No, Claude and its owner company Anthropic are not related to Alexa or Amazon. Anthropic is an independent artificial intelligence research company, separate from Amazon or any of its subsidiaries. Amazon develops Alexa, their own virtual assistant, while Anthropic created me (Claude) as a separate AI assistant. The two companies and their respective AI assistants are entirely distinct and unaffiliated with each other.
The shift from Amazon's own AI to Claude by Anthropic highlights the growing importance of specialized AI in enhancing user experiences. It’ll be interesting to see how this impacts the smart assistant market.
Claude was considered a supercomputer back in the late 1980s... it use to be only for military and research purposes... crazy how now Claude is being commercialized
Paid subscriptions seems like a déjà vu with the streaming services where everyone wants to charge a subscription. The difference with streaming is the content varies between the streaming companies whereas AI may not, I will not pay for a more intelligent Alexa that I cannot carry around with me.
Thanks for the update. Poor Amazon is not making enough money! Cry me a river. It seems to me the new AI features are what I would expect as standard with the product. I think they can survive any monetary loss, not that I believe they are or would lose a dime.
Why? I pay for Claude. If you do then you know how good it is. Alexa frustrates the hell out of me daily because it is so dumb. At $5 or even $10 a month to get Claude level ability that would be vastly better. Or maybe you rarely use your Alexa devices?
This is one of the best AI channels out there. Personally, I'm going to wait to see what the benefits are. If it raises my life quality meaningfully, it will be worth the investment, as far as I am concerned. But I will need to first see what I get more that I don't get now.

It will be very similar to ChatGPT4. Btw it costs $20 a month to access Claude right now directly through Anthropic so sounds like this will be a deal. Also, this will cost Amazon a lot more money to run than Alexa, LLMs require expensive specialized server hardware and are power hungry.

It should be included in Amazon Prime but the basic free Alexa itself needs upgraded itself, otherwise it will soon look archaic. Amazon is in a bind, they are already having to pay out to Anthropic for access to Claude.
Undecided. I’m guessing other AI avatars (Siri, Google) of similar or higher caliber will be offered for free as part of another package subscription. In other words, since I spend an enormous amount of money on Amazon already, that service should not cost an additional amount. And to say that Amazon doesn’t make (enough) money from Alexa is suspect: Alexa facilitates purchases right from Prime, and those millions of dollars must be calculated as such.

Unfortunatly for Amazon, that ship has already sailed. Whilst AI companies have been developing this kind of technology, Amazon has been too busy redeveloping their speakers, that they forgot to innovate during this process, hence why a majority of these speakers are discovered in secondhand electronic retailers, because they were more of a novelty factor for its consumers. Its going to take a miracle for Amazon to encourage subscribers to pay for what exactly? They should have innovated, whilst delivering their new range of speakers to keep them in the market, but sadly, consumers are not confident in their products anymore and certainly not prepared to pay for this kind of technology, which they have been lagging for so long. RIP alexa/claude AI.
I don’t want to have conversations with Alexa. And I don’t think I would ask need to ask Alexa what I should take on a trip. The whole thing sounds like a solution in search of a problem.
I’m not sure it makes sense to put this behind a pay wall. How will people ever see what they are missing? Surely better to make it part of prime and make sales over updated devices.
LLMs are very expensive to run, it will cost them much more than Alexa. How will people know? This is basically the same thing as Chat GPT4. Also you can sign up for Claude directly to find out but that costs $20 per month and they have lots of subscribers (and Amazon will offer it for less i tegrated into Alexa).
I wont be paying for this. It is a great upgrade and Id probably buy a new device for it but a monthly charge for it is to much. And with Microsoft and Apple doing the same thing, Im guessing amazon will lose market share because of the charge.
According to Reuter's News, Amazon will upgrade your Echo to either a basic AI for free, or you can opt into a more advanced subscription version for a monthly fee. I will not pay for it as I only use it to turn on lights.
The smart thing for Amazon to do is to offer this service free for a year or 6 months. All new tech has glitches, why should i pay for being a beta tester to a product that i feel wont be working well 100% or at least 95% at a time.
By offloading AI, it will be a heck of a lot easier to meet their ESG, carbon neutrality goals. AI datacenters are going to be really hard to power green.
Personally, I think Amazon should roll Claude AI into their prime services instead of charging an extra cost for advancing their AI services. Why should people pay more for something that they have been receiving for free in the past. I think this is a really bad move for Amazon to make. Amazon's cost for their prime services has increased exponentially over the past years anyway, this move may be seen in a bad light especially when their Alexa AI is tied to profits made on their sails of products and services.
I wish I hadn't bought my echos that I have know aside from always struggling with Alexa to understand or carry out commands the echos are very glitchy the experience is not very seamless it can be very stressful as they all have lots of glitches, waste of money I was better off with Alexa app ony phone. I don't really care if they upgrade the AI - I would not pay for it! The stupid stands for echos cost just as much as the actual echos
No Ai for kids without monitoring by parents or guardians for common sense sake. And most devices have their own basic memory from coffee machines to ovens.
No I don't think that you should have a new high cost Alexa whatever you call it let's just keep the old one and find other ways to improve and monetize it I agree with that idea
Nobody wants Alexa to chat with, and they’re not gonna after this. They want to use Alexa as a smart home assistant, and, if Google Assistant -> Gemini is any indication, LLMs are terrible at that for now. - And a huge part of assistants is proactive actions. For example, you want an assistant to know you have an appointment coming up and suggest actions. - This isn’t gonna do that, without a bunch of services they bolt on. And they are sure not gonna invest in those
Yes think it might become obsolete something like Sony Walkmans etc . Won’t pay for it as far too many other options , devices doing the same. I might be wrong .
If it's included with prime then this is great. If they expect a subscription then I'm not interested. Why would anyone consider an Alexa ai subscription over one made by Google or Apple? Alexa is only useful in the home or in the Amazon shopping app. Google/apple ai will be integrated into mobile and available anywhere I am so they have more value. People buy Amazon devices because they are good deals, not because they are the best devices. Why would people looking to save money want to spend subscription money on something like an ai assistant? I don't many people would be willing to pay for this. Their only chance is to bundle this into Amazon prime.
Nope, I am about to cancel my prime subscription. It doesn't even have any value anymore. Removed the music to another subscription, and now they added ads to the movies and TV shows. NO VALUE already
I wouldn't pay for it. I have two Google Home's and Google a already said theirs would be free so why would I pay for Alexa at that point? It's sad to because I have two Echo's.
Making it paid is good. Making the internet free incentivized an advertising revenue model that incentivized societal brain washing. Paying for services directly is better. This still has a direct incentive to gather data on you, so it sucks imo, but good for those that want to.
Its not really an update, its a new service. Alexa was never a true AI this will be. And LLMs are expensive to run so they can't give it away for free.
Finally. As long as I don't have to pay a subscription for it

Even chat gbt40 right now is really crap when it comes to that I can't remember this I don't know that I'm an AI language model I'm not allowed to do that and so on. They lobotomized it pretty heavy at one point and still haven't gone back and fixed it. I like the idea of not having to use the Wake word Alexa as an example. I want to be able to give the AI a custom wake word to make it feel more personable and I want to be able to talk back and forth with it more like I'm talking to a person and less like I'm talking to the computer on Star Trek. Right now the best options I have are computer and Ziggy as alternate wake words. Honestly would really love if the thing was able to swear but I know they're not going to do that unfortunately. I'd love to be able to do stuff like say good morning honey how are you feeling today and have the unit respond in at least a remotely human manner. Even if it's cracking a joke about me calling it honey. I've done stuff like this playing around with the meta AI on the quest headset unfortunately it only has a memory window of about three or four minutes it doesn't have any kind of memory storage
@@peterparker6584 I 100% agree on the custom wake word, I hate the standard choices. Regarding the AIs remembering your name and such I'd guess probably not but maybe with Alexa. The thing is the LLMs start over from a blank slate each time. But technically Alexa does know who its users are so just maybe they might do that. But I wouldn't expect too much more. LLMs are capable of a lot currently but to make them practical and keep the costs down they are standardized.
I would pay extra if Alexa had image recognition. Like if Alexa could tell me what kind of spider I had in my house or if a plant outside is poison ivy.
Ideally they should pay us for sharing our soooo much private stuff to train their experimental AI
Correct
Claude was considered a supercomputer back in the late 1980s... it use to be only for military and research purposes... crazy how now Claude is being commercialized
I have a mic, a speaker and a 12GB gpu. All I need is the software and glue to make my own. I already have an Anthropic api account.
Paid subscriptions seems like a déjà vu with the streaming services where everyone wants to charge a subscription. The difference with streaming is the content varies between the streaming companies whereas AI may not, I will not pay for a more intelligent Alexa that I cannot carry around with me.
Is it available yet
Thanks for the update. Poor Amazon is not making enough money! Cry me a river. It seems to me the new AI features are what I would expect as standard with the product. I think they can survive any monetary loss, not that I believe they are or would lose a dime.
Threw out my Alexa devices over a year ago along with Prime, and I have not seen my life degraded one bit.
Would only pay it if I could use the same account for Claude Pro in my PC
It depends on how much it would change my life for the better.
It adds the “buy now” algorithm on top of Alexa
OpenAI made chat gpt with subscription, so why not having Alexa boosted with Claude by subs?
You will pay for it anyway buying Amazon products.
Is that a per device subscription or a per home?
Knowing Amazon, I think we can guess
I pay them too much now!! I throw them away before I pay more.
Amazon: $10
Me: no
Amazon: ok, how about $5
Me: no!
Amazon: how about tree fiddy
Me: dammit Amazon, I work for my money. I ain't givin you no tree fiddy.
How much money does Amazon need? When is enough enough for that monopoly?
I know it's "complicated " but I hear they technically lose money, but gain it elsewhere or something. Don't quote me on that tho
They just need money printing machines and plates. I won't pay extra for this shit.
This is actual AI that you can have conversations with, ask complex question to, etc. It will be vastly more capable than Alexa. Basically if Alexa were a toddler Claude would be a teenager. It will be very similar to ChatGPT4. Btw it costs $20 a month to access Claude right now directly through Anthropic so sounds like this will be a deal. Also, this will cost Amazon a lot more money to run than Alexa, LLMs require expensive specialized server hardware and are power hungry.
@@jaredlalalmaybe but still, why do companies always feel the need to grow, it‘s insane! I mean after I buy a house, or maybe 2 houses or 3 houses and 5 cars, what else do you want? I mean at some point the have more money than they will ever spend, its insane
It should be included in Amazon Prime but the basic free Alexa itself needs upgraded itself, otherwise it will soon look archaic. Amazon is in a bind, they are already having to pay out to Anthropic for access to Claude.
My mom got rid of her Alexa because she was afraid it was listening in to the house...
She is absolutely right. Of course her phone is listening to her too, which is less fixable.
I own multiple Alexa units and I would definitely not pay a monthly subscription to use any of them once I've already purchased the expensive units...my cellphone is is good enough for that Ai stuff..so good luck to them
I want a split in hardware and software vendors and I want full control over my AI assistant including the collected personal data.
Just the fact that I can't hear a audio stream with my old Alexa without forced commercial interruptions is a complete no go. I was able to listen to uninterrupted music streams f-ing 20 years ago, but nowadays big corporations want to stand in my freedom or have me pay regularly for no reason? No way! F Amazon, Google, Apple and sadly nowadays even Windows!
When do i get Anna de Armas?
No more money. I have also Amazon Prime
If they decide to make it part of prime, then they will surely increase prime annual costs.
If I'm going to pay extra for AI it's not going to be for Alexa. I rather pay for Grok or Chat.
FYI Claude is better than Gemini & Grok and about equal to Chat GPT 4O.
privacy is out of the window once you are using a smart phone or connecting to the internet, and people will pay for the best service. Tell us more about the Asian AI development, Chinese and Japanese "I don't think these are just sitting there with their PS5s lol".
Thanks a lot for the great feeds, and keep up the good work 👍👍
Not interested in subscription services. 😂😂😂😂
"open the pod bay door Alexa". "Give me $7.99 first"
Unfortunatly for Amazon, that ship has already sailed.
If it like the AI system that was in the movie Atlas on Netflix, I would definitely pay
So revolutionary! A new name! Wow!
alexa has balls and a deeper voice now
I don’t want to have conversations with Alexa.
Also you can sign up for Claude directly to find out but that costs $20 per month and they have lots of subscribers (and Amazon will offer it for less i tegrated into Alexa).
will check out from Amanzon in my home after this info!!!
Todos os países deveriam se juntar e ir contra a ideia de que devemos pagar para ter uma IA mais avançada. Isso não se faz com os usuários.
The Alexa service has been "free", because it was supposed to drive sales. So I'm supposed to pay extra for it to not say "I didn't get that"?
I would love it paying or not 😊
5,- USD would be fair enough to pay the energy.
It's like everything, if it helps with our daily lives, saves us time and just over all surviving issues, I would pay for it. 😎
I dont see it on Amazon yet so we will see
By offloading AI, it will be a heck of a lot easier to meet their ESG, carbon neutrality goals.
This sounds like a hedge. Amazon knows this won't sell great. Amazon knows sell shovels don't pan for gold.
No Ai for kids without monitoring by parents or guardians for common sense sake. And most devices have their own basic memory from coffee machines to ovens.
I would pay $5 bucks to try it
What if we pay for claude allready
For sure not playing for it. 😅
I personally don’t see the problem with this at all
I pay five bucks, but no more as I'm already paying $20 a month for check GTP and $20 a month for Gemini
No I don't think that you should have a new high cost Alexa whatever you call it let's just keep the old one and find other ways to improve and monetize it I agree with that idea
I pass
Omg, 6 or 7 seconds! What ever shall we do? Lmao. I won't be paying a subscription fee for an Ai assistant.
Nope. No more subscriptions. I’m being subscriptioned to death. This should be an automatic upgrade.
Hey Siri, what’s news with you? 😂
Hard pass. They were already charging more for prime. Unbunling from prime is a huge mistake when prime is already an escalating expense.
Will not play subscription updates show be free
If that could be possible where Iive, I would gladly pay 10 dollars.
I love Alexa. ❤❤❤❤❤I can't wait .🎉🎉🎉🎉
Rage against the machine learning.
Amazon should try to develop very tiny pineapples.
Yes
I pay five dollars, but I will never pay $10 a month
I like the bad answers Alexa gives now, why would I want to lose that?!?
Why pay more for an update?
Its not really an update, its a new service. Alexa was never a true AI this will be. And LLMs are expensive to run so they can't give it away for free.
No. There are too many subscription items out there already.
I like Claude AI for the most part👍🏼
... Can't stand Alexa!🤷🏼 😂
