I'm thinking about buying used hard drives for cheap and using these enclosures, but I do wonder about how long they'll last? And do they get super hot? And what about write speeds?
The temperature is not a problem, the read and write speeds are going to be limited by your disc rather than the interface because USB 3.1 or 3.2 Gen 1 is limited to 5 gigabits per second which is good for any SATA SSD or hard drive. If you want more speeds and are dealing with NVME discs then you will need USB 3.2 gen. 2. 10 gigabit connection for up to 1 GBPS of copy and paste speeds
WOW great job, I think you just saved me a visit from the geek squad. Question? recent purchase of a new DELL. I have the WD discovery disk, but It will not open my quicken program to place a short cut on the desk top. Seems every thing is transferred on the data, but NOT the programs. So,,,if I do you internal to external drive, and plug in the external. Will the desk top on the converted external drive show up as the old desk top? So I could see the short cut to quicken program.?
please check disk utility to see if the hard drive shows up as blue. if it shows black then right click and select new simple volume and follow through the process and it will start working normally.
Can it connect to the blu ray player? because I always download MP4 movies online and put inside flash drives but this time I want to use an internal hard drive
Bro I had an issue after sharing a large file to my hdd suddenly it stopped recognising I’ve restarted my computer again I checked it but when I connected my computer is hanging it started running slowly pls help help me with it
actually this model dont have external power supply the power given by USB is not sufficient may be its also issue dont repeat if you dont have external power supply there is another model not the one he shown in the video
hey so i have an hdd but it has os installed on it when i do same procedure and plug in laptop will my hdd os bootup or laptop ssd bootup? If laptop so will i be able to see hdd in files?
@@0x75a9 hey so i tried itt myself so its just normally shows your all hdd drives you can delete ,format ,use or anything if u boot from ssd . Even u can switch to hdd by bootable menu and use the os but i didnt tried this as i wanted to use it as external only.

Internal HDDs converted are external are more reliable. The externals being sold often have faulty internals inside

You can go to disk management and erase the whole disk to create a single partition that can be used as an external drive
