Brin's concept of copies is amazing! It has utility in thinking of how intelligent autonomous computations might behave and interact. The mind boggles! For example, how the data bases of the IACs needs to organize, is fun to think about.
1. Most people perceive the "brain" as an organ inside our head. And it is. 2. But, what if our perception of reality were changed to perceive our whole body as our brain? Would that expand the capacity of our brain and our mind? The brain includes the body. By changing our perception of reality, new knowledge, understanding and wisdom could possibly be perceived that we could then apply. 3. Then, continuing on with this thought process, our perception of reality includes everything in existence as a part of "our" brain. "Our" brain would then include our brain, our body, and everything in existence. 4. When we help others, we help ourselves. When we are neutral to others, we are neutral to ourselves. When we hurt others, we hurt ourselves. 5. But then reality appears to indicate that we all consciously cease to exist one day. "Life" would just be an illusion from the human perspective as far as eternity is concerned. Does it matter that we even ever existed at all? Who eternally to? 6. Even if I had all the knowledge, understanding, wisdom and applications of "God" but one, (to eternally consciously exist with choices), what would it eternally matter? If even "God" is not truly eternally consciously existent in actual reality, then even "God's" existence would cease to matter one day of which then did even "God" and all that "God" may have done and/or not done, ultimately and eternally matter in the first place? 7. There either truly is at least one eternally consciously existent entity in actual reality, or there isn't. What exactly matters into eternity and to whom does it exactly matter to? "God" alone? and/or "Me" too? and/or "Some other entity or entities"? OR "To no eternally consciously existent entity at all"?
What i ofter wonder is just what is the physical data of memory and consciousness. Is it chemical information that can be read digitally and then implant into another brian? How will that brain read and store that information. Will that brain function like the old one?

The thought experiment sounds like having an assistant (or many, human or machine). It is the power of delegation.

His concept is basically the Shadow Clone technique. You're welcome. :)
