Hi Friends, wow, Ken Scott, David Bowie’s Producer of one of my favourite albums, Hunky Dory (and many others!). Plus the Sound Techniques console that he used to make these albums! So happy to be share this video with you all!
Its like talking to a living priceless antique, not because of his age, of course, but because of what he did and with whom he did those things. He was a part of the best original roots of modern music. WOW! He has a perfect life. Doing what he loves in a quiet place on earth where he feels at home. And he has enough money to not worry. I am envious, but I didn’t put in the work that he did to deserve it. Great interview, warren. You are becoming the king of music history interviews. Its especially cool because it’s unprepared, which is the best way. Thanks for this wonderful thing.
Yeah!! I ran into Scoot as well there and he was kind enough to sign/autograph his book, which I happened to be reading at the time... I had no idea I could ever run into the man himself! Thanks for sharing/putting together this interview! Awesome. I highly recommend Ken's book :Abbey road to Ziggy Startdust".. tons of fun stories and tech stuff. Cheers
After many years I recently started listening again to Supertramp's 'Crime of the Century' which was engineered and produced by Ken Scott. What an incredible sounding album!
Warren my friend, I've got to say, you've created dozens of inspirational videos, but this is one I'll watch once-a-week. The sheer passion involved is awesome. I know creativity and expression is no.1, but the desks and studios are/were major instruments in getting the pure spirit of music across. I've had a couple of ciders as it's my birthday, but this comment is heartfelt.
Hi Jon Burns Music that’s very kind of you! I’m so glad to be able to help! Yes, Ken is the man. What a wonderful guy and so humble and informative. I had amazing time talking to him and looking over that beautiful console!
brilliant as always. thanks Warren . I was lucky enough to see Ken speak at a Q and A session a few years ago in Abbey Road studio 2. Was a fab event and got to see all the studio gear that was used in the 60s. Also got to play a chord on the grand piano used on A Day in The Life. Ken was complete gent and chatted to everyone and signed copies of his book. Well worth a read
i've got some pics and videos if you like .. i could email them to you.. the gear was displayed alongside detailed descriptions and i tried to include this in the pictures
Wow! How lucky are you Warren?! Way to go. Really nice chat with a talented and very down-to-earth producer/engineering master. "George Martin and George Harrison walking towards me..." Yes!
Amazing Producer and Engineer. Thanks for doing that Warren. Also, wow, I just posted a comment a week or two ago about this. Neve...yah....Sound Techniques...WOW! Thank You!
Wow..the only thing cooler than Ken Scotts recording career is that recording console ..and the part where you can buy for a home studio....will do some research on that ..very intriguing....great interviews!!!
Thank you so much for this fantastic insights. I feel like a child again too. And I had to pull out the Hunky Dory album again directly after seeing your video :) Best wishes.
Warren, WOW on people ready to purchase that beautiful piece of equipment. Like Jackie Gleason said, "if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it"
Glad to know am not alone in losing it occasionally when I stumble across a person I wouldn’t have thought I’d casually meet, and had no idea I would instantly start watering! 🔥
I love Danny White and his mad genius with vintage equipment and desk building. Was lucky enough to record at his place in Nashville, 16 Ton Studio, ( now sadly gone), through another of his custom desks. A. x
Hey Alastair! Sorry about the late reply here but we've been swamped. Absolutely loved the music you made with us in Nashville! Be well my friend! Danny
Thanks Danny. The album is finally finished and will hopefully make it to mastering in Sept. So happy to see that you're still out there bolting magic things together. A. x
The interview with Ken Scott make me think of two things Incredible Talent like Bowie was a one off and Ken was in the right place at the right time , three things actually
Ricky Kurtz I actually have had two people genuinely contact me about buying this! I will send them over to the guys at Sound Techniques! Amazing piece of history and with Ken Scott’s approval it is definitely a winner!
Had the joy of attending a seminar that Ken did in December last year, great stories but what a potty mouth! I did like his attitude towards modern music technology
Camera can't help getting blondes into the shot every time - first the 2 teens at the beginning, then the woman in the background while interviewing White - gotcha!;)
Got a book for ya! You might have read it, but if not definitely check out Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust. In my top 5! There's an idea: 5 books tips! No better inspiration than reading a good book by an amazing engineer/producer! Makes you forget about minutiae and focus more on approach and intent. I'd love to hear yours!
Ken Scott is a true legend. He sounds so kind. It must be a joy to work with him. No wonder he made so many incredible albums.
I agree 100% Mia! Thanks for your lovely comment!

That desk looks interesting! Real salesman bloke selling it, but it's nice to have a company spend the time and money on getting stuff right. :)
Hi Graeme Woller yes it looks amazing! Danny owns the company! I believe he’s very passionate about it!
Produce Like A Pro, the passion is the most important, isn't it!
BTW, thanks for everything you do Warren!
Graeme Woller wow! Thanks ever so much! I appreciate your words of encouragement!

Wish I had space for a desk like that :D
Haha me too!!
Can he be my grandad, please.? ;)
Haha he's younger than my Father!!
Produce Like A Pro yeah, granted, probably same here, but he has somewhat of a granddaddy vibe ;)
Haha Father to me! Maybe I'm just old then! Haha
Didn't have money for a desk... but did have the money to build one...
isn't that more expensive?
