I feel like everyone is missing the main point of the "give the superstar what he wants" idea. I'm really not sure why nobody is making the argument for Portlands behalf.
It has nothing to do with Dame. I don't expect an organization to cripple themselves just to be nice or respectful to a good person. That's not how business works. It is about future acquisitions though. Especially if you're somewhere like Portland (no offence to the area, it actually seems nice but players never seem too interested in playing there for whatever reason). If you rebuild back into a competitive situation and need a star piece from free agency to make a run, the last thing you want that star to think about is how poorly you treated the last guy when he wanted out.
Yes, they'll give Dame what he wants, but because even if it isn't the best offer, it's the best business decision. Not to mention a huge negative fanbase outcry for a beloved idol.

Agreed. There's pure business and then there's the soft side of it. There is some merit to an organization needing to show that it's "friendly" to superstars. But that only goes to a certain point. They are running a business. You don't give your assets away for less than fair value. The fact is that everyone at the trailblazers will be impacted by this. There's some accountant that won't get a raise if Dame leaves because the tickets sales will plummet. There's a hot dog vendor who will lose his job because the stadium will be empty. It's not ALL about Dame.
Like I said. Do right by your player. If not, try to talk to the player and see if he’ll stay for at least the 23-24 season.
Being friendly to superstars hasn't gotten Portland any yet....that won't change being nice to Dame. Better for them to just get better assets and win like Denver - thru the draft directly.

It’s crazy that Portland is not valuing Tyler Herro when he was #1 scorer for Miami, a proven clutch player, and a 6th man of the year when he was coming off the bench. Yet they valued Jeremi Grant to an insane contract and he is not as good as Tyler Herro.

I was on Dame’s side before, but if he really is insisting on only one team, that’s a bit much, he should give the team at least 3 or 4 options so they can get some bidding going.
He's already sacrificed his time, health and showed his loyalty to the organisation, and they've completely failed him for like 8 years. At the very least he should be able to go and compete where he wants to, Portland would've been nothing without him and they took him for granted.

The problem with the KD comparison is that when he initially asked for the trade the Nets didn’t oblige and they forced him to stay. The only reason they ended up trading him to Phoenix is because Kyrie getting traded took them out of contention so it was in Brooklyn’s best interest to rebuild. The Suns new ownership basically forced James Jones’ hand to trade almost all their assets for him and they ended up getting a great return for him.

I agree. For an organization like Portland it’s going to be difficult winning a championship for the foreseeable future. They don’t get free agents, but they also don’t take risk. When I look at the Mavericks, they’re a team that doesn’t get free agents either. However they took a risk to get Kyrie, in hopes of making Luka happy. This is important to note because Scoot is looking like the future of Portland. If he turns into a superstar he may not be as loyal as Dame. Especially if he sees the franchise isn’t willing to go all out to build a winner around him.

Chris is right on this one. Makes no sense for the Blazers to trade away a valuable asset simply to appease someone who won’t be on the team. Nick wants Dame to go to the Heat so badly; he’s willing to ignore logic for the sake of narrative. The Blazers have a vested interest in getting a good deal for any transaction they do. If they can send him to a contender on top of that, I’d be unsurprised if they did. Fallacious arguments aren’t good ones.
That would make every star they ever draft more likely to get out after their rookie contract so its a hard decision either way. Its a dangerous game to play to make your franchise have a rep of not being star friendly. At the minimum they need to send him to a contender or else no player will ever want o be a blazer of their own volition.
Yeah that’s not entirely true. The team’s brand and reputation would take a massive hit if they ended the tenure of one of their 3 best players ever on poor terms… it isn’t just as simple as taking the best deal.

This idea that not trading Dame to the Heats would severely impact their ability to attract notable players is asinine because they already dont attract notable players. All trading Dame to the Heats for a weaker offer does for them, is give them years and years of stronger obscurity, because getting a star in the draft let alone in free agency isnt a sure for them.

Nets not giving up more than one draft picks for Herro. Marks is not running a charity organization. Nets are not eager to trade Ben Simmons. They want to see what he has left. He's looking good in private workouts. It take a while to fully recover from back surgery.

As far as Carmelo goes his time in Denver was "Carmelo gets his 50 points, but when he sat on the bench for a rest the Nuggets would take the lead, once entering the game the Nuggets would lose the game but Carmelo would get his 50. Glad to see him go to N.Y. He gad a great win with Syracuse in his college days but as a pro he wasn't down as a team player. Ball Arena will never welcome back Carmelo Anthony. Sad
