You’re going to notice a lot of laughter, questioning and weird faces from the collaborators in the panel talk. I was invited at #AraIAqui (TVE Catalunya) to give my point of view on FREEDOM and to speak about NON-BINARY Identities. What’s sad about it is the amount of IGNORANCE, JOKES and DISRESPECT I received about my Gender Identity, being told that Queer Theory is really dangerous, that we as Gender Non-Conforming folks are attention seekers [...] and invalidating my point about “trans women are women, and they have the right to identify as TRANS regardless of their medical transition”. The worst part was to hear them saying: “So now all faggots are called binaries?” coming from such a place of disrespect, and that I should not be allowed to teach and expose myself to children just because of my image. Definitely some hard words to listen to. I know how’s the mentality in Spain, I just didn’t expect something like that would happen on National television.
When someone in the media uses their privilege to joke about GNC identities, they’re invalidating all of us and portraying an image that says it’s okay to question LGBTQ+ people.
Which just promotes more homophobia, transphobia and puts us in higher risk. (Not that we aren’t threatened already, we have weekly headlines of hate crime towards LGBTQ+ folks in Spain/Catalonia).
NO ONE in the tv show was ready to interview me, none of them did research on the matter. All they did was to discredit our existence as Queer people. It showed me the real face of this Society and reminded me of how much work is left to do. TAKING IT AS MOTIVATION TO KEEP... Guess what: TEACHING📚. THIS FIGHT IS ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS. And NO ONE IS STOPPING ME FROM DOING SO.♥️
The upcoming generations shouldn’t be exposed to this kind of public harassment.
Ps. In the meantime, send them LOVE & communicate with as much RESPECT as you expect to get back.
