Rafi sahab's voice is supreme and I have never seen a singer with such control on voice other than Rafi sahab(listen to chal ud ja re panchi). But as per my analysis, Ghantasala ji had a more classical touch. Both are legends but point is that Rafi sahab's voice has such emotions and expressions that mere humans can't possess. He was a purely a divine being. It seems like he had seen all the situations of life in some of his past life. Edit- At high pitches, I had never seen a singer before who can stand any near to Mohammad RAfi's vocal range but today I can say that Ghantasala ji was an exception. A Big thanks to the uploader.
For me Ghantasala ji is THE voice above anyone else if I really had to compare, I guess no one can truly judge between these two absolute giants. For South Indian melody and devotional songs I would pick Ghantasala ji any day, for North Indian style romantic songs Rafi ji.. both are and will always be very enjoyable

Ghantsala too had magic in his voice, but he did not have the ability to sing the range of songs that Rafi Saab could sing effortlessly! From O Duniya Ke Rakhwale to Jan Pehchan Ho, from Lal Chadi to Aaye Bahaar Banke, from Lal Lal Gaal to Aaja Re Aa Jara... from Yeh Mera Prem Patr Padhkar to Main Gaaoon Tum So Jao... the contrasts, the range - an endless ocean!!
@@suryasurendran5383 for me it is like comparing Lata(Ghantasala) ji and Asha(Rafi) ji, Asha ji's range is much wider than Lata ji but when it comes to melody and devotional songs, if I had to ever choose, hope not, my pick will be Ghantasala(Lata) ji because of his voice quality, and well oiled classical depth! Ghantasala is very expert in singing Padyamulu. Later Ramakrishna has sung some Padyamulu to his best. Balasubrahmanyam was/is never suitable for singing Padyamulu.
Absolutely - Ghantasala ji's voice quality is way above SPB for me even for songs; for padyalu just forget it, mastaru is waaaay above anyone else - only Ramakrishna ji's voice quality and depth is at a comparable level

Both versions(Telugu & Hindi) are heart touching melodies. Both Rafi & Ghantasala "s alapana is very melodies. We are unable to judge these Legendaries.. Difference expressed by listeners was only due to their habit ed mother tongues. But our great Lengendary SP balasubramanium will comment and decide who is best. That is his greatness.

Both Rafi Saab and Ghantasala Master are two legends that God has gifted to us (Mankind). It is not reasonable , proper and fair to say that one is greater than another. One should not do that. Both are equally great. Ghantasala's rendition of Bhagavad-Gita is unique and his voice is full of devinity. It is a classic example of his greatness. Similarly Rafi Saab's rendition of songs of "Man Tarpat Hari Darshan" and "O Duniya ke Rakhvaale " and many others are gems in his career which is an indication of his calibre. One should also note music is devine and personification of Goddess Saraswati. Both are great. The difference is Hindi and telugu have different ways of singing. Ghatasala sir has the advantage of experience in music direction as well.
Rafi and Ghantasala are two eyes of Indian film music one enthralled the audience of south India and another North India (whole Hindi heartland). One cannot be compared with the other. Both are the disciples of Indian Music. Irrespective of their religious backgrounds both are true sons of India.

Wah . what haunting melodies To quote that these great singers have been accorded Padmasri is insult to their immense talent they are Amaragayakulu and earthly achievements mean nothing to them where lesser mortals have been awarded Bharata rathna's. S Janaki has rightly rejected Padma award. Friends ! Ghantasala garu and Rafi Saheb were not only Excellent Artistes but Very Good Human Beings too ... They BOTH were Great LEGENDS in their respective language music fields... It is our personal misperceptions/ wrong illusions to discuss their merits when they had created a Great Memorable History in their respective fields... Soft or Hardness in voice is God's Gift but Melody studded in their versatile and agile voices has entertained us for decades and will do so in the centuries to come ... The stand as ICONS in Hindi and South Indian Music... The established their own styles which today's artistes and youngsters are following today... We should have fanism but not fanatic favouritism for the LEGENDS ! They BOTH were All Time Great and Good Artistes without any crookedness unlike some subsequent artistes who were unkind to the upcoming artistes by blocking their careers... They both admired each other and same tunes also happened to sing in their respective language versions of films. Ghantasala used to sing "Chal Ud Jaare Panchi" in his live concerts while his "Payaninche O chilukaa" was a superhit appreciated by Rafi Saheb as a better rendition .... There were certain instances where one tune in one language version has not clicked well in the other l In some cases both the versions clicked very well !
Just listen to the same song by both. Though we are not capable of comparing them. But Rafi sahab had more emotions and expressions in his voice and the supreme control on his voice. Just don't talk negative and absurd things about The Great RAfi.
Please do not compare and belittle either one of these two legends. Both enriched our culture with their godly and unforgettable voice. Simply listen to their voice to uplift and brighten the mood. As someone mentioned, it is their common trait of humility and humane nature that sets them apart, despite achieving the cult status. So, friends simply their songs and do not debate.
I have listened to both the versions for ever so many years. The debate goes on as to who sang better. Rafi Saab or Ghantasalagaaru. Today I heard this two in one, with my ear phone connected. I feel that the telugu version sounded better due to the sweetness of the language .
Ghantasala's voice suited the heavy tones of NTR & ANR and most Telugu heroes, while Rafi's voice was apt for Hindi heroes like Dilip Kumar & Shammi Kapoor. Rafi understood this, so in Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyaliya, he sings thick for ANR. Both did a good job in their respective language. Yet it cannot be denied that Ghantasala's grasp of the art is greater, given that he is a well trained vocalist and also a composer.

just feel the vocal range of both greats. Rafi sahab's high range penetrates the sky. Don't make it a language fight. Just feel the depth of Rafi sahab's voice. But, yes both had a great great vocal range. They were special creatures. Alap that ghantasala has taken is outstanding. A Great piece of art! I feel very pity on some people who are saying that Ghantasala is better than Rafi sahab. If you don't understand languages, just listen to the ending alaps of both and you can feel the depth of Rafi sahab's soul. It can melt your heart.

Two greatest singers two great legends.I love both.Ghantasala was also a great music director.Let us Also not forget the great music directors of their era who also gave great tunes.A song is only as good as its music.How can we belittle other singers who r also legends like Lata,Mukesh,Manna dey,Talat. Each great in their own ability.There r so many unheard songs by these same singers lying in the cans because of defective music.
Both are great singers. there is more perfection in classical point of view in singing by sree ghantasala than janab rafi sir. But we we prefer to listion rafi songs repeatedly as they are sweet and more divine than of ghantasala.
In my openion, rafi's version stands better. Whenever i hear the last two antras of rafi, my eyes are filled with tears. Not with that of ghantasala. Rafi infused feeling into the song as he did it to many other songs..

Rafi Saab was perhaps not in the Classical mould that Ghantsala came from. But that does not make one greater or the other smaller. Rafi Saab had the greatest versatility ever - he could sing O Duniya Ke Rakhwale, could sing Jan Pehchan Ho too. He could sing Yeh Mera Prem Patr Padhkar, as well as Jahaa Dal Dal Par Sone ki. He could sing Lal Lal Gal, as well as Aaye Bahar Banke. Show me one singer - Ghantsala included - who had 1/4th this range!! I will not touch upon how Rafi Saab moulded his voice for Actors, Music Directors and the scene on which a song was picturised! While Ghantsala was a classically-trained Playback singer (Yesudas is probably the last classically-trained Playback singer), Rafi Saab was the first true Playback Singer - consciously singing for someone else, rather than singing all songs in the same way!

I have greatest respect for both greatest singers who were also great human beings humble down to earth blessed Saraswat Putra both are
Rafi sahab's voice is supreme and I have never seen a singer with such control on voice other than Rafi sahab(listen to chal ud ja re panchi).
But as per my analysis, Ghantasala ji had a more classical touch.
Both are legends but point is that Rafi sahab's voice has such emotions and expressions that mere humans can't possess.
He was a purely a divine being. It seems like he had seen all the situations of life in some of his past life.
Edit- At high pitches, I had never seen a singer before who can stand any near to Mohammad RAfi's vocal range but today I can say that Ghantasala ji was an exception.

For me Ghantasala ji is THE voice above anyone else if I really had to compare, I guess no one can truly judge between these two absolute giants. For South Indian melody and devotional songs I would pick Ghantasala ji any day, for North Indian style romantic songs Rafi ji.. both are and will always be very enjoyable

From O Duniya Ke Rakhwale to Jan Pehchan Ho, from Lal Chadi to Aaye Bahaar Banke, from Lal Lal Gaal to Aaja Re Aa Jara... from Yeh Mera Prem Patr Padhkar to Main Gaaoon Tum So Jao... the contrasts, the range - an endless ocean!!
@@suryasurendran5383 for me it is like comparing Lata(Ghantasala) ji and Asha(Rafi) ji, Asha ji's range is much wider than Lata ji but when it comes to melody and devotional songs, if I had to ever choose, hope not, my pick will be Ghantasala(Lata) ji because of his voice quality, and well oiled classical depth! The song in this video clearly sounds much better in Ghantasala ji' voice to my ears

Ghantasala is very expert in singing Padyamulu. Later Ramakrishna has sung some Padyamulu to his best. Balasubrahmanyam was/is never suitable for singing Padyamulu.

Both are legendary singers.Do not compare them. Telugu speaking people can speak Sanskrit words clearly and Ghantasala not wants to sing other language songs to protect other singers.

Both Rafi Saab and Ghantasala Master are two legends that God has gifted to us (Mankind).
It is not reasonable , proper and fair to say that one is greater than another. One should not do that. Both are equally great. Ghantasala's rendition of Bhagavad-Gita is unique and his voice is full of devinity. It is a classic example of his greatness. Similarly Rafi Saab's rendition of songs of "Man Tarpat Hari Darshan" and "O Duniya ke Rakhvaale " and many others are gems in his career which is an indication of his calibre. One should also note music is devine and personification of Goddess Saraswati. "Madhuban mein Radhika" of Rafi Saheb was a favourite Rafi song for Ghantasala garu , he used to sing it in his live concerts and as such he adapted the tune in an inspired way as “Andaala Raanivai Aadumaa” which could not stand in popularity when compared with “Madhuban Mein Raadhika” of Rafi Saheb... Most of the fans of Ghantasala do not know the existence of this Telugu Song...

Dr Ramagaru - This was an exemplary and excellent thought to present this great legend singers together. You are absolutely light in comparing these two. Undoubtedly ghantasalagaru has exceptional, divine skills which cannot be compared to any other singer on this planet. Rafiji has his own merits and skills which are unique to Hindustani style of singing. But Ghantasalagaru is not only a music professional, he is outstanding music director, song writer and film producer. He exactly knows how to render the song to awaken feelings not only in humans but also in animals (One of my dog sticks to the speaker when his song is played). Rafiji has a special respect and regards of his own separately as a world wide recognised singer. I appreciate people here should recognise the melody in Old Indian Movie songs cannot be even touched by any of the so-called popular singers and musicians of latest film music world. Some singers beat their drums using TV channels to forcibly impress people to portray they are better singer than Ghantasala. But it is utmost foolishness of them to do so...namely SPB

Both are great. The difference is Hindi and telugu have different ways of singing. Ghatasala sir has the advantage of experience in music direction as well.
Rafi and Ghantasala are two eyes of Indian film music one enthralled the audience of south India and another North India (whole Hindi heartland). One cannot be compared with the other. Both are the disciples of Indian Music. Irrespective of their religious backgrounds both are true sons of India.
Both sang excellently in their respective languages. But Ghantasala's tone is the best of all.

It is our personal misperceptions/ wrong illusions to discuss their merits when they had created a Great Memorable History in their respective fields... Soft or Hardness in voice is God's Gift but Melody studded in their versatile and agile voices has entertained us for decades and will do so in the centuries to come ... The stand as ICONS in Hindi and South Indian Music... The established their own styles which today's artistes and youngsters are following today...
We should have fanism but not fanatic favouritism for the LEGENDS ! They BOTH were All Time Great and Good Artistes without any crookedness unlike some subsequent artistes who were unkind to the upcoming artistes by blocking their careers...
They both admired each other and same tunes also happened to sing in their respective language versions of films. Ghantasala used to sing "Chal Ud Jaare Panchi" in his live concerts while his "Payaninche O chilukaa" was a superhit appreciated by Rafi Saheb as a better rendition .... There were certain instances where one tune in one language version has not clicked well in the other l In some cases both the versions clicked very well !

I have listened to both the versions for ever so many years. The debate goes on as to who sang better. Rafi Saab or Ghantasalagaaru. Today I heard this two in one, with my ear phone connected. I feel that the telugu version sounded better due to the sweetness of the language .
You are right in a way. Lyrics play significant part in success of a song .Samudrala should be given credit for the profound philosophy embedded .

Ghantasala's voice suited the heavy tones of NTR & ANR and most Telugu heroes, while Rafi's voice was apt for Hindi heroes like Dilip Kumar & Shammi Kapoor. Rafi understood this, so in Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyaliya, he sings thick for ANR. Both did a good job in their respective language. Yet it cannot be denied that Ghantasala's grasp of the art is greater, given that he is a well trained vocalist and also a composer.

Also not forget the great music directors of their era who also gave great tunes.A song is only as good as its music.How can we belittle other singers who r also legends like Lata,Mukesh,Manna dey,Talat. Each great in their own ability.There r so many unheard songs by these same singers lying in the cans because of defective music.

Both are great singers. there is more perfection in classical point of view in singing by sree ghantasala than janab rafi sir. But we we prefer to listion rafi songs repeatedly as they are sweet and more divine than of ghantasala.
In my openion, rafi's version stands better. Whenever i hear the last two antras of rafi, my eyes are filled with tears. Not with that of ghantasala. Rafi infused feeling into the song as he did it to many other songs..
just not for the music side, i am very much interested in the way the character's were so described /defined in this song, the phylosophy of the world in song. i just suggest one thing to understand my comment is that, please watch the cinema in hindi - bhabhi or kuladaivam in telugu fully : then listen to this song, then it will much more greatefull one will feel. no comparison between, two sugar cubes. thanks dr. saab

Rafi saab's voice very smooth and sweat where as ghantasala master's voice could render navaras' efficiently. Any how rafi Saab got good chances as the Hindi field is wide spread as his melodious voice.

In Baiju bawara Rafi sab songs great songs o dunia ke rakhwale man tarpat tu Ganga ki maujh me admitted then why he didn't sing Akbar court contest songs which is totally classical why those songs were sung by other classical musician clearly shows his deficiency unlike Ghantasala he couldn't sing classical songs with clear pronounciation even that can be observed in Madhuban ke Radhika nachire other side Ghantasala mastaru who is the only successful composer all over India apart from being a play back singer he is great music director also ofcourse he adopted songs at producer director hero request also in remakes but every possible instance shown his master class out of 130 odd pictures he composed 110+ are music black busters also box office success which include LAVAKUSA MAYABAZAT( except four) GUNDAMMA KATHA BANDIPOTU RAKTHA SAMBANDHAM MANCHI MANASUKU MANCHI JARIGINA KATHA BRATUKU TERUVU BHAKTA RAGHUNATHA(own pic) Pandava vanavasam
Rafi Saab was perhaps not in the Classical mould that Ghantsala came from.
But that does not make one greater or the other smaller.
Rafi Saab had the greatest versatility ever - he could sing O Duniya Ke Rakhwale, could sing Jan Pehchan Ho too. He could sing Yeh Mera Prem Patr Padhkar, as well as Jahaa Dal Dal Par Sone ki. He could sing Lal Lal Gal, as well as Aaye Bahar Banke.
Show me one singer - Ghantsala included - who had 1/4th this range!!
I will not touch upon how Rafi Saab moulded his voice for Actors, Music Directors and the scene on which a song was picturised!
While Ghantsala was a classically-trained Playback singer (Yesudas is probably the last classically-trained Playback singer), Rafi Saab was the first true Playback Singer - consciously singing for someone else, rather than singing all songs in the same way!
@@suryasurendran5383 absolutely it makes great difference why Rafi Saab couldn't or didn't sing Akbar court song never Naushad ji nor other disclosed when he is said to be greatest topmost no 1 every adjective used to refer he should also have sung that classical music not only that Ghantasala is the only playback singer who composed music for more than 120 people movies of which 100+ are musical superhits and commercial blockbusters no other playback singer holds this credit except Ghantasala mastaru rarest ragas he used in his compositions he also adopted other tunes when movies are remake of other languages but never missed his mark

Also let me add Ghantasala is not mere play back singer Even after film success never left classical concerts unlike others. Today only K J YESUDAS. is the only singer who sings in classical concerts even after attaining great heights in film playback I respect those who respect the real Sangeetha
