    The reason for that is the way the preliminary battles were set up. There were two battles going on at the same time. Which is why you might hear the same songs in a different battle.
    It cut the battle time down by half. Giving enough time for cyphers and stuff.

    Gamblers did awesome,
    but crazy moves can be appreciated by EVERYONE, that's the point, those moves are crowd pleasers. Only hardcore dancers in a genre, can appreciate every little detail, step, sweep, change in facial expression, speed, manifestation of what to picture when executing every movement, be it fluidity, tensing up in the right time, etc.

    Aside from the first guy for gamblers did any of them do decent solo throwdowns? Just cheap routines and aggressive floor tactics. Path... the routines were good i'll grant them.
    However I thought the highlight was the solo starting from 0:48. You don't see something that awesome so often.

  • @BBoyKhai
    @BBoyKhai 17 років тому

    most battles have almost nothing to do with working together. using routines/commandos just makes it look like the weaker members are hiding behind the routine. the only thing that the crew has to do thats together is support each other (ex: starting a soul clap or hyping up the crowd) and let the individual bboys rock that shit.

  • @BelligerentWombat

    They would if Gamblers would stop doing crowd pleasing routines.
    This is supposed to be about circles and breaking which is inherently different than "You got served". You might note, in that film the actual breakers only turned up at the end to do solos.

  • @BelligerentWombat
    @BelligerentWombat 16 років тому

    I agree, they are prevalent these days and all bboy crews do them to ensure they win.
    This is what concerns me about judging though. Judges have a huge influence on how people dance cause crews want to win tourneys. I don't think Judges really appreciate the power they have. That's why a lot of breakers don't do odd stuff or risky moves because objective judging favours standard bboying, execution and cleanliness.
    I worry that crews do routines not cause they want to but cause they want to win.

    My comment said, "crazy moves can be appreciated by EVERONE." You're replying to me like you're disagreeing, but your comment agrees with what I said anyway. I'm just saying that for those to appreciate the dance details of how to ride the music, can only happen by hardcore dancers, not just regular spectators, whereas big moves, can be appreciated by both the hardcore dancer, and the spectator. I think you misunderstood my comment.

  • @Holyfiremikey
    @Holyfiremikey 17 років тому

    most of the crowd would be breakers who started third to fourth generation, from the 90's through 2000, but the qualified judges may be guys from the 80's, or knew and hung out with/breaked and learned, from second generation bboys.
    You said, all the hardcore dancers appreciated Gamblers. I replied by saying yes, Gamblers were appreciated by the hardcore dancers for their big moves. So I'm not even disagreeing with you,

    When I started breaking back in 2000 breaking wasn't about big shows, wasn't about big routines, it was about solos. Then something happened about 2004 and now you can't win events if you don't have routines.
    This gamblers crew represents almost everything I hate about modern breaking, I appreciate their technique but they should drop the routines and learn how to solo, how to innovate.

    Since when does doing crazy "stuffs" become more important in dancing than ...dancing to the music??
    This is dancing.
    "Crazy stuffs" is more important in tricking, gymnastics, or the circus.
    You don't have to know a lot about dance to understand crazy moves, you just see a big move and most everyone just says "wow!" EVeryone gets it, it looks amazing.

  • @thepathablaze
    @thepathablaze 16 років тому

    sorry but dance is expression and while doing great technical moves is an achievement, ichigeki's members are the best bboys in the world at breaking to music using whatever methods, often inventive, they please cuz they're just that damn good..

  • @Holyfiremikey
    @Holyfiremikey 17 років тому

    The only thing I said, was that there are other crews who can do foundation better than GAmblers, but the reason people would pick Gamblers is because they have bigger and crazier blowups.
    Yes, the crowd of real bboys may have thought Gamblers won, but tell me why? Can you honestly say, "Gamblers won because they had stronger foundational footwork, and better toprocks?"

  • @Holyfiremikey
    @Holyfiremikey 17 років тому

    No, you said it yourself, it's because they do "crazy stuff" and that is appreciated by EVERYONE, that means, the regular spectator, and those who are real bboys and bgirls.
    Now can you say that, say, "Gamblers won because they had stronger footwork." You can't right, because it isn't true. But, I agree they are crazy good, because of their big moves, and that's what we agree on, there's nothing we're disagreeing here about,

    Read my comments again, I said Gamblers were appreciated.
    Were you there at the event? How do you know the crowd all thought that Gamblers won?

  • @Holyfiremikey
    @Holyfiremikey 17 років тому

    And even if all of the audience may go to the ice rink every week, or took some figure skating lessons a couple years, doesn't mean they'll be as qualified to judge as world class olympic judges, who probably were professional champion skaters when they were young.
    The judges were probably veteran bboys who are more knowledgeable on what makes a good bboy, not what makes a person a better gymnast or trickster. There might be as qualified bboys in the crowd, but only a small minority,

    And even so, not EVERY bboy is going to be as experienced and knowledgeable about bboying, and its history, as possibly the judges were. You have a big majority of bboys in the scene who care more about the big moves too, and not the music.
    Just because most of the audience at a figure skating match, thought one skater had better form, does not mean that this is true, that's left up to the more experienced judges.

    you can appreciate clean footwork, but these dudes are young and should bring originality. sorry but foundation and dancing beats are necessary, but guys like miracles and alieness are some of the few that have enough technicality and flavor in their footwork to battle with just that, yet you see them do other things as well. i understand what you are saying, but very few have the ability to pull off a set of straight footwork to get you hype

  • @Holyfiremikey
    @Holyfiremikey 17 років тому

    But not everyone is going to consider a guy doing clean footwork amazing, they might find it boring, unless they are aware of what it takes to make clean footwork.

  • @squ1nty
    @squ1nty 17 років тому

    But it's not like Ichigeki's footwork was so exceptional that even if Gamblerz lacked it, they would win.

    Oooooooh GOOOOSH! Freaking eboys! Bboy stands for break boy. And bboying is the only Hip Hop dance! Popping, locking, etc.. Are not even part of Hip Hop, alright? Dude, learn the history, the art, the dance before you say something stupid.
    Haaa... Holy cow.. Jabba is mainly pop, lock, etc.. Some of them do bboy moves as part of their dance routine, but they are not bboys.

    This is _not_ revolutionary. That's what i'm saying. Gamblers are doing stuff i've seen TIME AND TIME again. As far as I see nothing has changed in the past 4 years+.
    Ichigeki are pushing it, the solo from 0:48, that's fresh, that's something you don't see everyday.
    The routines are old and tame. This is no next level this is just everyone continuing to bite the same people DoKnock/Cloud/Etc that has been going on since 2003, wrapping it up in a routine is no more inventive.
