Even then, it didnt get widely popular until the mid-30s. The big dances (and matching music) in the 20s would be the Charleston, The Shimmy, Black Bottom, Foxtrot, Tango, and Waltz.
For anyone playing this new years eve for the countdown: I did the math and did a couple practice runs to make sure it lines up. The moment any crowd should be shouting "HAPPY NEW YEAR" happens at 4:38 in this song. To get it to line up you should start playing this song at exactly 11:55:22 that's eleven fifty-five and twenty-two seconds. It works with a countdown from 10. You don't have to take my word for it, you can run a test run like this. The song is just under five minutes, so it's easiest to run it on a five minute offset. For example you could start playing it at 1:15:22 and the clock would turn 1:20:00 at just the right time in this song. Have fun and happy new year!
