It’s gonna take a hit visually. But that’s what happens for portability. Let me know how plating your ps5/ps4 version on the go works for you lol. The important thing is the gameplay doesn’t take a hit.
Well what if you got an AYANEO or any other high end portable device, then its Portability with great graphics. I LOVE MY SWITCH, but its 2021. im personally done with outdated graphics and muddy textures, its getting old now. its only good, if you only own a switch.
Tbh the swich version is my first Tony hawk game and I am really enjoying it overall tbh I never had any problems with frame drops yet and the graphics are still pretty okay in my oppion for a swich game ☺️
Some of you guys need to realize, the Switch is basically 2016 mobile phone tech. It's a miracle some of the new games released today for the Switch even runs on them. Your smartphone has more performance than the Switch.
It's weird that developers always get to decide what settings you play at with consoles, why not let the users change all the settings? If someone wants to max out the game on a Switch with 10 fps, why not let them? It should be up to the user. Maybe I don't care about graphics at all and prefer performance?
Because it would cost too much and then not be affordable for everyone els . Its about the tech available to us and nintendo want to have affordable consoles not just a pc in a psp body
@@ZenTauren are you slow ? They disable the settings because the tech in the switch is not able to run it all with the tech it has and still be affordable.... just move on you clearly have no idea how it all works
I have this both on Xbox One and Switch and having been a fan since THPS3 I can tell you despite the Switch’s shortcomings it is brilliant and as for any visual downgrades when you get into the game you won’t care. And as for performance issues, for me at least barely register. Simply put on Switch it is fantastic!
Having played the game on PC 1080 max setting with 120-220fps i can say that the switch game still works well and i enjoy playing it on a plane or a bus trip.
Yeah, but those games were probably made strictly for the PSP, so that's just what they had in mind! This a straight up port of a next-gen THPS game on Switch, and while it's obvious that it wouldn't have looked as good, it should've at least patched some obvious problems like look at the shadows or enhance the textures a bit in a patch
I'm loving this game on the Switch. It definitely surpassed my expectations and it's the little flaws and the fact it runs at 30 fps that makes it more reminiscent of the original games. Though i have to admit i havent unlocked San Francisco yet and that the people who ported it were too lazy on the job with the skaters' faces
I find it incredible the excuses that Switch players invent to justify their very bad console, with all the games coming out at 30 fps with drops, low resolution and graphical downgrade at full price.
@@BrianNazzi the full price disappoints to an extent but I only buy stuff on sale anyway haha don't you have a Switch? Tbh I've never been picky with graphics when it came to Tony hawk games. I have it on switch and yeah it feel similar to older titles including the original but for what it's worth I'm happy with a portable remaster that's 30fps without needing to be on mobile
I've watched 2 reviews, the first review said the 30 FPS lock was pretty consistent with only a few minor dips This guy says there are a bunch of dips that make it almost unplayable Guess it's time to find a 3rd review to see who is right
@@Nick930 I’m sorry man, but I have to agree with the original commentor here. I found way more reviews, that outnumber you for this one. Most people I’ve seen that review this game say while yes, it does have frame rate dips, they don’t happen a lot. It mostly maintains 30 FPS. So yeah, again, I hate to say it bro, but you’re out numbered. Like the original commentor said, you make it sound like the game has so many frame rate drops it’s unplayable, well… Not true. I can confirm this, because I have a copy for myself. And I actually do play it quite a lot. I’ve been enjoying the hell out of it, and I’ve experienced not that much frame rate dips. So yeah… For one final time, you’re out numbered. Now this comment is finally done.
i’ve been looking at a whole bunch of reviews, and yeah… I found the same as you. Most of them I’ve watched says it keeps a consistent 30 FPS with maybe a few minor drops here and there. It doesn’t happen all that often. So yeah… The game is just fine. not to mention, as I said to Mr. channel owner here, (yes I know your actual name), I own the game myself, and it plays just fine. So yeah… I can say from first-hand experience, that if you get the switch version, yes you will get a graphics downgrade, and your FPS will be 30 instead of 60, with maybe a few drops, but not enough to hinder gameplay. Plus, they’re not that noticeable when they do happen, because they don’t happen that often.
Honestly, I'll probably buy this game again on Switch when it goes on sale. The downgrades aren't that important to me. The game is fun and taking that on the go is gonna be great.
One thing I don't understand is that our modern smartphones like S21 ultra or iPhone 12 or just even any midrange phone is much powerful that the switch, the phones are portable as well. So if the phones have good power, good portablity, why don't developers port their games on phones. If piracy is a concern just make it have drm. Games like GTA SA, have over 5 million downloads on phone. Phones have biggest reach too. I just don't know why developers can't do it
Here's why! Because we demand our phones to be ultra thin meaning that an active cooling system can't fit inside the phone. Putting graphically intense games on a phone without an active cooling system will cause the phone to bottleneck and overheat. The Switch while not as powerful as those phones has a cooling system. So games can push the hardware because the fan will always stop the hardware from overheating. Also because let's be real, would you be willing to spend $60 on the App Store? Most people wouldn't when there are so many free or 99 cent games!
@@livinlikeeli6785 but still, games like pubgm codm a9 are pretty intensive, they run fine. And again for like 20$ some lesser demanding or older titles in android or ios will be worth it
@@xstongames4778 And all of those games would run perfectly fine on a Switch too! Besides, the real gold mine in the mobile gaming market is in free to play games. Like Candy Crush or Clash of Clans or Pokemon Go. Developers have already figured out the system and it's why you aren't seeing bigger more expensive titles on the mobile market, it's because that's not what makes money!
Because those phones cost $1000+ to pull that off and are usually paid for through monthly payments on a phone plan, and the switch is $300 game console that is paid for all at once. You want all that tech smushed into a tiny frame, you are paying a lot. There is no way anybody is buying a $1000 switch.
Yeah, like... they could've just ported the original game to the Switch and it would look equally as bad as this remaster. I don't really get the purpose of porting a ''remaster'' to a console that can't even handle it with those extreme graphics. The switch version isn't even really a remaster because of that. 🤷♀️😂
It Will Looks Like The Remastered In Switch But You Need To Wait For The Nintendo Switch V2. Their Going To Release V2 So I Think It Will Look Like The Remastered One But IDK.
@@ABxDragon The nintendo switch pro or whatever it will be called isn't even *announced* yet and it most likely would just be some small upgrades compared to the original switch. The performance will probably still be equally as horrible or just barely noticeably better if/or/when the Pro version is ever released.
@@alexsilva28 Crysis? 😳🤣 Wow... I actually had no idea about that. Yeah Crysis is probably the worst example as of yet, even worse than this to be honest. I really don't get the point of it.
I'm really just glad to finally have a system I can play this on tbh. Games tend to have lackluster controller support through Epic from my experience and while my gaming laptop is quite powerful, it can't always run at max settings anyway. Besides, I really couldn't care less about graphics as long as the gameplay is good (though ridiculously poor graphics *do* turn me off). And I've been wanting to play this one for quite some time now. To be fair though, I thought it looked pretty good on Switch (though obviously it looks much better on other systems, which is basically tradition at this point) and generally people seem to agree that despite the occasional framerate issue, it's a pretty solid port. And honestly, I've seen far worse Switch ports, so I'm inclined to agree.
Argh I wish I had waited for this awesome comparison! But hey having Tony Hawk in a portable mode is pretty sweet, I'm hopeful that a Switch 2.0 will address some games with performance issues...
Nací en los años 90s y jugué los primeros en Playstation y nintendo 64 y les puedo asegurar que la versión de nintendo switch es muy buena para aver salido en una consola portátil
Interestingly the shadows actually look better on switch if you get it physically and don’t download the “required” download (I say “required” because when I did it I was able to free skate all the levels, play the career, and use create a park and create a skater (tho the hair color on the main menu was off but looked fine in a level) tho didn’t perform as well
There are a few different camps of switch owners. Some have the option to get the superior version of games, and some are stuck with what they get. Some even want both - so they can play the best but also have something to bulk up their switch library. Your outlook on switch ports is going to be skewed depending on what type of owner / player you are, and your bar may be understandably lower the more invested you are in your switch. As mine spends most its life docked on the same 4k tv my PC has access to, I'll likely be choosing the PC only, myself.
personally i am quite happy with it on the switch, even with the FPS and graphics downgrade. i played it over the course of my camping trip this week and got invaluable use out of it.

Excellent comparison, as always. No doubt, the Switch version looks a lot worse, but I love it anyway. Still looks WAY better than the originals (which I also loved), and it’s portable! But after seeing this, I’m gonna have to buy the PC version too.
I got it for the Switch because of the portability factor, everyone should know at this point that the graphics will take a hit, but damn that portability is way too important to me. Plus the game plays great overall on the Switch
Honestly despite all these noticeable downgrades in the switch version, I still might pick up a copy. I was disappointed when the game first released and it cam out on every platform except switch. Plus we haven't had a Tony Hawk game on a portable handheld or a Nintendo console in a while. Also the same thing that happened to Mortal Kombat 11 unfortunately happened to this game. Successfully ported over from the other consoles, at the cost of looking worse.
My experience with it has been mostly positive. It doesn't look anywhere near as good as the PC version, but it's entirely serviceable, and honestly looks better than I had expected. So many ports look unrecognizable, but this still looks like Tony Hawk to me. As for the frame rate, I haven't had many significant drops in the single player, so at least it's tolerable there. Multiplayer is a completely different issue, so I can't recommend picking it up if that's your preferred way to play, but just skating around the maps is fine. I do wish it could have performed just a little bit better, but I'm not unhappy with it overall. It's Tony Hawk, it's on the Switch, I'm satisfied. That said, if the PC version ever stops being an Epic exclusive, I'll be all over it.
I find it incredible the excuses that Switch players invent to justify their very bad console, with all the games coming out at 30 fps with drops, low resolution and graphical downgrade at full price.
You call it excuses, I call it reasonable expectations. I knew going in that it wasn't ever going to match the Xbox or PlayStation version graphically, and as long as it still plays fine, I would be satisfied.
I dont mind the graphical downgrade but the FPS downgrade is hard to swallow. I've put in a few hours into the switch version now and I'm pretty used to it but I know I would enjoy this game A LOT more if it was running at 60 fps.
I'm also a bit disappointed about god rays/light shafts being gone. I mean The Witcher 3 and Doom didn't cut that effect on Switch, they just toned them down a bit. Then again those games drop frames waaaay more often than this.
It's funny watching this after having played only the switch version the past couple weeks. I actually thought it was great and was a welcome nostalgic treat to revisit from playing the original games. Especially on the go. Although now having seen this it's got me interested in getting the PC version, it does look impressive! :D
Every time I see a switch port be gimped by its own hardware, I always wonder why devs don’t port these games to more powerful phones that most people have already
Tony hawk switch version would easily overheat mobiles has they have thin thermal paste on there chips and have no cooling fans or heatsink to keep the temperature low
Cause is really hard to optimize a mobile game, you have to deal with so much variety of hardware, also thermal throtling, the Switch as weak as it is, is easier to develop for because of the fixed hardware. Look at GTA San Andreas "remastered" mobile version, is a PS2 game but they butchered all the original visual effects of the game to make the game run stable on mobile.
@@tranquility6789 fair point, but still the sheer amount of different hardware still makes hard to optimize, you may have an high-end phone, but developers have to think about the market overall and the vast majority have a mid-range phone. you also have the control issue, games need to work on touch screen, since most people don't play with controllers. and in the mobile market people don't like to buy games, so the business model that works best is the freemium model, games are free with MTX. The game you mentioned, Genshim Impact, freemium game. (free + mtx) Tony Hawk Pro Skater is a premium game meaning they charge full price upfront instead of MTX, so probably wouldn't have a good ROI for them to justify doing all the work do port it to mobile.
It looks like garbage but a small part of me kind of digs it? I've played through almost all the classic Tony Hawk games in the past year or so, so it might just be a familiarity 😂 if the switch could handle a better frame rate the downgrade would've been fine by me
I tend to be very permissive with the titles ported down to the switch, however, I don't praise any game if it doesn't hold up to the already low expectations, it's unfortunate because the switch is very fun to play with.
Honestly without seeing the side by side, the switch version looks great. I've been playing the switch version on a 50 inch tv with no issues and I think it looks great.
@@jimking81 It depends on the game and what they had to sacrifice to make it work. I played the witcher on switch without having played it on anything else and to me it just wasn't fun. It was pushing the switch so hard and didn't even look very good. It kinda hurt my eyes. However not the case with this game. This game looks great and runs great. You're just not getting the bonus 4K and ultra-high frame rates like on other consoles. But a majority of games don't even offer that, so it doesn't feel like it is lacking.
Ohh I love how the Switch one looks. I hate modern lighting and I hate the piss over the Venice Beach level. So without the sun it makes the level better imo. I should have waited for the Switch Port instead of buying the PS4 one. It feels so much closer to the old ones, besides the 30fps that I wish I could have with other versions of this.
I grew up playing every single Tony Hawk game, since the original. The performance on the Switch version is pretty great. Its not perfect, but it never hinders the gameplay. I love Nintendo but they really need to upgrade the Switch.
People saying it looks like a ps2 or ps1 game have clearly never played either on a CRT television on the native hardware.
It’s a switch port of a highly graphical game.

Some of you guys need to realize, the Switch is basically 2016 mobile phone tech. It's a miracle some of the new games released today for the Switch even runs on them. Your smartphone has more performance than the Switch.
As weird as it sounds, I'd love a comparison between THPS 1+2 on Switch, vs Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix on PSP
I almost missed this era of games being almost entirely different on less powerful or last gen platforms
The era that started during ps2 and ended in ps3 in 2015 .
It's weird that developers always get to decide what settings you play at with consoles, why not let the users change all the settings? If someone wants to max out the game on a Switch with 10 fps, why not let them? It should be up to the user. Maybe I don't care about graphics at all and prefer performance?
Yeah tbh I'll put shadows of and remove all lighting and even remove effects
Because it would cost too much and then not be affordable for everyone els . Its about the tech available to us and nintendo want to have affordable consoles not just a pc in a psp body
Cost too much? They literally disable the settings before they publish the game. They can just leave it there, for free.
@@ZenTauren are you slow ? They disable the settings because the tech in the switch is not able to run it all with the tech it has and still be affordable.... just move on you clearly have no idea how it all works
They disable the settings because you have too low of an IQ to decide for yourself, that's it.
I think portability shouldn't always count as an excuse for the switch. PSP had Tony hawk too, and it ran fine
Psp was also gimped in ways compared to console porta. Plus, the graphics weren't exactly pushing the hardware to it's limits on ps2 and PSP.
The concept of playing so many big releases portably was something that took me about 5 years to get over. I completely abandoned my PS4 after getting my first Switch and only stopped playing on it now that I got my Series X and have been emulating PS2 in 4k and such
Great, now I'm gonna play this while on the toilet while 'Superman' by Goldfinger is playing.....
Tbh I've never been picky with graphics when it came to Tony hawk games. I have it on switch and yeah it feel similar to older titles including the original but for what it's worth I'm happy with a portable remaster that's 30fps without needing to be on mobile
They should have a low poly option in the remake so you can make it look like the original
Or mabey a PS1 skin for every Charakter from the original Games
I've watched 2 reviews, the first review said the 30 FPS lock was pretty consistent with only a few minor dips
This guy says there are a bunch of dips that make it almost unplayable
Guess it's time to find a 3rd review to see who is right
I showed you the footage of it - it happens. It stutters.. and it runs below 30fps. Whoever you watched before just didn't play enough.
The game is fun and taking that on the go is gonna be great.
its on sale right now for $20
One thing I don't understand is that our modern smartphones like S21 ultra or iPhone 12 or just even any midrange phone is much powerful that the switch, the phones are portable as well.
First - cooling. Second - it is not really accepted by people to pay a lot of money for a mobile game. Third - controls.
Because those phones cost $1000+ to pull that off and are usually paid for through monthly payments on a phone plan, and the switch is $300 game console that is paid for all at once. You want all that tech smushed into a tiny frame, you are paying a lot. There is no way anybody is buying a $1000 switch.
and now nintendo, in all seriousness, is bringing out a new console with no improved performance such a shame xD
And valve reveals their steam deck on the day that the switch oled went on preorder, legends
it looks like the switch version is the original game and not the remastered version xD
@@Boomer112 Yeah it's so ironic and pointless to see all these remastered games get released on Switch (Crysis comes to mind as the worst example).
Okay, but at least they didn't make it a semi top down 2D scroller with entirely different maps like they did with Nintendo handhelds when I was a kid
AWESOME COMPARISON 🔥
Nintendo Switch never has been about the graphics... neither has the THPS series...
It's an arcade Skating game, it's about gameplay...
yeah i'm not really looking for graphics in what's literally two PS1 games with a modern coat of paint
You should do a comparison of the original Nacht Der Untoten to the remastered version from BO3
Sorry to be the one to say it, but I don’t think they’d ever do that
I was hoping you'd cover this. It's a shame it can't sustain a 30fps rate. My collectors brain wanted to get it just so I can say I own THPS on Switch
Argh I wish I had waited for this awesome comparison! But hey having Tony Hawk in a portable mode is pretty sweet, I'm hopeful that a Switch 2.0 will address some games with performance issues...
you should do the history of harry potter games, i think they had at least one for every book/movie
Nací en los años 90s y jugué los primeros en Playstation y nintendo 64 y les puedo asegurar que la versión de nintendo switch es muy buena para aver salido en una consola portátil
Interestingly the shadows actually look better on switch if you get it physically and don’t download the “required” download (I say “required” because when I did it I was able to free skate all the levels, play the career, and use create a park and create a skater (tho the hair color on the main menu was off but looked fine in a level) tho didn’t perform as well
0:42 I prefer when games do not have sun glare so the Switch looks better to me here.
Tbh the switch version should be compared to the og game
Amazing vid as always, also chivalry comparison video when?
personally i am quite happy with it on the switch, even with the FPS and graphics downgrade. i played it over the course of my camping trip this week and got invaluable use out of it.
I have it on both PS5 and Switch. I prefer playing it on the go a lot though.
Damn this is rough. Dropped to 30fps and still missing a lot. What is that quote from Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park about what you could and should do
They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop and think if they should.

Excellent comparison, as always. No doubt, the Switch version looks a lot worse, but I love it anyway. Still looks WAY better than the originals (which I also loved), and it’s portable! But after seeing this, I’m gonna have to buy the PC version too.
Just goes to show how outdated Nintendo's systems are compared to the technical specifications of even systems that came out in 2013. It's truly sad.
Ur right switch is bad because mobile is good
They even murdered the sound
Thug2 remix on the psp is a better game in my opinion but it's awesome to see this on the switch
best portable thps
THPS 1 + 2 was a beast! 💛
great game to have on the go. I have xbox, ps4, and now the switch version. same with DBZ Kakarot, cant wait until its released for the switch
I dont mind the graphical downgrade but the FPS downgrade is hard to swallow. I've put in a few hours into the switch version now and I'm pretty used to it but I know I would enjoy this game A LOT more if it was running at 60 fps.
Considering that the switch is basically a phone with buttons it's running great
It still looks great. Who can even notice on a 5.5/6.2 screen.
You know what, the switches graphics are fine people don't play thps for graphics but for the gameplay this is actually pretty good for a handheld.
Watching this kind of gave me a headache, the level of downgrading is pretty insane.
I mean, you're watching vs PC at max spec 4k...
I'm also a bit disappointed about god rays/light shafts being gone. I mean The Witcher 3 and Doom didn't cut that effect on Switch, they just toned them down a bit. Then again those games drop frames waaaay more often than this.
Btw I'm curious about the framerate. I haven't gotten any drops like that. Haven't played online tho.
@@matrix9452 that was like 7 years ago bruh
@@A83793 phones get hot but they don’t overheat, they throttle down performance. I can play genshin at max on my phone fine at 30
@@tranquility6789 fair point, but still the sheer amount of different hardware still makes hard to optimize, you may have an high-end phone, but developers have to think about the market overall and the vast majority have a mid-range phone.
you also have the control issue, games need to work on touch screen, since most people don't play with controllers.
and in the mobile market people don't like to buy games, so the business model that works best is the freemium model, games are free with MTX.
The game you mentioned, Genshim Impact, freemium game. (free + mtx)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater is a premium game meaning they charge full price upfront instead of MTX, so probably wouldn't have a good ROI for them to justify doing all the work do port it to mobile.
It looks like garbage but a small part of me kind of digs it? I've played through almost all the classic Tony Hawk games in the past year or so, so it might just be a familiarity 😂 if the switch could handle a better frame rate the downgrade would've been fine by me
The sound and video aren't synced during during the sound comparison. The sound is late

Honestly, the visuals were more of an issue, because the lower resolution made it difficult to see objectives in the distance.
Unless you’re a PC snob, these games look and play very well.
