I'm not a fan of UA-cam shorts personally, but I'd rather watch you guys shorts than a lot of the stuff that's on there. It does mean a lot of the people who enjoy the working on cars videos are going to lose interest and go else where in the mean time, obviously I know Ian cannot help being ill. Hope some of the older style tinkering videos come back, as those are some of the reason I started watching HubNut in the first place. Show reports don't really do it for me unfortunatley, but everyone is different. I wish Ian a speedy recovery!
For me they are a pain in the arse, I watch youtube on a pc and every time a new short is released it shows as a new vid along with my other subscriptions, yet when you get to the hubnut channel get disappointed that its just another short
I totally agree with you! I am not paying contribution for shorts! I've started being a member of the channel for the video's! Especially those about that camper of them. I know during winter it's a bit of, but they could think about repairing or replacing parts inside the camper! No, I don't want to see these SHORTS anymore!
I've been a long time sub, I don't mind the shorts about specific cars like the blue Astra but not other shorts. It makes sense to get to another audience and go for it, you have my full support. Carly, you were right, youtube has replaced my tv for entertainment.
The shorts are ok, but not prime HubNut content. I don’t use any social media, so I’ve not seen you on Instagram or the other ones. It’s the tinkering, reviews and hooning around in tiny (and not so tiny) cars we come here for! Hope you feel better soon Ian.
I know exactly where you were when you took the wrong turn, about 5mins from my house! I've been caught out by that junction before, ended up going north instead of south, and I've lived here 15 years!
I have a music and art channel for a hobby and not many subscribers and not really bothered, I’ve done a few shorts and I got a lot of views but didn’t do anything for views on my regular content, but a channel like yours with more accessible content, I can see it working
I like both. I watch different platforms and even solely on UA-cam I enjoy both your longer ‘tv programme style’ and shorter ‘clip style’ posts. No worries. 🙂
Hi again, it was me in the Dacia sander stepway that said hello in the R high street this afternoon. Love watching your videos, much prefer older cars to new ones. I couldn't believe it when you guys walked past us, was really not expecting that so had to say hi but hope you didn't mind Also love the videos with miss hubnut in and love how you have gone from not wanting a caravan to getting Bob lol
I'm quite happy with one long form a week. I'm even happy with the 5 minute tinkering vids on single issues. But shorts aren't for me else I'd be on tiktok. I kind of feel social media is going down the supermarket route and we'll end up in a situation like coop trying to sell sheds alongside baps. Facebook is horrific for trying to be everything. UA-cam is our telly (as you rightly pointed out) and I'm buggered if I wanna change the channel every minute, Facebook is for keeping tabs on your mates and Twitex is for shouting into the void!! D
When publishing a short you can uncheck the box on the video upload page in Studio on desktop where it says “Publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers”. The video is still visible to everyone but subscribers will not receive a notification. Hope that helps!
I sometimes scroll through the shorts thing when there's not much to watch, but, I find for my brain they're just too short, that and the shorts thing starts doing an ITV and repeats videos after a short while, and then it decides to randomly throw religious stuff at me and then I just nope out of there, cos I've no time for that!!! :P
I watch every single long-format upload, sometimes several times. I never watch shorts as I find them irritating, but no one is forcing me to watch them either :) If they get views and bring new subscribers to the channel then all power to you :)
Sad to say I've turned off notifications from the HubNut channel because there were so many notifications for shorts, which I detest. I manually check for new full-length videos from you now.
All I can say is Get well soon Ian. I would like to suggest some Carly Drives Videos to save your voice. As for the shorts, I look at it as EXTRA Hubnut/Hubnote content. So all good.
@@hubnotes Ah yes good old Insurance companies, legalised robbery. At least highway men wore a mask. I was talking to a young driver who at 17 had passed his test. then got a quote for £587 a month on a Pug 207. And they wonder why people drive without insurance. Maybe an episode on looking at the car insurance industries in the UK V other parts of the world.
Hope you get better and your enjoy your time off 😮😢, ITS your Living incoome.. Just keep growing. THE TECHNOLOGY is not static. Your not static in 2 definition Keep on hubnuting
Nothing wrong with the shorts at all, great way to grow the channel. Tik Tok is great for garnering a younger audience aswell. Always watch your videos whether short or long, they brighten my day if I’ve had a bad one. If the cost of living does indeed come down I would love to support you with a channel membership but the odd merchandise purchase here and there helps pay back for some of the entertainment. So can understand the need to branch out in these trying times hope it goes well. Cheers
A Sat Nav was why a French 44 tonne truck ended up in my Cul-de-Sac going to the farm at the end, told to turn left 50m too early. He should have used a large scale OS map.
Quite right. A bit of experimentation is good. We watch because we enjoy the channel so if it helps develop the channel and makes it even more successful, that can only be good. Hope Ian is fully recovered soon
Quite a few will say they don't like shorts, mainly because of the vertical phone format it seems, however they do work in getting stuff out to new people and for gaining new supporters for sure, my friend went in big on shorts on their rc channel and tripled subscribers in around 3 months from a new channel.
As a "baby boomer" I have an attention span much greater than 2 minutes so I very much enjoy the "long form" entertainment and rarely watch any "shorts" However, I totally understand your reasons for experimenting with "shorts" and sincerely hope they significantly increase channel revenue. Get better soon Ian. Well done Carly for Steering the good ship HubNut while it's "Captain" (you're obviously the "Admiral") is temporarily incapacitated.
I don't really understand what you were saying about shorts "being presented" to us in a different way to the long format. They appear in my feed in exactly the same way as the long format ones. I don't go 'hunting' for the long format ones. Just thought you ought to know. Anyway, it doesn't bother me. Good for you to experiment, it doesn't affect us.
I occasionally watch a few shorts, can see how they work to grow an audience as they've been the way I've discovered a few new channels to watch. Probably less use to existing subscribers, but i can't see the point in being annoyed by them. Life's too short!
Wishing you all the best with your health Ian sounds like you've been under the weather for some time now hope you see some improvement soon. Love the hubnut content from you both but take care of your own wellbeing.
"No" to shorts unless worn during appropriately hot weather! But seriously, YT is pushing a short video format in response to the TikTok zombie malaise. Don't go there Hubnutters! The unconsidered life is not worth living and short format gives zero time for consideration. I suspect shorts appeal to some YTubers as the editorial standard is lower than in most normal YT vids. so they don't need to bother so much. It's a race to the bottom. Brain cells at risk! 🚧🚧🚧
If "Read It" or "Tick Tock" or these "apps", as I believe they're called, bring in more viewers to the channel, then that's excellent. Personally my favourite kind of videos are definitely the road tests
I will hoover up your content in whatever form, shorts are handy for updates + reminders, regular UA-cam postings I make time for whatever the length. I'm used to watching Backshed Mick's 2 hr plus epics.
I hate Satnavs as well! Thank you for the update. I don't mind the minute long clips but not a fan of the shorts at all. I can easily not watch them though as I will always be a fan of you both and it would never turn me against your channel. Hope you made it off the M25 eventually 😊
Do not argue with Mrs GPS. At the moment, anyway. Soon she will be replaced by AI, and then you could end up anywhere. If she were to say "Stay in the middle lane and accelerate to escape velocity" I think you might disregard her instructions.
Who can blame you for putting out a few short videos? UA-cam actively promotes them more vigorously than longer format videos. As a viewer you can decide simply not to watch them if you don't like that particular format. As a creator myself, they do attract considerably more views than my longer format videos and consequently more subs. In fact my most viewed video is a short clip of 2 fairground rides filmed at night, nothing special, took zero effort and got 10k views.😊 My longer format drone video / photography videos might only get a few 100 views but take lots more effort, many hours of filming / editing and cost more in terms of time, fuel and electricity costs. I generally use shorts to promote my longer clips also, definitely helps keep the algorithm happy, especially if you're poorly and taking a break from content creation.
Keep doing all you need to do keep the channel popular and, with a bit of luck, increase your reach and earnings from it. Apologies so far from necessary that I almost unsubscribed! Good luck to you both, all and each.
Personally, as I only watch you tube stuff on my PC, I prefer long format, not too long, about 20 - 30 mins or less is ideal. I have been watching the shorts on you tube but do not like the music on them which for some reason is very loud, I have to find the mute button and watch it again, I am 70 now you know 😉🤣 I am not on tik tok or instagram.
Do like the shorts. If they bring more people in too subscribe, even better. Hope you’re back to full strength soon Ian. Thanks for the insight . Haven’t upset me
I do not mind the shorts, mix things up now and again, I may not comment on all the shorts but will give them a like. I Tend to use my shorts to complain about potholes 😂😂 or in the case of yesterday a train chilling. 😂😂
I'm not a great fan of shorts but it's a case of any Hub nut is better than nothing. The tinkering is still king. I guess the figures will give you the answer.
Do hope Ians chest infection buggers off ASAP. Have you thought about following Hollywood film trailers and doing an 'upcoming highlights' short for each long format? I'm also sure Carly could do a very good job of a contemporary VO with Ian doing the driving for the short term illness period.

Absolutely brilliant video Ian miss hubnut ❤👍I like the short vids there brilliant especially for me as I like it when you both upload always brilliant content brilliant
Hate shorts. So now, never watch them. Its not what I go to UA-cam for. Fair play to you trying them, though, and hope you get well soon.
"Shut up!" ought to be a built-in voice command in all cars with any sort of voice feature.
I'm not a fan of UA-cam shorts personally, but I'd rather watch you guys shorts than a lot of the stuff that's on there. Bugger and there was me thinking I was original 👍 love that.
I'm personally not a fan of short videos, but can understand that it could help the channel grow. Good luck, I hope it pays off
Ian & Carly, I don't mind what you put out short or long, I just appreciate all the effort you both put in xx

Good idea guys.
I’ve recently been trying shorts too, sometimes they get more views for me than an actual longer UA-cam video!
Don't mind shorts. It's all the notifications from them I don't like. But you guys have to do what you have to do.
The better you do, the more we get to watch, wishing you every success in every format.

Suprised it took you so long TBH. The video you mentioned was very interesting I watched it awhile ago. They added phenomenal subs doing shorts 👍

It's always good to try something different. Especially if it gives your throat/chest a chance to recover.
I’ve been enjoying seeing fresh HubNut stuff in my IG feed.
Personally, I prefer the longer videos, but I understand what you are trying. Hope you get better soon.
I love all your video’s and the shorts ! Allways 👍🏻👍🏻🆙 ! And when it’s not so my thing, even then 👍🏻👍🏻🆙 for the effort! So like always 👍🏻👍🏻🆙 😂😂😂
Never apologise for more / additional HubNut content! All welcome!
DON'T FORGET, if you've got a main video out, let the shorts guide viewers to the main video 👍
Yeah, I agree the shorts causing notifications are a tad frustrating. But you do you. 😊

Nothing wrong with testing the mysterious Al Gorithm.
When publishing a short you can uncheck the box on the video upload page in Studio on desktop where it says “Publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers”. The video is still visible to everyone but subscribers will not receive a notification. Hope that helps!
Ah. We always upload from mobile and rarely use the desktop app these days. Will see if we can find that option.
If you find a minute too short, just watch it again and again. You can never have enough HubNut!
At 3.28 the phrase "we pay attention" and the from 4.25 all of that out of the window....😂 oh, I so love all you are doing....❤
Your shorts are fun and only complement the long form content as far as I'm concerned. Especially when they give a little sneak peek preview 😀
You really shouldn't have to apologise to ANYONE. I enjoyed all formats of your content, so keep it up!
I find shorts annoying and mostly ignore them.
I watch every single long-format upload, sometimes several times. I never watch shorts as I find them irritating, but no one is forcing me to watch them either :) If they get views and bring new subscribers to the channel then all power to you :)
