- There are other bestselling authors, but few can legitimately claim that they reinvented a literary genre. By blending the supernatural with the gothic, Anne Rice’s first novel, Interview with the Vampire, did just that. The Vampire Chronicles created both a cult following and great mainstream success. Rice is the author of over thirty books, ranging in topics and genres from religion to erotica. Collectively, her books have sold nearly 100 million copies, making her one of the most widely read authors in modern history. In her latest novel, Prince Lestat: The Vampire Chronicles, Rice once again summons up the irresistible spirit-world of the undead, including the dazzling, dangerous rebel-outlaw - the great hope of the undead - Prince Lestat.

Love this lady !
i love lestat. The making of Lestat into a vampire was a reading experience i shall never forget. They say Lovecraft found inspiration in his nightmares. Anne must have found hers in sweet dreams. That whole book "the prince Lestat" felt as a dream to me." Im serious . Freud mist out on some important stuff.
Names like "Armand".. "Claudia".. and.. "Louis" are fairly common (French) names.
But the only time I have ever heard or seen the name "Lestat" is from Anne's 'Vampire Chronicles'.
Anybody know where the inspiration for his name came from??
Apparently, it was a typo. She meant to write the name "Lestan" (I think that's the correct spelling), but she spelled it wrong, admitting recently that maybe it was a way of avoiding confronting the fact that Lestat was based on her late husband, Stan Rice. Thus, a legendary character and series was born.
