    It's clear. Coffee is all about detail ..another very useful lesson.

      Lol! Some of the juices also get into the coffee grinds making for a great flavour add. 😂👌

    7 lbs = ~3.18 kg not 15 kg.

      Yes, I got them mixed up around the wrong way. I was meant to say 15lbs and 7kg.

    I’m confused - if it’s harder to tamp, wouldn’t that mean the grinds are too coarse and you’d have to grind it finer? It seems like the more powder-like the coffee grinds, the easier it would be to compress (or at least in my experience). Am I misunderstanding?

      @Rydecoffeecoach  Рік тому +1

      Maybe I got them mixed up when I said it but you're right, it is too coarse if you can't tamp down. But if the water isn't coming through then that's an indicator of fine grinds.

    Hello Ryd, does the pattern underneath the tamper such as flat or spiral affect the coffee extraction? Which pattern is better?

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  Рік тому +1

      There have been many attempts to play with the style of the base including a gel pad! but in the end, the flat base has had the most success. 👌 ripples are fine too but stay away from rounded bases.

    What does it mean if the puck sticks to the machine when you remove the basket

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  Рік тому

      Usually it means you haven't left enough headspace above the puck, causing a vacuum and sticking your pick to the group head. Does less so it leaves a 5mm space from the top of the basket lip to the puck OR get a puck screen

    What’s your view on the coffee distributor because I noticed you didn’t use one, also the distributor you can flip upside down and use as a tamper?

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 роки тому +1

      Good question! I have a controversial view on these extra distribution tools: I don't rate them. We've become to fixated on extractions being so precise when the rest of the coffee process is not precise at all. I believe the technology is there to guide you but not to rule you. You should spend money on your grinder and forget about the distribution tools.

      @@Rydecoffeecoach I’ve only got an entry level machine, bought a 1Zpresso J-Max hand grinder (into purely espresso) and a naked portafilter, was just using my tamp and finding my puck over extracting on one side and just generally messy, then I bought a distributor which I use before the tamp and have found my extractions have come on leaps and bounds, really has helped my coffee game, but I do notice that not everyone uses one, was just curious..

    What is the name of the tamper that is wooden handled mentioned last?

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  3 роки тому +1

      Do you mean the Pullman Tamper? That's my preferred one. There's another timber handle one there but it's just a generic one.
