Coincidentally, most of the musicians and the Ray Charles SIngers were the same artists who performed on the record. Joni says the preparation for these T.V. appearances in the 1950s was thorough and done over several times. When she looks down as she starts the song she is looking at her mark on the floor to make sure is positioned correctly for the camera.

Did you know THE MONKEES even knew of her? JONI had stepped back from her career by the time "Bossa Nova Time" (1965) was recorded. I am not dreaming when I remember one of the Monkees saying "I was going to a JONI JAMES concert!" Probably something thrown in.
