    Joni James impressed me so much with her singing back in the 50s that even now at 76 yrs old I can still remember all the words to this beautiful song! And I can’t even remember if I ate lunch today! Lol

      I bought a vinyl record of hers at Goodwill to try her music....she seemed so beautiful and had a great voice. I'm glad I discovered her music.

    joni james and connie francis were the biggest recording stars on mgm records back in the 1950's and 1960's. both italian and both great singers

      Lol, oh Robert Beatty I just said that same thing. I never even saw your comment first but you're so right, there's no beauty in music anymore like these two ladies could sing and Joni so unique and Connie with that cry in her voice? Ah man....no one else in the world " Mama" makes me cry everytime.

    Joni James belonged to an era long gone when life was simple and uncomplicated , yet full of happiness and joy .

      Life was never simple and uncomplicated. TV made it seem so, which just caused more pain. Thank God the 60s (and Dylan!) came along and swept these fluffy lies away.

      Oh yes, let’s all get strung out on drugs and make the drug cartels ultra wealthy so they can take over and buy out elections. Mob store robberies, carjackings, gang shootings, violent rap lyrics. IT’S STRESSING EVERYONE OUT. How is it that when you look at older photos from the 50s most everyone was smiling? In Today’s cellphone pics many seem to be out of it or they have a miserable expression. Guess what, if you don’t appreciate real talent then you’re free to listen to listen to whatever you like.

    I was always amazed she was able to follow this with the fabulous "There Must Be A Way." Hard to make two such great records in a row for any artist. I wanted her to record "I Don't See Me In Your Eyes Anymore" as a followup. She knew and liked the song but that did not happen. She had a very strong vision of what music she wanted to do and why and that prevailed.

      @waynebrasler 8 років тому +15

      T+catman916 This is live, not lip-synching. The phrasing is different from the recording; Joni seldom sang any song the same way twice. Coincidentally, most of the musicians and the Ray Charles SIngers were the same artists who performed on the record. Joni says the preparation for these T.V. appearances in the 1950s was thorough and done over several times. When she looks down as she starts the song she is looking at her mark on the floor to make sure is positioned correctly for the camera.

      @@waynebrasler YES,it IS live. So VERY sorry to hear of her passing! I attended one of her comeback concerts (1995) as a music reviewer for DISCOVERIES Magazine. Did you know THE MONKEES even knew of her? JONI had stepped back from her career by the time "Bossa Nova Time" (1965) was recorded. I am not dreaming when I remember one of the Monkees saying "I was going to a JONI JAMES concert!" Probably something thrown in.
