Couple issues here: -Aluminum fittings on SS cable causes dissimilar metal issues down the road. -doubled up fittings are wasteful, but I suspect they've done this to combat the fatigue and wear issues of aluminum vs stainless fittings. -thimbles are CHEAP, why not use em where possible? Otherwise your tests looked well done and thorough.
Hi, thanks for sharing your feedback. These things aren't mine, but from what I know, the guy making these is looking from the standpoint of these things lasting for at least a season or more, meaning they're meant to be replaced (or disposable). Not the stud (which can be reused), but the swaged cable part. So galvanic corrosion isn't a concern for them.----I think some canyons here can have extreme conditions during heavy rains, and some anchors can get damaged, so they're looking for a low investment option. Maybe another canyoner here in Taiwan could follow-up more, cause I don't canyon here. ----Also I think they intentionally didn't want to use a thimble because a more narrow bend radius was needed to sandwich the cable end between the washers so it doesn't pop out the bolt. I suppose they could still use a thimble, but they'd need even more wider washers.
