Excellent video Josh. They say "you something new every day" and that's what happened to me. Thanks for all the effort you put into sharing your experiences.
Well done Josh. I've been following all of your lessons learned videos. I really appreciate you taking the time to pass on the hard-won knowledge, to save the rest of us pain and expense. Thank you!
I’m getting my first baby chicks this summer and I can’t wait! I’ve been watching so many of your videos so I can learn how to raise them. Thank you so much and great video!!!
yep...there's an innumerable number of "crazy hippie" "western medicine" vids out there treating their chicks with medications....ridiculous suggestions....over handling and simply poor advice on raising chicks .....it's not that simple...just warm, clean, food and water...it is simple....and we don't need to over think it....if you raise baby chicks...you will have some die...it's just the way it goes when raising birds
Thank you- these are *advanced tips,* for me! 😁 Just brought home my first 4 pullets today! As I bought them at Rural King, there's wasn't a large selection of breeds. But, I went with the Cinnamon Queens, and I got the older batch (hatched 4/27)- not because they were cheaper, but because I figured they had proven themselves hearty! Can't wait to see your pheasants! How exciting!!
Hey Josh! Sounds like these birdsl will be a great addition to your set up! I hope that you can get them established and flourishing! Best of luck with them!
Thank you for sharing this! Love watching your channel and farm life. 🚜 🐣 I'm hatching my second batch of chicks and can't wait, they're due March 21st. My rooster is doing a fabulous job fertilizing all the girls for me 🐔 It's so much fun hatching your own chicks from your own flock.
Good morning Josh, Thanks for another interesting video. I think that is great you are trying to introduce pheasant to your farm, wishing you success. Just curious, do you have any quail on the farm? Good Job, WOOOOO! 👍
I don't know how you're doing it dude. I am happy for your success, -I know it isn't all gold, and I'm sorry for that. I won't forget you in prayer. Sincerely, I can't help but think, but by the grace of God there go I. -In respect to household 6.
Hi.... Josh nice to see you love watching your videos, thank you for showing your video homestead chickens duck farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐣🐥🐕🐐🐄🐖🐝🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
I don't want to rain on your parade but I used to work for the DNR in Indiana for 22 years. We had a pheasant release every winter the one's that weren't harvested would not have a very good survival rate pen raised birds don't have the instincts to avoid predators like the wild ones. Good luck 👍
Probably do lots better with a flock of Guinea Fowl if you want them to stick around your farm. Strongly suggest you keep the pheasants penned up. Chukars are fun to raise also. You can sell your live pheasants and chukars to hunt clubs for additional income.
You should try 50/50 mix of Lysterine and water in spray bottle. Spray eggs liberally and allow to dry naturally. No need to wipe. Also, use the Listerine spray to disinfect the inside of your incubator before putting eggs in. I have done side by side comparisons with and without spraying eggs. Out of 40 guinea fowl eggs of each method, 23 keets hatched from the uncleaned eggs and 33 of the cleaned eggs hatched. It was a significant improvement. I repeated the test again and this time I put 20 of each in separate incubators (40 total eggs in each incubator) and had similar results, except my treated eggs went up to 35 keets. I now hatch exclusively with Listerine and usually achieve about a 90% hatch rate.
Hmmm... Dino eggs? Ostrich Eggs? Elephant bird eggs? Dodo eggs? Passenger pigeon eggs? Since you said we would never guess what kind of eggs it had to be something extinct... (or very exotic like the ostrich eggs...) -- Edit -- I made the comment before watching the video based only on the TITLE.... 😀
why would you risk putting it outside...not like it takes up alot of space...I wouldn't put it outside due to temperature fluxuations and risk of wind, rain or predators eating them
yeppers...gotta buy your hatching eggs from a reputable place if you want better hatch rates.....hatch count was only 2...disappointing but they are still entertaining and doing well
you put the eggs in the incubator.....on the auto turner, keep water inside and nothing happens for 20 days my friend....that's why you didn't see "whole process" because that is the whole thing lol....they just turn for 21 days and hatch
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Was wondering if you have to add any water during the process or just once in the beginning and that's it. I've also seen where people take out the turning trays at like day 18 so the chicks can hatch.
Does North Carolina have regulations about raising and releasing game birds? Iowa does. You might want to check. A quick Google search says you need a game bird propagation license. You might want to check with your local game warden or wildlife biologist.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Though ringneck pheasants are not native to North America, today they are considered game birds and rules pertaining to them are made by state Dept of Natural Resources and Conservation Commissions. They were first successfully introduced in Oregon in the 1880s. Ringneck pheasants are the state bird of South Dakota. Just saying: As steep as wildlife fines are today, check before you stick your neck out. Sure don't want to see you get burned for lack of knowledge. I was a game warden in Iowa. It costs you nothing to ask. Your video is slam dunk evidence if there are rules you unknowingly broke.
you had just as lousy a hatch as i did. why do none of these "incubators" actually WORK. we shouldn't NEED a backup thermometer it's ridiculous. bunches of eggs and ONLY 2 WILL HATCH OUT. makes me LIVID

The protective coating is call the "bloom," from what I understand.
You do put lots of work into the farm. And you doing a wonderful job.
Thanks! I got a incubator a couple of months ago and was not sure how to use it. Now I know what to do.

Tank you for sharing video
Woooooo! 🥚 🐦
Hi from Melbourne Australia mate.
That was certainly educational. I probably won’t find them in the meat department.
Can’t wait for the first hunt …do the dogs 🐕 know how to hold a point?
Ok Josh.. You called them Quails. I thought they were supposed to be Pheasants. 12;46
Can you use a light to see if the eggs are fertilized?
Use a mix of Listerine and Water to clean the eggs. 50/50 ratio. We've had really good luck with this method.
Is that what hens do out in nature?
Congrats on the babies. You still haven’t finished that window trim 😂
bhahhaha...I know right!! It's a matter of getting the darn tools out from under all the mess in my shop lol

After eggs being layed how long should you keep them before putting in the incubator
Josh, you still haven’t finished the kitchen window trim. My OCD is vibrating.
I left it just for folks to see...lol...it's modern art right lol
I think it's called "bloom".
Does the incubator have to be inside or can be outside. We're in south texas.

Bloom?
👍
What was the final hatch count. Seems odd that you had chicks 3days old without any others hatched yet.

Josh. Looking thinner. Better eat more buddy. Big fan south of you. Enjoy your videos.
dropped 80lbs my friend and a wife lol
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer yep I know. Hate that. I’ve dropped 20. Way more work I’m 68 not bad. Healthy lean is good. Great videos always. Thanks
First like and comment!
When is the trail monkey outdoors channel.
it's up....just been working my butt off on the farm...no time to ride
I bought the same incubator, I've had a low hatch rate every time. I've even Tried using it in my basement. Still very little luck.
What incubator is it
You should get ducks for selling eggs and meat
Can you give me a link for the incubator please?
Tractor supply
Has anyone ever put both quail eggs and chicken eggs in the same incubator at the same time?
I would not recommend it
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer kk thanks so much!!
What is the name of the incubator 😊😊
see links below...I believe it's a little giant
Can I hatch any kind of eggs in incubator..? Please tell me in detail
google bro...I can't teach you everything you need to know..but you need fertile unwashed eggs
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thank you
Would have been great to see the whole process instead of just day one and day 20.

Awwww, please put the dirty egg in.
I was told NEVER open the incubator ! Until all eggs hatch because it will vacuum seal the chicks that don’t hatch from the temperature change
mother hen gets off the next 2-5 times a day....you just don't want it off for an extended period of time

well...since pheasants aren't native to the continental US...I"m not sure

50,000,001 see ya next time

Send me the video

It’s not the incubator it’s the egg. Always get your eggs from a very reliable source vs someone’s back yard flock
Why not just let the hens hatch em it’s cheaper!
