Lyrics:
A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper
"Go to sleep. Everything is all right."
I close my eyes, then I drift away
Into the magic night, I softly say
A silent prayer like dreamers do
Then I fall asleep to dreams, my dreams of you
In dreams I walk with you, in dreams I talk to you
In dreams you're mine, all of the time
We're together in dreams, in dreams
But just before the dawn, I awake and find you gone
I can't help it, I can't help it, if I cry
I remember that you said goodbye
It's too bad that all these things
Can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams, in beautiful dreams

My daughter died in 1976 this song helps me to this day. Now my husband of 26 yrs has been gone 5yrs now. Lots of meaning
My condolences, god bless you and grant your daughter a place in heaven amen.
I can relate😔
My sincere condolences

God bless your sweet soul. Your daughter and your husband will be close to your heart for ever . A warm🤗 from Rome (Italy)
One of the most beautiful songs ever
When this song premiered in 1963, I was in the 8th grade. I loved it the moment I heard it. There was something magical about the composition, the range of Roy's voice. I am now 70. As a Viet Nam era veteran, I never dreamed (see what I am doing here) I would live to see the 21st Century. Yet, here it is! It is 2019. I am still here. And so is Roy in this wonderful song.
me too, loved pretty woman. I was a senior in 8th grade. Drafted. Not killed. Still here to listen to Roy.
when you were in 8th grade. Senile.
@@spinningbackspin I'd much rather be senile than rude!
he wasn't rude - he was calling himself senile because his first post meant to say he was a senior when YOU were in 8th grade
God bless you, and thank you for your service.
The astounding thing about this song is that it keeps evolving from beginning to end, without ever doubling back on itself. No repeated verses or bridges or choruses--just movements. One of the great masterpieces in the history of popular music.
Yes, it's a rare example of a modern through-composed song.
@@4Topwood Durchkomponiert, as we Germans would say.
Well said.
@@axelbiehl419 Yes, that what I usually say, too, when discussing classical music (e.g. Beethoven 's "Adelaide") Here, I thought English might be better.
A similarly written classic from that era is El Paso from Marty Robbins. Like this, a story told from beginning to end with no repeated lines .
This song describes one of the most awful feelings someone could experience. I hope any of you going through this find peace. I also hope I find peace.
And awful indeed
@@bravium Roy probably wrote this after his wife was killed on a motorcycle in front of his eyes. But in another respect, to lose a love and now and then he comes back to you in a dream is kind of sweet even though he may be coming as an archetype for another man. Dreams hide truth by using archetypes
Elvis Presley said Roy had the best voice in Rock n Roll...let THAT sink in!

Saw Roy in Yorkshire in the sixties
His voice will live on forever

*A message to the future generations:*
_Don't let this song die._
Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future.

Oh we won't. Do not worry :)

One of the prettiest songs ever recorded.
Absolutely.
But also sad
My dad passed away suddenly in 2021 from a heart attack, and we played this song later at his funeral. The night after he died I dreamt about him coming to me and giving me a big hug to say goodbye.
Whenever I miss him I listen to this song. He's the reason why I love Roy's music.
I miss you and love you so much dad. I wish you were still with us 💔
The same exact reason for me too. My dad is the reason I got into Roy Orbinson, he was there when no one else was. I know your dad is always with you when that Roy Orbinson is playing🙏

May your father rest in peace, i hope he meets Roy in heaven and have a great time.
I’m very sorry 🌹🕊️
I’m sorry about your Dad Daniel, may he rest well and be dancing to this one up there.
What a wonderful tribute. I will not forget any of those who were moved by Roy. He was one of a kind and never to be equaled. RIP for your father. May you find peace--and joy in his love of this song.
Alan Wake bought me here. I love Roy, but I didn’t know this song. Beautiful.
I wonder how many people who heard that song there didn't know its use in that game was probably a homage to Blue Velvet, judging what I know of Alan Wake.
I read a book about Roy and the author said they were blown away when he hit the high notes in CRYING without using falsetto. That is his own range. Three octaves.
Roy wrote this entirely on his own...he heard it in his sleep, woke up, started jotting it down, and finished this beautiful song in less than 20 min
Talk about inspiration
Wow! I couldn't remember the music I hear whenever I wake up from a dream I have every night.
Wonderful!!!

Same. And I knew this song before I saw that movie. But it’s a fucking FABULOUS scene. “Candy-colored clown! Candy-colored clown!”
I don't know why this song consistently reminds me of my horse that just passed away.

I saw that movie 28 years ago at 14 after hearing about it in magazines and movie review books.
It amazed me yet disturbed me so much I had a few bad dreams about Frank at that age
I always been a flick fan. Then I was about 20 or 21 and convinced my argentinian mate to take some puffs and watch Blue Velvet. By the time this song played he went into a transe he never forgot. I was proud
One of my favourite films and favourite songs. Not sure if I love or hate that I immediately think of Dennis Hopper angrily smearing lipstick on his face to this Lol

"Roy Orbison is the best singer I've ever heard!" - Elvis Presley......."Elvis and Roy Orbison, now those 2 boys....they could really SING you a song!" - Sam Phillips of Sun Records

The oldies stations refer to Roy Orbison as "The Voice" and that he is. Such a talented artist
Nothing brought me here but this amazing song.
My grandad recently passed away and he always played Rob Orbison with a cigar in one hand and a glass of brandy in the other. This song brings me comfort and I imagine him singing it as his goodbye to the whole family. I’ll miss you Gramps x
What a voice he had. This is my favorite Orbison song. When he hits the high notes, it sends chills down my spine. Can't believe he's been gone almost 35 years. RIP Roy.
He was truly amazing, he is so sorely missed! This used in Blue Velvet and In Dreams and Blue Bayou are just poetic and so esoteric, love his compassion in his lyrics.

In 1963 I was 16 years old and I thought I was in heaven hearing this song. One hit after the other, Roy always seemed to top himself. This was music in the sixties for those of you not lucky enough to be there. No words, the delivery> Roy RIP your music lives forever
For years I thought I was weird, and alone, for loving Orbison and his voice as I did. I had grown up with him, as a teenager in the late 50s-early 60s, and while others were rocking to Elvis, Jerry Lee, and others, I was a closet Orbison fan and stayed so throughout his "dark period" in the 70s and into the 80s. I saw him at Jonathan Swift's in Harvard Square sometime in the early 80s, then a few years later at Symphony Hall in Boston. It wasn't until Blue Velvet, Mystery Girl, and his comeback that I felt any kind of vindication for sticking with him when few others remembered him. To hear the likes of Springsteen, Bono, Robert Plant, Bernie Taupin, Barry Gibbs, and others sing his praises (if not his songs) was even sweeter. He was, and still is, the greatest voice of his generation. Vocally (not necessaarily stylistically) his only peers were John Denver and Jay Black of Jay and the Americans.
Roy always thuggin it wit the shades🔥🔥 beautiful song a lot of people don’t know Roy Orbison and Elvis were best friends
