Man I'm glad you weren't injured and that it wasn't the battery. It would be cool to see your battery charging setup and it would probably be helpful for others who are new to the hobby as well. Keep up the great work.
When I got off my 30 year RC hiatus a couple years back, I foolishly assumed you had to use spektrum batteries with spektrum ESC’s. Went through 4 batteries before I learned that I could run any brand.
These days I use zee and more recently I’ve been giving Yoowoo graphene batteries a shot. Both brands (amongst dozens of others im sure) run great and have been half the price with more than double the cycles so far of the Spektrums
I use my leaf blower after using a compressor for a couple weeks the powerful type of leaf blower works great after spraying with silicone lube
+1 for the battery saftey video! I just got back into RC and want to get a lipo for my Traxxas merv vxl. I'd like to see what a safe lipo set up looks like for sure! Good stuff man. Sucks your esc gave up tho ghost tho.

I haven’t had issues with my Spektrum electronics. I haven’t heard anything good about their batteries though. I run my FT on 16t pinion and upgraded fans. The esc is never hot, even before the upgrade. I had an exposed light wire before, and it caused my esc to glitch out.
Yeah I think I’ll warranty this ESC. And then just not run paddles with the speed gearing in heavy snow anymore haha. My usual bashing set up is the speed pinion and 6S backflips with the fans and I never see above 160 motor temps
Overgeard plus weight of snow plus paddles =fire esc is toast this happened to my brand new talion , got it replaced by horizon the whole Rc was replaced those escs can’t handle extreme loads it should have turned off on its own but that safety feature sometimes doesn’t work
Yeah I’m about to take the ESC off and begin the warranty process. Hopefully they do it. If not I have a firma 160A lying around
@@midwestern_rc I would get it warranty and put it aside and run the firma 160 in it instead you’ll be able to push out more power from it and it should be able to throw that fireteam around like nothing
How did you have your Talion setup when it blew?

That truck just too heavy for that spektrum esc but they force it into everything. At least the warranty is good and they will replace it easily. I wouldn't put it back in there though 🤣.

I’m sorry that happened; totally sucks. And, oh boy, nothing like a smoking car to get the blood pumping.
You may be right about the wire short, and there wasn’t much snow on the ground….but my 2 cents…. running those paddles in what looked like borderline slushy conditions with the high speed pinion gear may have put too much load on the electronics. Wet snow is a bear and the load may have happened so quickly the esc thermal protection didn’t have time to kick on. May explain the glitching you experienced just prior. Then again, maybe not, it’s just a thought.
Yeah could’ve been either of those. Hopefully I can get it warrantied. If not I may just put a spektrum 160A in since that’s what I have lying around and solder on one ec5 since I mainly just run 6S LiPos

After this video tho and replacing the ESC I’ve had no issues with this since. I think the body really helps protect most of the important stuff. I also don’t smash and bash it as hard as I used to haha
Everything I have seen/read says that fast charging or charging your batteries at the maximum possible amps, shortens the life of your batteries. I think if you have the time, low and slow is probably better for the longevity of your batteries. I agree with JT that the speed pinion with paddle tires in the snow could have been the reason especially if those tires are bigger because that would change the ratio even more.... but it was cold out and you didn't run for very long so it's hard to believe it would overheat that quickly. Sorry about the fire though..... I know that sucked! 😕
Yeah I agree with him too. Was either the load on the system or a possible shorted wire. But these spektrum batteries were always used with my spektrum smart charger so you just plug them in and they auto charge at the set rate. Even if I didn’t use a battery that day I would hook it back up and set it to storage charge to bring it back down to 3.8V

Facts. So overpriced too. I actually had a sixth spektrum 3S 5000 LiPo and ended up bringing it to the hobby store to recycle. Then I realized it was the battery in general so I started saving them so I could spread awareness
If you’re running it on snow and someone has sprinkled salt then that causes short circuit (don’t think I need to explain how and why. Heavy tires would typically affect the motor, but that wasn’t it.
They warrantied the ESC tho so that was neat
Throw away all Firma Speckrum rubbish,to save all RC users the disappointment and to stop them producing yet more crap.Cant count the amount of this rubbish I have seen bust in my machines.Its become predictable as to what will go First,Last and Always.Be great if Arrma did all the 6s range in rollers.Sweet paddles though.keep on keeping on.✌️🤡
It’s ridiculous man. And you usually have to jump through hoops to get stuff warrantied.
