When Floyd Norman says he worked for Disney, he doesn't just mean the company, he worked for Walt Disney himself, while he was still running the studio. A living link to classic Hollywood.
Yep. He worked at Disney during the production of The Jungle Book (1967). It was Walt Disney's final animated film. He sadly passed away 10 months before its release on December 15, 1966, at the age of 65.
It's wonderful when older film legend can go into the closet. Nothing against the young talents, but there's so much history people like this have to offer and it makes their explanations so incredibly fascinating.
Floyd Norman is an absolute legend. He was specifically promoted by Walt Disney himself as the first black animator. He has always been an amazing storyteller as well, was so excited to see this video pop up!
"It tells its story, tells it well and then the film ends, as films should do. When you've told your story, done" Genius, I wish more directors would do that.))
Can't recall if _Rebecca_ has ever gotten love here before, but I smiled that he picked it up, and neat anecdote about his friend's 35mm print & projector.
I actually met Floyd Norman twice a few months ago at D23 Expo and LightBox Expo. He’s was pretty chill and a amazing artist. Definitely would want to buy more of his artwork if I were you guys in the comment section.
Floyd Norman you are a true inspiration to your craft and my favorite Disney animator. When I watch or even think of the Jungle Book, I think of you😂 I wish I could meet you😊
I saw the movie about this guy in the theater near Disney World in florida, you couldn't freakin' find it anywhere for a long time. Glad it's got a home!
I wish you guys would pick up the camera and follow the person in the video like in the old videos, this new static camera angle makes these videos bland and extremely boring.

@@speedracer2008 Yes, because Walt Disney was known to be such a great guy. He was especially fond of Jews if I remember correctly.
@maciek8159 He was , the Sherman brothers loved him. Anymore rumours you want to believe that are unfounded? 😊
He loved his animators. Never outed them to HUAC if they dared breathe the word “Union”. Oh wait.
The man is 87 years old. He doesn’t look a day over 70. Fascinating story teller too.
I think replacing the normal titles with the file name is a good idea.
😂

Wow, Floyd Norman is 87 and is extremely sharp minded!
We need more people like Floyd back in show business...you know, people who actually have a passion for it and aren't just out to destroy it.
File name title goes so incredibly hard
Floyd is an amazing artist. He posts almost daily on Facebook and it's always wonderful.
"It tells its story, tells it well and then the film ends, as films should do. When you've told your story, done"

Just here to pay tribute to the og title before they change it, H264 based.
Can't recall if _Rebecca_ has ever gotten love here before, but I smiled that he picked it up, and neat anecdote about his friend's 35mm print & projector.
One of the most wholesome closet vids I’ve seen!
I want to sit and listen to this man talk for hours. Master class needs his number.
:)
Now where is WEB CLOSET PARK CHAN WOOK H264?
Great pickups Floyd. It’s great to hear these incredible stories attached to your choices 😎
An amazingly talented and eloquent man. I love when the closet guests have their own stories to tell.

Great storyteller. Love this guy. Thank you Criterion for yet another wonderful closet video.
Delightful! After all the great work he has done, he still has the love of Movie Magic! Bless you, Mr. Norman!
Funny how I just recently heard of the documentary about his animation career, and this pops up lol. Lovely coincidence.
what a great old gent is he. would love to run into him somewhere and talk shop.
Sharp-witted, elegant guy with great takes and recommendations! Floyd, you rock!
Forgot to rename the title guys.
For those wondering btw, H264 is the avc codec they are using for the file.
He’s delightful and it’s nice to see the Sabu set get some love!
Yes, about time for Floyd to enter into the closest!!! 🥰🥰🥰
I've never heard of this guy but I already love him to death! Definitely watching the documentary about him on the Criterion Channel!
This was fire, hidden fortress is going to be the next movie I watch

Glad to see the real life inspiration to one of Atlanta's best episodes.
Fascinating guy, great ep

wonderful chap. love his picks.
The confusion some of these early comments will provoke once they correct the error makes me giggle.
They should never have changed it. Live by the sword, die by it. #h264ever
I could just listen to Floyd just talk about anything IDK why but he has one of those voices and vibes.
I'm glad the title of the video wasn't "final final"
Extended Sabu shout-out goes hard
What a classy old gent. This was terrrific. [edit]: My Man Godfrey is on the channel, sweet!
Good sir. You are a gem of a human. thank you.
Does anybody know which camera is being used? It appears h.264 compression is being used.
Not sure, I think they might have exported it for web
@@NowBearInMind thank you Sean
Love seeing Rebecca getting a shoutout ❤
What a fucking legend.
Great guy and great video (regardless of the title)!
What a character. In addition to being an extremely talented artist, I just adore Floyd Norman’s cadence. He oozes quirky authenticity.
I know Floyd wasn't working at Disney then, but I've always thought the Stepmother in Cinderella was strongly inspired by Mrs. Danvers in Rebecca;
Get with the times Criterion, we live in a H265 world now
criterion needs to step it up with animation/ short animation !
Just want to let you know that there is a "h264" in the title.
Got me fucked up on WEB CLOSET FLOYD NORMAN H264
Speaking of Sabu and the Korda siblings, when are we getting the blu-ray of “Thief of Bagdad”? That’s the only reason why I haven’t gone for the DVD
I hope this means Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians and The Jungle Book in the closet 🥰
Living legend
Why not H.265?
This was a good one.
lovely!
You guys should get Joel Haver in here.
Snow White not being on the sight & sound top 100 is a disgrace
He really doesn't look old enough to have worked for Disney in 1966.
Yeah, I was surprised when I read that he's 87.
Nice file name
Did you guys know he worked at Disney? Little known fact.
5.18 stamp time
Man doesn't look a day over 65.
Woo!
Untitled gang!
I'm sure Walt Disney is turning in his grave watching what they are doing to his legacy.
Comment 9334 H-Z2 : Cool video
This legendary animator is 87 years old but he doesn’t look it
