'Phil Collins' is the shit! A genuine musical genius... Period! He is the music. If you're British and you love your country then you should be shouting from the roof tops at just how great Phil is and he's all British! Anything less is tantamount to fucking musical treason.
The question I often ask myself after hearing such wonderful covers as this - Had we heard Phil's version first, would we say of the Beatles' version - "Oh it's a bit of OK I guess. But not like Phil's".
definately at 4:04 it's dead on,"In A Gadda Da Vida"!BABY!This is just fantastic.I love Phil's stuff anyway but this showcases his first musicical talent.
Yes. I noticed that shortly after Abbey Road was released in1969, about a year after the Iron Butterfly released In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Good musicians borrow. Great musicians steal. :)
Pity that some of the drumming parts are out of sync. If they do have the actual footage of Phil playing drums throughout the whole song, then the editing could've been a bit better.
I read a bit of frustration bitterness in a few comment's towards the last few written, basically to stir and upset other comment's. Try not to let it get to you, as this observer is possibly a lot younger than some, and most of the music created around the time of the 'Beatles', is now 50 to 60 years old. A bit like my generation listening to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jnr, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, and even older than them, Nat King Cole, Mel Thorme, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby. What has any of these artist's got to do with Phil Collins, and those who have come into being since the Beatles and Phil Collin's 'Genesis', and the music that was created during his generation, (is the similarity of how it all plays out). These older (Crooner's) of the 40s and 50s were really great, because there are people such as Michael Buble, Robbie Williams, Lady GaGa, who like this music, so they have teintroduced this music to the younger generation. Taylor Swit, Miley Sirus, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Eagle Eye Cherry, Goo Goo Dolls, 3 Doors Down, The Calling, Squeeze, The Killers, Foo Fighters, and the list goes on, as there are a lot more not mentioned here, that cater musically for some of today's generation's, and all this is becoming (old hat) and dated, especially by the time that these young people of today, grow to be oldies, their music and ideas are going to become old and dated, stale as well, to the generation's of tomorrow. Just thought I'd put this thought in the comment's, as a fact of life, that none of us has any control over, we all grow old, that happens to all of us, unless a life ends all too soon, and old age never affects them. Fortunately for myself, I do like most styles of music, some of the music that the young ones listen too, is some what too much (thump thump, bang bang) for my liking, but I too have to go along with it, because that is what my grown up children and their children like to listen to. Again, there is no control over this normal happening that comes to all of us over time. But please have some respect for the older generation, who still enjoy listening to their generation of music, and try to respect it, and them, because that will be you younger people one day, wondering why the younger people, (after you,) are being disrespectful, and you saying, (what's wrong them?) and trying to get respect from them. In this video of Phil Collins singing and drumming to 3 'Beatle' songs from 'Abbey Road', this comes from a compilation that EMI producer George Martin, here in the video, had produced a compilation of Beatle songs that he loved, he got a variety of artists on board from all over, to take on a Beatles song, learn them, and then come into the studio, as shown here, to record these songs. As George Martin produced all of 'The Beatles' music, he was there at the time they (The Beatles) were writing this material, he also played on some of their music, wrote and conducted the orchestration's, of many individual musician's to come on board and play on the various Beatle recording's over the 9 years, he was at the helm of 'EMI records', on Abbey Road' at St John's Wood, a suburb of London, where 'The Beatles' spent countless hours writing and recording all their songs. George knew first hand how these song's go, the arrangement's, detail, so he coached everyone who came in to do their part for this particular session's. Phil Collins, along with many other world artist's, from all over, could not pass up an opportunity to work with the world's number one record producer. What a blast that would have been. Comediene, Jim Carey also sings on the album, and does a great version of one of the songs. I never knew Jim Carey could sing, but he can, and he is very good. It was a pet project that George Martin wanted to do, so he achieved this, and it is very good. It is usually good to hear other artist's doing their own spill on another artist's songs. The only thing I see faulty with this video, is the fact that it is out of since, it looks like a practice of an idea to make a video, but this one isn't the final take. The final video of a the tracks for the video, is very polished compared to this version. A DVD of the whole album is available, most DVD, CD music outlet's around the world, should be able to get a copy for those who want them. It is a worth while collector's item, nothing but the best in this lot. You may have to order the compilations.
He did it wrong. The drum solo. This masterpiece of Ringo's should never be re-interpreted. It should never altered to another's adaptation. Sacrilege I say. boo booo . Come on Phil. Do it right next time or not at all.
well CR,I never really cared for Paul and Cheap Trick is exactlly that.I will search out the covers however.Phil's main gig is drumming and I enjoy his singing also.so I disagree with you but this is nothing uncommon with me.OK?
OMG! He's trying really hard here. What's the point of it anyway? He added some extra drrruming before The End and that's it... Phil was everywhere at that time. He should sing Here, There And Everywhere. =)
+rochade2005 You of course being an expert on what's right and wrong in music. Your opinion of course is yours to share, but you apparently made it through this whole "pathetic" song and based your comment on that. I doubt you have the ability to do much better my friend...
How is it destroyed? It's pretty faithful to the original other than the extended drum solo. He didn't do anything new to it. And I'm sure it was arranged by George Martin.
RIP George Martin, the producer of all producers!
Absolutely gorgeous performance..
Miss Phil, the active, brilliant Phil..
Take good care of you, Mr. Collins
Collins singing The Beatles... Inception of awesomeness
I love this! The singer is out in the open - Martin is giving visual hand signals. The desk is amazing. This is how it used to be. Collins is great.
The best cover indeed.
Phil has such an awesome voice, listen to him singing that guitar solo at 2:05. WOW!
Such a talented guy. I am so happy to finally have seen him last week twice.
So schön 🌞🌞

Absolutely Great ! George Martin, we miss you so much ...

Good to hear one genius acknowledging the genius of others.
definately at 4:04 it's dead on,"In A Gadda Da Vida"!BABY!This is just fantastic.I love Phil's stuff anyway but this showcases his first musicical talent.

In the air tonight vs the Beatles : Beatles and Ringo have always been his huge influence
Hey mate do you have the original video still? I lost my copy. Or is this my youtube copy? No problem . I just need the original.
Pity that some of the drumming parts are out of sync. If they do have the actual footage of Phil playing drums throughout the whole song, then the editing could've been a bit better.
I didn't know Clint Eastwood could play piano
In my slumber... I drum like Doc Phil. :D LOL
WOWWWW!!! Phil, George Martin, and Hugh Padgham too! Where is this from??? Please...I really have to know....and thank you for this excellent post!
George Martin - In my life (1998). It's been awhile but it can still be useful
プロデューサ-の、ジョージ・マーティンがピアノを演奏している?

Anyone else hear a bit of "In A Gadda Da Vida" in the solo?
What the hell is the "drumming" footage supposed to be? We certainly dont watch what we are hearing!
+tod4y Just different takes.
wow phil playing with bottom heads...
I can hear him now singing long and winding road
Was this at the Farm?
Good job Phil, but no McCartney
How the f*** did you got George Martin for this?!
Just use the drum solo
OMG! He's trying really hard here. What's the point of it anyway? He added some extra drrruming before The End and that's it... Phil was everywhere at that time. He should sing Here, There And Everywhere. =)
Now I have to listen to Abbey Road.
What a pathetic song, what a ridiculous drum solo (always the same since 1970), what a floppy voice. Phil, just go home watching TV!
+rochade2005 You of course being an expert on what's right and wrong in music. Your opinion of course is yours to share, but you apparently made it through this whole "pathetic" song and based your comment on that. I doubt you have the ability to do much better my friend...
fukumesuckit
If mr. Collins is a "legend" on the drums, what Bill Bruford is?
donandannie4u2
It's very easy to understand what is wrong in music: songs "composed" just to make money, nothing else.
+fukumesuckit Sounds like a nobody namedropping for credibility.
+rochade2005 what the hell are you talking about?? You make ZERO sense.
Brilliant!
Didn't know this existed - thanks.
Brilliant. If only Phil could have done this with Paul and Ringo.
How is it destroyed? It's pretty faithful to the original other than the extended drum solo. He didn't do anything new to it. And I'm sure it was arranged by George Martin.
this must be homemade - nothing really syncs up to the music
Hallelujah
