The park would entertain millions in the Northeast. Some would even say it was the Disneyland of the North. That because of its unique fireworks on Saturday's it became memorable for future parks like that of Walt Disney's. As a child my family would go to Willow Grove Park on an annual basis because my father’s union had a picnic at the
park. It included some free ride time for us children. For years it was a great place to go and enjoy all the rides and picnic. As noted in the video around the late 1960’s the park began to decline. Less people came and no new or rebuilt rides were added. Eventually the annual picnic ended. We never went back to the park. The build up of the northern suburbs made our drive to the park longer due to traffic since we lived in the western part of Philadelphia. Although you mentioned the growth of Disney Parks I feel the build up of great amusement piers especially at Wildwood, NJ. hurt Willow Grove. The final thing that I feel killed the park was the opening of Great Adventure Amusment Park in Jackson, NJ. It was big and had all new rides and attractions as well as an animal park. The land just became to valuable to sustain an amusement park that could only operate seasonally and big shopping malls were a connivence most local people would rather have. Not to mention the maintenance of the old rides was getting more expensive each year to operate the rides. Willow grove Park will live in my memory for all those fun trips we made to the park. Thanks for the video.
