  • Learn how to use Adobe Fresco's Vector Trim and Erase Tools to create a Monstera plant illustration.
    Hi everyone! Happy #MonsteraMonday!
    For this week's tutorial, we're going to take a closer look at the vector tools inside #AdobeFresco and create this colorful, textured Monstera plant illustration. I'll show you, step by step, how I used a mix of vector and raster brushes as well as the vector tools to create the shapes, cutouts, texture, and color in my illustration. You can easily create this using the built in brushes and tools, even in the free version of the app.
    I'm using a color palette with a mix of greens, blues and yellows but you can use any color palette you would like. I highly recommend Adobe's color site for palette ideas. If you are in a Creative Cloud subscription, you can save your palette to your library and it will automatically be loaded in to Fresco. Find it here: color.adobe.com/create/color-...

    *HI ALL!* For those who want to use the snap to a straight line feature, make sure it's ON in your settings. When you're in a document, go to the cog at the top right and then select "App Settings" at the bottom. Once in there, open the "Input" category, and make sure that " *_Snapline_* " is toggled on under the Touch settings. Once that's on, when you draw a straight line and hold, it should snap to a straight line. **

      Do you still have the plus sign, eye to turn layer visibility on and off and the clipping icon?
      If all of them are missing then there are a two occasions where the happens: if your Layer icon isn’t selected or you have Transform selected. If your layers icon isn’t highlighted, just tap it and you should see the left menu show up. If you have Transform selected (the icon with the four arrows and a separate pointer facing up to the left) then click Done at the top and the menu should come back.
      Otherwise the three dots shouldn’t disappear on their own. I haven’t had that happen to me outside of the two situations I mentioned above so I’m at a loss otherwise. Perhaps try closing the app out and restarting it to see what happens.

    Hi, thank you😊 for such a great teaching 💖 I have a question though, I was wondering about this the whole tutorial, is it possible to save this entire work in a full vector image? Since there was raster painting involved.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much for watching, and for the lovely compliment Muskarla! Since there are raster elements, you would need to take the full illustration in to Adobe Illustrator (either desktop or iPad) and use Image Trace/Vectorize to convert the raster elements to vectors. The cool thing about Adobe Fresco is that you can export directly in to either (under the Export options) and go from there. If you don't have Illustrator, you could try taking it in to Adobe Capture and converting it there. You can't finesse it as much in Capture as you can Illustrator but you can still get a vector image out of it.
      I hope this helps! If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
      Thank you again!

    Do you know if you can find where your path is not closed when it fills the entire canvas for you? Many times I've studied the entire path and maybe the stroke was too thin and made it open, but it has driven me crazy. I've switched to using the lasso tool for filling because I could never find where my path was open a lot.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  3 роки тому

      Hi Kaylene! Since there are no visible node tools to view, short of zooming in to spots where I think I may have missed or going back over thin areas, like those you have mentioned, I haven't found a way to easily locate open spots. More "Drawing Tools" are on their list of things to come with Fresco and I'm hoping that one of them is a way of better manipulating the vectors. It is definitely a pain!!

    hi tracey, your tutorial is great!
    do you have any way how to export file from fresco to adobe illustrator, i have problem with that. multiple image layers merge into one and turn into an image file, and I can't edited it. thank you if you are willing to answer it.

      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Рік тому

      Thank you very much Yeti, and thank you for watching!
      I'm not sure the format you're using to export. Rather than export, if you choose "Open a Copy" from the Export menu, and then choose either the Illustrator for iPad or Illustrator for Desktop app, it should open it in the exact layer order (and separation) that you created in Fresco.
      Hope this helps solve your issue!

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Рік тому

      Hi Rodarius! Great question. You don't have to use the built in eraser. You can use any brush as an eraser simply by holding your finger down on the touch selector while you use it. This applies to all brushes, both raster and vector. So, if there is a brush that fits the size you're looking for, perhaps try using that to erase. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    I'm enjoying your class. I've been using Fresco for a couple of months now and I'm lovin' it so far. How are you able to import color palettes in the library? I always had to import a photo of a palette & pick from there. I would really love to save some color palettes in my library.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Lia! Thank you for watching! If you are using the subscription version of Fresco, there are a few ways you can save palettes to the Cloud Library. The first is to use Adobe's color site. (I will link it at the end of this). You can create your own palette or search trending palettes and save them to your Library with your Adobe subscription. You can also use Adobe Capture's color section. Capture is a free app and will allow you to create and save a color palette to your Library with your Adobe subscription. It allows you to import and image and it will help you create the palette to save from there. I hope this helps! Thank you again for watching!

    I was wondering if there was something special I have to do to get that eraser tool to work, like when you just tap and the whole section erases? Mine won’t do that.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  2 роки тому

      Hi Julie! If you hold your finger down on the touch selector it will act as a vector eraser. If you tap and hold the selector then drag out so that it’s a large filled circle it will enable the vector trimmer and you can trim away whatever marks cross over others as long as you hold your finger down. You have to make sure you still have the vector brush selected for the trimmer to be enabled and it will only work on vector lines, not pixel. Also, make sure you are on the right layer if you have multiple.
      One final thing to note…If you try to trim an area that Fresco doesn’t seem as crossed over another, it won’t trim bits, it will just take the whole shape away
      (If you don’t want to have to hold your finger down while you erase or trim you can also lock it on. You can double tap and enable and lock the eraser or double tap and pull out so you see a ring and it will enable and lock the vector trimmer. When you double tap you can let your finger off the selector and then double tap it again when you’re done.)
      Please let me know if you are still running in to issues after reading the above, or have any questions!

    Every time I try this it erases like 70 percent of my lines and idk why . It only works correctly every now and then

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  3 роки тому

      Eddie, do you mean it only erases 70 percent of a single line you are trying to vector trim? If so, it may be that it is where a previous intersection, that you have already trimmed, was. So it effectively splits that line in certain spots so you have to vector trim two individual lines (even if they look like one line to start) rather than one.
      If you mean that, overall, it is only trimming 70% of the lines in the entire shape you have created, that is a puzzle. As long as you are trimming the ends off intersections, or trimming away entire lines that haven't already been split in the manner I mentioned above, it should let you trim them.
      How is it behaving incorrectly and I may be able to help further.
      Thank you!

  • @robertwelsh2558

    Vector erase is unnecessarily complicated. On Clip Studio to erase a vector line all you do is select the Vector Erase tool, swipe through the line, the line is gone. No pinching, etc. I haven't found a way to swipe erase a line in one stroke on my desktop PC and I am using a Wacom Intuos graphics tablet.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Рік тому

      Robert, unfortunately, I only have access to the iPad version, where you can easily swipe through a line to erase. Maybe others, on Adobe's Fresco forum, who share your same setup have similar experiences? I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work the same as an iPad if that's how it's intended to work, but, without being able to try it myself, I am unable to comment on your experience. I'm sorry!

    How to save a file with transparent background in Adobe fresco.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  3 роки тому +3

      Hi! You can save a transparent file by turning off your background layer and saving the file as a png. Go to the very bottom layer and click the eye with the line through it to hide that layer (and any others that are in the background) until you see the transparent layer. Then go to the Export panel, choose, Export As and make sure you have png selected. If you have any additional questions, let me know. Thank you!

      @@xyznetwork45 so you are seeing the transparent background before you even save it and it's not saving that way?
