black white yellow or off piste - you all need a bit of Supper.... in your life. n.b the resurgence of young havers over there, without the slightest twinkle or inking of bemusement, has been refreshing.... and he should do more comedy... cheers!! and, no doubt, more burds...
The very first time I happened on Brian Pern, I was totally sucked in... Pern World is a great place to go when in need of some lightness and joy... just love everything I can find!
so funny, love brian, one of the great comedy characters and i would put him on the same shelf as john shuttleworth who i also think is a fantastic character.
Michael Kitchen, brilliantly mimics many managers in the Industry, with a combination of reality, sarcasm and indifference towards a deeply deluded and ego driven artist-always makes me laugh.
Hilarious show, so well written and acted. 👏
This is so fecking funny. Love Peter Gabriel so much this is brilliant.
I love Michael Kitchen ❤ he's adorable.
I love Michael Kitchen in this - completely steals the show :-)

Michael Kitchen is a fabulous Shakespearean actor and housewive's fave as Foyle. But this is his greatest thespian dream. I love his potty mouth!
Me too. I get the feeling he is loving every minute of it :-)

@@rosiet2468 Agreed but it's not a Day creation

not an East End accent - sorry
Really? Then what?
He is not comfortable with the accent - I'm afraid .
it's just a London accent definitely not East London.
It is his normal accent!
The bee recording had me chortling out loud...love it!

'Denise Neilson was a big fan of Level 42 but you can't blame Mark King for that!' 🤣😂😂 OMG id forgotten how funny this was. It's brilliant.

Fantastic
BRILLIANT! BRILLIANT! BRILLIANT!

Perfectly put.
He's brilliant as I imagine a music manager to be.
LOL :) Best comedy I've seen in ages.Hope they do more...
+Darryl Wyn Williams agreed... The final scene in the car last week made me fall of the couch I was laughing that much
Oh my god the meeting with his former bandmate: same vibes as in the actual Genesis meeting in 2014.
Foreshadowing much?
2.54 love the Gilmour Waters reference
God, I love his Gabrieleque wailing at 0.25 lol
Those particularly strong roll-ups can be lethal!
Tutu, father. Tutu, warrior.
Can the whole version of Desmond Tutu song be heard somewhere?
He's based this character on Peter Gabriel he even sounds like him.
Ha, I'm here because just watched a vid Gabriel's latest tour (impressive tbh) and thought 'crikey, he's sounding more and more like Brian Pern' :D
Well yeah, obviously. You're stating the obvious.
Does anyone know why Peter Gabriel actually has this accent?
Because he's pretentious. 😄
He does sound like Peter Gabriel though.
@@johnnyboy2k Peter Gabriel isn’t pretentious, he’s one of the most grounded artists out there
Brilliant comedy.
are they having a lark?
😂😂😂😂😂 Waters and Gilmour 😂😂😂 2.57
The Tomliboos; you have to be a parent to get that one 😂
"sadly, Sting declined for obvious reasons"
I'm ashamed to say it took me two goes to get that one. I'm an idiot, much like Bob Geldof's daughter. Sadly, that's a joke which hasn't aged well.
Poor Peter Gabriel lol
Where's his accent meant to be from?! Sounds like a mix of Jack charlton, prince Charles and Steve mclaren when he went all Dutch!!
+ShitAbysss Search for any interview with Peter Gabriel and you'll find that Simon Day's imitation is more or less spot on accurate
ShitAbysss haha Steve McClaren when he went all Dutch! !! Thanks for reminding me of that gem!!! Gonna watch that after this video...!
@@aidansmyth6480 It is spot on.
Only watched because it had Michael Kitchen. The rest.... Ehhh
Me too!
Me too, I just love Michael Kitchen.
What the eco is this ? The best bit was about the bees - that was good
Rest ?
