Agreed you cannot leave equipment exposed like this, not crank it all season and expect it to perform if that was any modern piece of equipment you could trash it, Gravely was built to last
That deck seems nice and quiet. Damned ethanol. I've found the only thing that really works is a double dose of the marine Sta-Bil fuel treatment. I've tried Marvel Mystery Oil, Seafoam, running the tanks dry, etc. None of that worked 100%. The Marine Sta-Bil seems to be the only thing that works because it helps with moisture which ethanol attracts. My uncle uses it for boats.
Water in tank. Ethanol separates into a water/corn liquor mix. Drain tank. Dump half/half of sea foam and marvel mystery oil. Then 91 non ethanol. No issues.
Sup dog, I only use the high test gasoline here in Iowa and stabal and I run seafoam about half the time too. So far I've had no issues after things have been cleaned and then only running the high test.got the L8 running still a lot more to do,thanks for your help and input.
Yeah, the gas of today causes all kinds of problems! I don't know what it is, but my gravely's carb gets a gritty build up of something that clogs it up, so about every 2 hours you put on it you have to take it apart and clean it. The gas tank is CLEAN, the fuel lines are brand new, and the thing has 2 fuel filters on it... has to be something with the gas!
Why would you not put a piece of tin or something over it rather than leave to set outside and rust down? As much ether as you put in it, I’m surprised it has any rings left….tsk,tsk,tsk.
That gravely is not a piece of junk! It is just neglected by you. If you can find any other piece of equipment that is 45 years old and still runs let me know. Why don't you buy yourself a DR mower and let it sit for a year and see if that piece of junk runs because it won't! Why don't you give that gravely to someone who will restore it and appreciates it.
If you treat your equipment like this, you deserve an irritating time trying to get it to run.
Bingo. First thing I thought.

I have heard a lot of people say to use marine stabil.. This just had regular stabil which clearly sucked lol
The deck is great. No had the pto in low so the deck was turning slow. These kidney decks work awesome...

U need a sulky. Then you'd have a true Mexican chariot
See if you can find an ultrasonics cleaner they work great to clean carbs
I thought I was the only one who blew into the gas tank to get things flowing. HA.
Common practice on all the old gravity feed fuel systems.
Acts like a predated primer.
Good looking deck ;)

I use carb cleaner not ether
what a pain on that stick float or main jet needle... Gary

Why would you think it’s a piece of Junk ? I may joking call one a piece of junk when there are problems but rest assured this is not junk….
