- Dr. Hilary Blumberg of Yale University School of Medicine presented "The Brain Circuitry of Bipolar Disorder: A View from Brain Scanning Research" at the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation International Mental Health Research Symposium in 2017. Dr. Blumberg received the 2017 Foundation Colvin Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Mood Disorders Research.
It would have been nice to see the screen.
Right!?! Damn
Seriously rude!
It seems it it is deliberately done not to show the video. Though medical science is highly advanced, there are various powerful companies with covert agenda that's what's most frightening.
@@sanm2010 from a video production standpoint, it seems likely they didn't have a feed from the computer to the switcher. Or the camera operator didn't have a tilt-appropriate tripod.
It seems more likely than the conspiracy of scientific institutions hiding publicly accessible information 🤭
That’s what I’m here for. Sheesh
how annoying for those of us suffering a life of this disease that the camera person was so foolish to not show us the accompanying slides Dr Blumberg has worked so hard to present!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This usually happens …not sure why they do not show slides…why bother…no way to get to the studies…maybe they are selling books
Took the words out of my mouth.
I was waiting for it till the end of the video...as I am bipolar person too
Disease? Brain Leukemia!
It would have been helpful when the slides are prominently shown and a small screen on one corner showing the speaker.
I was prescribed Lithium and almost killed me , literally. You have to be very careful if you take Lithium
Yes, Where are the whiteboard???
@@elenamontesinogonzalez2700 Yeah, you're supposed to get blood tests every 3-6 months.
Is there maybe another video with the slides?
The lecture is very good but it would have been very helpful to see the screen.
Great presentation, but it would have been so helpful to also see the visuals.
I am really thankful that wonderfully brilliant people like her and her team are doing research to make the lives of people like me with bipolar disorder better, and doing good science to improve how we target treatments for these illnesses.
I would say BBRF could have edited this presentation with the slides she's describing.
Me too. I’ve grown so broken because because of this disease
This is somewhat hopeful for finding bio markers for diagnosis. I wish the symptoms (what are referred as behaviors and moods) were described as brain symptoms.
There is so much emphasis on moods being someone’s choice in general or because something happened in their life. Bipolar “moods” are not a choice but most of the general public doesn’t get that.
Behavioral implies it’s a persons choice or flaw and not the result of an organ in their body not working properly. There has to be a better way to talk about the symptoms.
I have Bipolar Disorder and I am an electrical engineer. I refer to my behavioral disruptions as signal to noise(SNR) errors corrupting sensory perceptions (sound, visual, touch, integration , etc) or corrupting thought processing if I am alone in my thoughts. These errors cause inappropriate behavioral responses. It bows to the higher energy I feel throughout my body when manic. I believe these are higher energy levels in the calcium ion transport.
Well explained and I am computer science engineer and bipolar
Very informative. Now if someone could explain all this in plain English, it would be appreciative. I need to understand this about my son. It would also have been nice to see the slides, as well.
Wrong channel. Try Dr. Tracey Marks. ua-cam.com/play/PLazcP3-djRZ0IoYFWgkl0_tFtBVqA3bu-.html
@@GenoFast- Interesting.
Kinda need the slides to see what her entire talk is about...why no slides??? So frustrating..now I'm depressed and angry.
Such an important matter without showing the slides. I wonder why
Idiot doesn't know how to pan the camera.
Maybe to make us have an "episode" because it pisses me off, that the camera doesn't show the screen!!
I use to do videography and trust me, the guy was probably an inspiring filmmaker and was not thrilled to be recording this or he's a intern that's just doing his job at a minimum
Thank you so much! Being diagnosed with bipolar disorder myself, it is extremely helpful to have this kind of research and information to try and make sense of it. I have had helpful treatment which I am grateful for, but it’s so much easier to accept the diagnosis with more physical evidence like this lady discusses.
did they make you an fMRI to diagnose your bipolar disorder?
@@mpadilla2804 No. I wish!
There is no clinical test for bipolar. It's all based on symptoms and an interview with a psychiatrist. Scientists hope one day we will have a brain scan or some other test to make diagnosis more absolute.
please, if you are viewing the comments, upload the video with the presentation, or at least give a link for us to view the presentation. would be really helpful for me and others who are trying to survive this.
Am I missing something? Like, the actual slides?
Thank you!
What a fabulous talk. | am diagnosed with bipolar, and have a right frontal lobe lesion.
Remarkably informative and resourceful presentation; however, it would've been extremely helpful (not to mention logical and practical) to have place the camera on her visual prompts so that we aren't forced to use our creative imaginations. lol
I agree. I’m still thinking what kind of idea was in the mind of the person that was recording the event
I think they liked the lady more
Does this woman have a family member with bipolar or something because I could feel her emotion made me cry
Amazing work ! So helpful !
Link to another of her presentations, with slides. ua-cam.com/video/A-hEI9QwqjI/v-deo.html
Thank you for the above link
Could we get a link to the presentation please?
Yes please
Yes please. Provide the presentation.
This had a lot of new information that I was able to connect to my own life and experiences. Thank you so much for dedicating your life to help people like me ❤
How do we see the graphics? Seems like they are the essence of this information along with the talk-over.
is there any research paper they published?
We cannot see any of the slides demonstrated, and the discussion about them is senseless without the visual display!
Are the slides available anywhere??
It would have helped to have the video show the slides.
So sad that we dont see the pictures
Love how she's dressed 👌
I read that injury sustained during birth, particularly when forceps are used, could also cause bipolar and even schizophrenia.
Oh my goodness. My son had the marks / indentations of forceps for a month afterwards
So we gotta pay to see these slides???
What is this my third grade play filmed by my dad with a camcorder? “Academia” couldn’t work a camera to include slides?
Is there a reason to suppress the slides .? Can those be reproduced on another view.
LOL What happened to the other camera? I want to see the slides!
Show the slides :(. Great lecture but I wanna see the screen and the pictures. It’s just PowerPoint.
Can’t see the slides!
Who has done the video recording of this lecture? 😅 Totally missed the focus
The mindfulness book "30 Days to Reduce Depression" by Harper Daniels is a good resource.
So many connections here. The brain develops down up inside out. I wonder if the amygdala being heighten is specific to genetics. Considering, it is fully developed at birth. However, your prefrontal cortex would be one of the last things to develop and your environment would largely affect that. Not to mention, it's not fully developed until age 25.
#BiologicalSensitivitytoContext
I wish she could have seen the screen. Good lordt
It would be nice if we could see the slides as well.
Do you all think one day will come out with the cure of bpd ?
Gene therapy I think is the only full cure, as against treatment IMO
WHAT ABOUT THE LIVER
Guys!!! Here's the video you wanna watch: ua-cam.com/video/A-hEI9QwqjI/v-deo.html
It's the same presentation but with the slides in full view
As a M.H clinician of 45 years in psychosis , i have heard and witnessed thousands of delusions ,they all sound like the person is in a dream like /nightmare state .What if psychosis is where the dream switch does not swith off correctly ?
Cant see shit. Thanks for irritating my concentration. perfect for someone like me.
I believe that Bipolar, like any other defects, can be caused by in vitro if the mother has experienced extreme stress or trauma, alcohol, drugs etc. To me it makes sense that if Down’s syndrome, spina bifida, an in vitro baby could equally be affected regarding brain functioning and chemical make up. I believe the same with children with Adhd, particularly if there are no symptoms or family history. It is definitely caused by something other than just genetical. My other thoughts are that if DID, BPD and other mental illnesses, if as a child the person has experienced trauma, it also could cause a rewiring of the brain and brain development. If as a child you can create alters to help the child cope with the trauma they are experiencing, during that period similar trauma could also affect a child’s brain development.
No because bpd is a personality disorder and bipolar is not, it is a mood disorder and functions very differently. It's not usually caused by trauma.
Also spina biguda and downs syndrome are thought to mostly be genetic as well so....
@@bonniegomez5333 actually I suggest you research peer reviewed journals on the matter and you will find a lot of evidence I am correct. I also never mentioned BPD. Not everything is based on genetics and a lot more evidence has been found that trauma suffered by the mother can create similar neurological changes in vitro to the baby, if not more so since the brain is literally developing, as trauma induced neurological changes outside vitro.
@@bonniegomez5333 and it’s spina bifida
@@braveheart7203 no I suggest you research because you will find that down syndrome as well as the other things you listed aside from personality disorders are genetic or caused by genetic mutation not related to trauma. I think you may need a therapist because you absolutely mentioned bpd, you may need to reread.
This video.is useless to.me if I can't see the screen
I regret all my bipolar medication. The drugs are much worse than the disorder.
Yeah antipsychotics and mood stabilizers taken years together
The slides were not in the videos -- poorly made presentation.
WHERE IS THE SLIDE!!!!???? come on camera man.
MY BRAIN 🧠 IS ALLERGIC MY FUCKIN BLOOD . 🤦🏽♂️
None of this really matters or will ever help because the stigma associated with bipolar is so deep in our society that people cannot ever rise above it, EVEN IF CURED.
Even if you manage to learn how to thrive (despite this disease,) you’ll still be knocked back down by family and “friends” who find out. They will insist on stigmatizing you, simply because of the label, WHICH U WILL NEVER LIVE DOWN.
This is the main reason people choose suicide. Ask any handicapped person what is harder: Living with the illness, or coping with the people around them who treat them like lepers?
And don’t fool yourself that lithium is the answer. It dulls the personality, makes you fat, and basically flat lines your emotions. You become a shadow of who you were. This is why most people don’t want to take it. And it doesn’t work at all for about 50% of the people.
There are worse things than taking yourself out of the world. Living a life of ridicule and being ostracized by family and “friends” is a fate worse than death.
At least on the other side, you will emerge disease-free, in a beautiful realm where you are accepted and loved. This life is just a blip on the souls journey and soon we will all be together anyway. None of the letters after your name or the money in your bank account will matter at that point. All that will matter is what was true, how you treated others, including the “least” of these, and how much you loved. I know my conscience is clear.
Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine....good grief. Please take coucou pills now. You'll be much more fun.😁
