  • Homeschool curriculum choices 2022-2023 - let's chat about them! I'm kicking off these videos with my first grade curriculum picks! When making my first grade homeschool curriculum choices, I really wanted to lean into Charlotte Mason curriculum. While we're not Charlotte Mason homeschool purists and definitely include things that reflect our eclectic homeschooling, my first grade curriculum choices definitely pull from the tenets of a Charlotte Mason education. You'll see throughout my homeschool curriculum choices that we have a Charlotte Mason inspired homeschool, and I'm intentionally trying to embrace that this year. Charlotte Mason homeschooling truly provides such a beautiful educational feast, and I'm so excited for the 2022-2023 homeschool year!
I have more homeschool curriculum videos coming your way, so stay tuned! I hope you enjoyed learning about our 1st grade homeschool curriculum choices! Share your homeschool curriculum picks in the comments!

As a first time Homeschooler this fall, I have loved Watching your videos. I've actually been binging them over the last week or so -- esp the book hauls. Thanks for providing such awesome content and information for those of us who are just starting out.
Spanish is the 2nd language that I'm wanting to have my girls learn throughout school, so this was awesome! I'll definitely be checking out that site.
I also never thought to check out ebay for early readers.

Well I just learned from you how Primer is pronounced! We will not have a first grader this year, but in the past we have loved Pinwheels from Rooted in language and I am excited to try out the new Quill program from Brave Writer this year (we love Brave Writer around here!). We love learning through literature around here as well! So we do a ton of that as well.

Thank you so much!! 🥰🥰 Our start date is this Monday, August 1! We’ll be taking a couple weeks to settle in though, so we’ll start with language arts, math, and morning time, add in our other subjects the following week, and then the enrichment classes the girls take at our homeschool fine arts academy start the week after that, and we’ll be fully transitioned to our fall schedule.

    I have a 1st grader too!
My son started the good and beautiful and we love it! My 3 year old girl started good and beautiful for preschool and she loves it. We use Handwriting, math and language arts in The Good and the Beatuiful.
We also use preschool prep, meet the phonics and math facts from utube (we pay the $14.99 for no commercials).
I work fulltime and love your videos to see your love of home school and visually see different options we could use to add. I like to add little things here and there to change it up but keep the learning structure still going.
My son asks to spell things all the time so I am also looking to implement some type of spelling. Right now we are choosing 3 words and writing them twice a few times a week. We also take a flash card then try and spell the word on a white board then put the card in a hard see through sleeve where he can practice writing it a few times (with a dry erase marker) while I practice the same with my daoughtor but, with letters. It's helped a lot but, kept spelling fun and low pressure.
The key for us has been allowing my children to pick out their writing utensils to do school with. For writing they use markers, for language arts they use a pen(my son) or a color pencil (my daoughtor). We have tried several circulums with my son and as long as my kids can choose their writing utensil they do the lessions. I've been the particular one on what we use🙂
I've watched you for years. We are very simular in that we both research and educate ourselves in most everything we share with others. Another reason I really enjoy your videos because I feel like I can trust your opinions❤.
So greatful us Moms have this wonderful opportunity to home school our children! Have a blessed year! May God guide you during this year and continue to bless your home with joy and health!

Great choices! I love pulling everything together with different curricula too! We used Sonlight B last year and are on C now. We’re loving it and my daughter has enjoyed all the 1st-3rd books and is now on to the 4th grade set. That’s pretty good for an almost 3rd grader. She’s a voracious reader because I always try to have good books on hand. But she’s just naturally a good reader. I feel like I had very little to do with that! 😂

We started our homeschool year July 5. For my first grader, I'm trying out TGATB for math and English this year, but I'm considering going back to Blossom and Root next year. We're also doing Live Love Letter (I think) unit studies this year, but I probably won't do those again next year. They're very time consuming to be something I paid for 😂 I'm using old textbooks for Social Studies and Reading, and an ArgoPrep workbook for Science (it's awesome!). Explode the Code, of course, and Evan Moor Spelling.

My son is learning how to read as well and I have been on the hunt for some quality readers. I have to Usborne my first library as well. I don’t know what you think about the good and the beautiful, but they just released “my first nature reader” (and second and third as well) and the illustrations are so beautiful. They also have a silver and gold series which are hardback books that are level 1B and 2, which I assume is about 1st and second grade levels that are like mini chapter books. I love the illustrations and quality of their books and was hunting for more so I ended up purchasing the readers from the all about reading curriculum, but just the readers. Apparently they recently updated their readers with colored illustrations. I was hoping the two bookshelves in our library of readers would be useful, but most of the level 1s are so difficult… I don’t know who is in charge of determining the levels. I wish it were universal. But they did have the bob books so I was able to snag those since I didn’t want to buy them. Thanks for sharing some more examples of readers.

We loved Math with Confidence for kindergarten! I can’t speak to their first grade curriculum since I didn’t try it, but I used Math Mammoth with for second grade with my other daughter and really liked the way it was set up. My daughter Rowan is naturally gifted at math and picks things up very quickly, so I was okay with departing from the gentleness of Math with Confidence to move more quickly and at her speed. It’s been a great fit.

There are a lot of workbooks I would like to try but I won't for that reason. This is our 3rd year homeschooling. My first grader will be doing Evan Moor skill sharpeners workbooks and Reading Eggs and Mathseeds Workbooks. Love these books! I love how every family finds what works for them.
