Nicely done HLP. It's a great way to decode the lock. Those Lishi tools are pretty amazing.

Thanks! It would be nice if they were easier to use as a pick but decoding is the most important part anyways 😃

    Hey!
    Perfect timing.
I recently bought a lush M1/MS2 and have had it for less than a week.
I quickly found out that although it fits all M1 keyways, you can't use it to pick some locks. It works perfectly on 'master' locks, for picking, and decoding, but the pin spacing is not the same on some other brands. I also tried it on a brinks and could not pick it with this tool. I never tried to decide the brinks because I don't have a key for it or any way to check if it is right.

Thank you for sharing HLP! You were the first Locksporter that I ever watched here on UA-cam. It was video [30] just over a year ago and my obsession/passion for locksport only got stronger each day there after, so I am forever greatful for the content you share with us all. Take care and keep it up 👍🏼🔐🔓

I was about to type that you don't need a tensioner with a lishi tool. But then I realised that you were just decoding with the tool. I must admit that I want one (all actually 🤣) of the lishi picks but they take the fun out of picking.
Even though I have never used one. They only fit in car door locks for the very very vast majority of locks here in the UK.
Not designed for UK padlocks or Euro cylinders unfortunately (fortunately? For my wallet anyway🙂)

Great for business, like picking and finding the key bitting for a customer, but I agree, not much fun.

    • @randommadness1021
      @randommadness1021 3 роки тому

@@chemistryofquestionablequa6252 Yeah, isn't really a tool for the hobby picker. But is a fantastic tool for professionals who, for instance, could use it to just decode a lock rather than have to drill out the cylinder and put a new one in.
Which would obviously be much more expensive for the customer too.

    • @HelpfulLockPicker

They are great tools but I agree your wallet will thank you for not buying them unless you are in the trade

@@HelpfulLockPicker for sure. At $70 a pop, I didn't bother with any of the automotive lishis and only got ones for common door locks and padlocks that I may want to decode.

I've never had an issue with my KW5 or SC4 Lishi, but the M1 is a little wonky for me too. Maybe that's just manufacturing sloppiness in the M1 MasterLock/Brinks core and bible?

Wow! He actually bought an M1/MS2 tool that reads the pin settings well enough to cut a key! The one I bought doesn't. Oh, I forgot, it's made in China.

another question - im running into a problem with knowing the right tension to use - when you google the proper tension - you receive a gambit of different reply's. i purchased one -for the sole purpose of removing the locks from returned vehicles - i work @ a transportation company where customers return vehicles with pad locks on the back of them. i can pick or rake a majority of them - but this seems to be a god sent . my only issue is the tension- it seems the pick on the device binds up - telling me to much tension - when i ease off the tension - spongey cylinders - any suggestions are greatly appreciated ..

I will be completely honest with you I really don't like this particular one. I usually just use it for decoding it's very hard for me to get stuff to bind correctly

I do not know if I follow. You can order a code cut key at a locksmith shop and you can finding the bitting charts by searching for them on a web search.

There's a Scottish guy too who has a bloody fantastic video about how important it is to get the tension right to open a lock. Once I remember his name, I'll add the name of his channel here.
