Very nice. have you ever seen a Sears router Crafter? They make spirals really nice and much easier. What did you do to make a pepper mill out of it? With it being hollow inside what helps the pepper?

I’ve always made barley twists by hand to keep my hand skills sharp. However, as I get older the router method does seem more appealing. It’s a major time saver and they come out perfect every time. With this pepper mill the base twisted off to add more pepper. With later versions there’s a clear tube that runs through the center.

Why do you rest the tool on top of the wood when your turning? You’re quite talented! Thank you for sharing your expertise. 🙂

It’s to check whether the wood is fully a cylinder without having to stop the lathe. If the wood has flats the tool will bounce and the vibration will be loud. If the wood is a cylinder the tool will rest smoothly on it.
