Daringly confident in its conventional harmonies used in an unconventional way. Melodically reminiscent of Messiaean's Quartet for the End of Time. Timbre all of its own.
Turning the radio on, midway in the concert, hearing this with no knowledge of its origin, being bowled over by the music, then following it up and finding recordings of almost all his music. What a tragic loss was his murder. I'd advise anyone interested to seek out the DVD of his music, which contains most of his mature pieces as well as a fine documentary, just to see the effect of the music on Reinbert de Leeuw.
Très belle interprétation! Dans le 4e mouvement, il aurait été intéressant de respecter les chiffres métronomiques de Vivier. 60, 45, 30(!), 45. Ce symbolisme est crucial…
Absolument sans intérêt? Vraiment??? Entirely without interest? Really. Any piece that causes one to post 'Entirely without interest' is one with which one has had to engage to determine one's lack of interest, therefore engendering several reasons for why the piece is in one's opinion 'quelconque', mediocre, 'false genius,' whatever.
There seems to be a growing interest in the man. An increasing number of his music's performances are being published and ensembles are more than often taking up the challenge to perform his music. Slowly but surely Vivier is emerging as a composer thanks to brilliant people such as Reinbert De leeuw and Thérèse Desjardins from the Fondation Vivier. Both passed away now but the baton has been passed onto the younger generation, making Claude Vivier even more notorious than before, right as it should be. And to put this in perspective, Franck Mousset, has been, still is and always will be totally unknown, in fact irrelevant throughout the entire whole wide world!
