Did the same as you ..put a gauge on the lid. Now I can monitor the temp and see what the pit is doing. If it's running a little hotter I can cool it down by choking the intake and or throw in some onion chunks to cool it down also.
It's been about a year now, wanted to check in to see how you like the gauge and it's placement? Are you finding that the PBC runs consistent temps without adjustments? Thanks!
I think the beauty of the PBC is that you don't have to monitor the temp. Not sure that you want to be Mickey Mousing around with the vent hole or the rebar holes to adjust the temps. I have removed the rebar to let more air in or cracked the lid to help crisp up some chicken skin. The more you use the PBC, the more comfortable you will become with it. My next purchase is a Gateway just like yours. Like your videos and have subscribed. Please let us know how you like the temp gauge and what you are doing to make the adjustments. I may be wrong!
Tom Evans thanks Tom. I still haven't cooked on the PBC since the guage install but I plan on cooking some beef roast. I can't wait to see exactly what the temps are doing and if I can adjust the temp by adjusting the intake. Stay tuned my friend. 👍🏽
@@SmokinJoesPitBBQ That’s cool. I’m from Northern Ireland where it’s kind of cold and I’ve been struggling to get my PBC to stay above 240F without cracking the lid. When I crack the lid it tends to go above 325F and my food doesn’t cook how I’d like. Trying to get the smoker to stay at the 275F sweet spot.
Hey I want to do the to my PBC, but I'm a little scared of it just not being right after I do this.. has there been any different in cocking or temp what's so ever..
There is nothing you have to worry about. The temperature gauge is 100% sealed so you're not letting any more air in or more smoke out. If you place it close to the area as I did you'll be fine you'll have nothing to worry about.
You're going to get a lot of people to that'll tell you not to install a temperature gauge or don't mess with it. Everything relating to temperature has to be controlled, just like the AC at your house or the AC in your car or even your oven at home you set the temperature at what you want it to be and having a gauge you have the ability to control the temperature that way.
Smokin Joe’s BBQ yes sir. At least I'll be able to see the temp and what it is with the intake half way open. I'm really interested in seeing if I can adjust the temps. 👍🏽
Sharp looking gauge. Looks really nice on the PBC

@@SmokinJoesPitBBQ Did you ever test this out?
@@Anteater23 Yes I did and I believe it's a must to know what's going on inside the smoker temperature wise. 👍

@@SmokinJoesPitBBQ Nice thanks so much and keep the video coming love them!!
How accurate is that probe when your cooking?
Hello Kurtis, it's really accurate.👍
I liked the modification put the temp gauge even with the grate and you will know what your temp will be at grate level.
Smokin Joe’s BBQ yes sir. At least I'll be able to see the temp and what it is with the intake half way open. I'm really interested in seeing if I can adjust the temps. 👍🏽
This is GRATE thx
I also got you a sub today, saw the temp gauge on top but you can also put one at grate level.
Smokin Joe’s BBQ yes sir, especially with how affordable that gauge is.
